The music represented here is an example of some of the original compositions that I wrote over a decade ago in MIDI format. Similar to my Enhanced Game MIDIs, these works use general MIDI samples from my Yamaha Motif ES8 workstation keyboard. Although they were polished for presentation with expression and mixing tweaks, these songs overall maintain the Super Nintendo-inspired composition style that I produced years ago.

This gloomy song is one of a few different area themes that I wrote for Azhavela, a cancelled game that was being developed by Mark Jordan and a few others from RPGamer.  Azhavela was inspired by a text-based, fantasy adventure MUD (Multi-User Dungeon) on IRC by the name of Zhai'helleva, meaning "Wind to Thy Wings" in the Tayledras language of the Valdemar Saga novels.

You would hear this music in Martar Tower: an abandoned stronghold with a morbid history on the rainy, tropical continent of Malone. Inspired by classic Square RPG dungeon themes, such as "Fate in Haze" from Final Fantasy V, I included a lot of legato notes and mild dissonance.  The original MIDI from 1998 had a recorder instrument serving as the melody throughout the entire piece, but the way the composition was structured, it really called for instrument changes.

Despite how it may seem, the public release of this macabre composition finally being released close to Hallowe'en is pure coincidence!

'Ukulele Makemake (OO-koo-leh-leh MAH-keh-MAH-keh) is Hawaiian for "Ukulele Wish", signifying the desire of the sound of the ukulele.  I saw it as a fitting name, considering that I wanted to find a decent ukulele sample for a while now.  With my new keyboard, the Roland FA-06, I discovered that one of the nylon guitar patches sounded much like an ukulele when strumming at higher pitches.

That became the basis for this originally unplanned song.  After adding semi-traditional Hawaiian elements, such as the pedal steel guitar to accompany the ever-present ukulele, I added an atmospheric flute for a melody.  A bit of jazz-blues playing on piano and a shuffle-styled percussion line helped complete the piece.  Enjoy!

Summer (Harvest Moon Back to Nature) [2 guitars]

My Enhanced Nintendo MIDI collection consists of MIDI files I sequenced and routed through my Yamaha Motif ES8 keyboard, utilising its rather nice-sounding General MIDI samples. The staff view was played with Cakewalk Express and the presentation was recorded with CamStudio. All instruments use the standard MIDI patches unless otherwise noted. To follow the notes in the sequence and to ensure the best sound quality, viewing full screen in 720p (HD) is strongly advised.

In 2006, I was assigned as a music composer for a project titled "Zelda II Enhanced," a dream to recreate Zelda II with 16-bit graphics and custom features.  The town theme was the first I aimed to enhance as a MIDI, and with some playing around on the keyboard, a crude bossa nova surfaced.  The team and I discussed the direction, and we figured it would work for a specific town, namely the Harbour Town of Mido, which is directly by the sea that separates two major landmasses in Hyrule.  I continued with the project a bit with the seaside settlement in mind.  The project since came to a halt, but I just couldn't let this soothing remix go to waste.

While Mido partially inspired this remix, it is also quite possible that the online golf game, PangYa, may have also influenced the arrangement.  Aside from the bossa nova and rumba/rhumba flavours presented here, other calmly tropical genres may feature in the final product.  The full remix will come at a later date, so for now, please enjoy this preview of my work in progress (WIP).  Look out for a possible name change, too, such as "Coast of Mido" or another beach-inspired title.

This is my 30th record release for WarioWare D.I.Y. on the Nintendo DS. The Record Maker interface is limited, so not all song data can be accurate. Please keep this in mind when rating or commenting. This, like all of my records, is free to import. For my 30th WarioWare D.I.Y. record, I wanted to arrange something truly substantial.  I've done remixed chiptunes before, and even some medleys.  But what about a remixed medley mash-up of various Nintendo series?  The mash-up concept of two familiar melodies played together became the gimmick for this special record.  What better way to celebrate the memories of the music from past first- and second-party Nintendo games?

In this chiptune, you'll discover at least two songs from each featured series being played simultaneously.  That's 23 songs spanning across ten different Nintendo game series.  Songs from the oldest games of each series are panned to the right, while songs from a succeeding generation are panned to the left. Not every classic Nintendo series is represented here, but hopefully the songs featured in this record salute most of the series which made impact throughout the years.

This record marks the final systematic entry to my WarioWare D.I.Y. Records series.  Future entries may be released as special uploads.  I hope you all enjoyed the records!
