Regarded as the father of contemporary haiku, Masaoka Shiki was a poet and literary critic during the Meiji period Japan.

He advocated realistic observation by “sketching” (shasei) poems and going out into nature with notebooks, thus abandoning the traditional subjects of haiku of the time. His advice for an aspiring poet was, “Use both imaginary pictures and real ones, but prefer the real ones.”

555 Atari Punk & Creep Cluster (disquiet0555)

A short (for me!) piece of layered improvisation using Novation BassStation, Summit, Nord Piano, and Viscount Legend and lots of echoes and reverbs to create a drifting bed to drift off to.  I fall asleep at the drop of a hat, so this is definitely long enough for me, but your mileage may vary ;-)

A Little Night Music (Disquet0562)

Taking Satie's use of short repetitions, I went outdoors, in the London rain, to the bar close by where I live. There is an indoors dressing table with plants growing out of it on the street (pictured) and I recorded 20 second clips tapping and wiping the rain off the surfaces. I then cut these into shorter clips and repeated to make a rhythm, and took a tiny clip and stretched it out long so as the overtones are foregrounded.
