It’s been nine years since Tom Holkenborg last released under his Junkie XL alias. In those years, Holkenborg has become one of Hollywood’s pre-eminent film composers, working on projects like Zack Snyder’s Justice League, Mad Max: Fury Road, Deadpool and Alita: Battle Angel, collaborating with directors like Robert Rodriguez, James Cameron, Zack Snyder, George Miller, Tim Miller and Peter Jackson.

While working on the Netflix series White Lines set in Ibiza, Tom was inspired to revisit his dance music past. He wrote a series of tracks that he sent to old friend Sasha for feedback, and after playing the tracks out, Sasha asked to release them on his label.

“These tracks were something fun and personal for me, a chance to stretch my dancefloor muscles again, after recalling so many of my Ibiza memories during White Lines,” said Holkenborg. “They are quite different from the classic Junkie XL sound, and I never had any intention of releasing them, but when Sasha asked me too, I couldn’t say no.”

Holkenborg has a long association with Sasha from early in his Junkie XL career, helping to produce Sasha’s 2002 acclaimed debut album airdrawndagger and then later collaborating to release the seminal progressive track Breezer. Sasha was an early champion of Junkie XL in the dance scene adding Future In Computerhell Part II to his Global Underground Ibiza compilation.

As Junkie XL, Holkenborg released six albums, and toured as a live act between 1995 and 2014. A key figure in the Dutch rave scene he headlined major dance festivals and clubs across the globe. Junkie XL collaborated with artists ranging from Gary Numan, Chuck D, Dave Gahan, Robert Smith, Madonna and many others, and famously topped charts around the world with his remix of Elvis Presley’s ‘A Little Less Conversation’.

Sharing Sasha’s highly anticipated rework of Photek’s seminal cut ‘Aviator’. This track has been catching attention and accruing never ending track ID/release requests ever since Sasha dropped it in his Beatport ReConnect live stream at the start of lockdown. It’s now finally out, marking the start of an exciting new project from Sasha and Last Night On Earth..

Re-interpreting the theme from Photek’s 2011 Aviator EP kicks off the TEN project in a powerful way. The immense synth chords and tight drums make this rework a hypnotic builder with Sasha’s stamp undoubtedly present. This 10 minute odyssey transforms the original into a track ready for the club.

Kevin Di Serna imbues his music with a soul-soothing emotion. His melodically adventurous grooves have appeared on labels such as Innervisions, Watergate, and All Day I Dream, and have made him one of the contemporary progressive scene's finest architects. Fellow Argentinian Santor is a new school artist making just as many waves, not least with the ‘Blessway EP’ he released with Di Serna here back in November 2024.

Opener 'On Me' is a sun-kissed, Ibiza-ready prog sound with a hooky and pitched-up vocal and glistening keys. The ever-rising swell of emotion will lift dancers oﬀ their feet before the darker bass and crisp breaks kick in for maximum reactions. The Dub Mix strips away the vocal and gives more weight to the elastic bass and zippy synth work.

The fantastic 'Silence' is another vocal gem, this time featuring two vocals - a smoky male and a filtered cyborg - stitched into the mix alongside vamping chords and glistening arps that bring a celebratory energy. It's a fresh future sound that tugs at the heart.

'Come On' has a more introspective feel that’s just as widescreen and expansive, but with melancholic chords and pads that prompt reflection, which is heightened by tender vocals.

LNOE 126 takes a deep dive into Shadow Child’s ‘Polymod’ alias, alongside a very rewarding collaboration with Sasha on the title track ‘Full Circle’. The result is astonishing! Listening to the sounds certainly makes you feel the chemistry between these producers in the shaping of this sonic landscape. 

Polymod showcases a fresh take on raw drumbeats and deep synthesizer lines on this EP. On the title track ‘Full Circle’ Polymod and Sasha collaborated, resulting in a colourful uplifting track which is guaranteed to make you smile.

We asked Polymod how these tracks came to be; - “I made the tracks pretty quickly during lockdown, whilst jamming with my 808 and some granular synths. I love combining the grittiness of the drum production with atmospheric pads and arpeggios.. you can tap into so many vibes and feelings. ‘Full Circle’ was an unfinished idea though, and I’m stoked Sasha wanted to finish that one together”. 

This EP will include the collaboration along with three original Polymod tracks. This collection of tracks complements each other in every way. The full release will be out on October 2nd.

Sasha & Polymod - Full Circle

LNOE is closing off the year with another collaboration from Sasha, this time alongside rising star Franky Wah. This release gives a taste of the musical ties between the two and paints a unique picture across the 4-track EP. Franky Wah has been making a name for himself releasing on labels such as Afterlife and Ministry Of Sound amongst others.

‘Haunted’ the title track shows instantly that the combination of these two artists is certainly not a gimmick and sets the tone for the release. Franky commenting on their collaboration says: "Sasha has played a huge part in putting me on the map by supporting my music, so it’s an honour to be able to collaborate on this project with an artist that I’ve always looked up to. This EP is a perfect amalgamation of both of our sounds and I’m really proud to get this one out.”

The raw break-beats drum sounds which we all know and love, paired with modern melodic synthesizer work and dreamy vocals make up the recipe for this standout record. The sonic character oscillates between these energetic grooves and dreamlike states. The release will feature four original collabs, all defining another perspective on the sound between Sasha and Franky.
