OLD DJ BIO 
LayD Hilton (My DJ name) is no stranger to the club industry... In the early 90s she got her first taste of house, watching it’s evolution from the dance floors of Brighton, London and beyond... Armed with years of experience being on the other side of the decks, Sonya moved to inside the DJ booth about four years ago. Her knowledge of house, charismatic personality and musical background combined to ensure the transition was very quick. In 2008 she was placed in the top 5 female DJs at Brighton’s prestigious Golden Handbag awards and her fan base is growing by the day. She’s a crowd pleaser… not a DJ pleaser and will be wowing the crowds on from behind the decks so as long as she sees people dancing waving their hands in the air with smiles on their faces then she’s a happy LayD.

End of 2008 LayD Hilton went forward and made her 1st ever track. The Divine Icons knowing her knowledge of music too their original track to her and asked her to do a club remix so she did... you can hear this on her myspace page.

When I was 22, I had what you would call a toxic relationship with music.

I’d just finished four years studying piano at college, and I just didn’t want to do music anymore. All the pressure and the competition gave me really bad stage fright, to the point where my hands literally felt shaky whenever I played.

After that I was basically playing a lot of function gigs where I knew no-one would be listening if I messed up.

Then, lockdown came, and I was sitting at home, on my phone, and I found a songwriting camp on zoom. I’d always wanted to write a song, but it just felt too scary and way too personal.

But I joined the camp and couldn’t write anything on the first day (I nearly quit). Next day… I managed to write a song, and I played it to the group, (shaky hands going).. and they actually liked it. In fact, someone said it sounded like a classic. And it was that comment that made me realise I was meant to write songs.

My mentor on that course, Chris Difford, really encouraged me and connected me with some of my songwriting heroes like Beth Nielsen Chapman. We wrote a song together and you'll find it on my spotify :)

Today, I drive around in my Honda Jazz playing shows, I’ve released two albums, and I’ve met so many new people. I still get stage fright but I’m learning how to deal with it.

Because when I play my songs to people I know all the fear and anxiety was just in my head. And now I’m a much happier person.
