Commissioned by Musica Electronica Nova Festival Wrocław for NeoQuartet, co-financed by Polish Ministry of Culture

My second string quartet is animated by the wish to articulate a more intimate politics around queer distress and desires. The text, written by Jamie Shi, responds to and cares for the gifts and contributions by Wojtek Blecharz, Nico Navarro Rueda, Stellan Veloce and Weronika Wro Wrzesińska. The video is a kind of dialogic overdub that paces this immersive sound ritual, taking its cues from the late Barbara Hammer.

sometimes they hit right away, other times they linger in the back of ur head, slowly emerging. this is also how Mifu’s Signature Narration is functioning. while smashing up collage typhoons, Daniele is never using fast travel - it’s a music full of Eerie Spaces, Ancient Stories and stretched in time sentiments.

‘I love MUSIC’ is made of care and gentle touches. that’s why it was kinda impossible for me not to develop some kind of intimate relationship with The Album during the past few months of The Album development.

Long toiling at the most guttural of industrial-noise-hyperglitch hybridicity, when Liège’s @romanowitch unveiled a critical season substitute on glitch.cool this March, it represented the re-emergence of a fragmentary magician now adept with a music exclusively his own. This was an astonishing record excavating a sonic world original because it occupied no territory delimitable beyond the hands of its conductor.

Romanowitch’s music is one of the screeching soul of material. The squalls of cinder, bawlings of a foundry, the timescale of spark and friction and something embrously angered. Songs of soot and scraping - their mediating, generative sludge matched equally by the extemporaneous mode of composition. The relationship between the industrial and the computational is focalized, with this focus rendering overlaps between the codified and automotive comprehensible. Between bits and matter is a world of beings always escaping aestheticization yet always revelatory of activity. In Romanowitch’s music is a legion of constructive objects all conscious enough to escape reduction. A society of subordinate states whose slipperiness permits the listener to intimate a world of things particularly alive. A particularity that adumbrates a universal indeterminacy.  

His Realist mix follows the same track as ACSS. Murmurs of the human here intrude, as debodied yawns and moans, and in Daveed Diggs’ bookending vocals - never first-person, always contradictorily total, descriptive of the disappeared to the horror of night. Talk of bloody incidents so indecipherable as to be cosmic. There are shards of genericity, but no break nor pulsation nor hiss ever feels without the presence of something either monstrous or angelic, like Romanowitch saw heaven and hell in the energetic agentiality of every sound to emerge from a silent thing.

@haiori is a Hungarian sound designer and producer. Straddling ambient, deconstructivist IDM, and a devout though iconoclastic reworking of styles from across the dance music continuum, Haiori’s work, composed of singles and releases on comps such as 111records’ sync2, evinces a rare artist able to occupy the possibility-space of one field while ingurgitating, saluting and remodelling a wider spectrum of club sounds.

Haiori’s Realist mix exemplifies this faithful yet interrogative style. Wobbly DnB tunes peppered with the creakings of glitch, tracks like tearout trap beats spoken out a disk drive’s turbulent emotions, hadopelagic rollers, glitch-hop recontextualised as not the subversion of pattern alone but the evocation of something feelingly palpable in Haiori’s  blend of subsurface, computational liveliness and tangible naturality. Variations on a recent theme, what perhaps defines this mix. The simultaneity of the fervency of computational, sonic disruption... sub-bass frequencies scrambled and implacable enough to signify encoded souls aside an astounding fidelity of earthliness - of the voice’s salvific oneness or the inborne sonorities of the chimes of wind and reverberative material. A series of momentum, a constancy to the structures of dance, renewed repeatedly by Haiori’s musical steadfastness. A steadfastness which translates not obedience but the seeing of every form as ripe for sincere revision.
