Leah Beeferman works with landscape through digital image-making, photography, video, text and sound. Her work explores the relationships between observation and abstraction, natural and digital, physical and experiential. She has had solo exhibitions at Rawson Projects, New York and Sorbus, Helsinki. Recent two-person or group exhibitions include Fiskars Village Biennial, Finland; Sirius Arts Centre, Ireland; Klaus von Nichtssagend, New York; The Anderson, Richmond; Galaria Nara Roesler, São Paolo; Studio 17, Stavanger; Bass & Reiner, San Francisco; and Fridman Gallery, New York.

Beeferman has participated in many residencies, including LMCC Workspace, New York; The Arctic Circle, Svalbard; Mustarinda, Finland; Digital Painting Atelier, OCAD, Toronto; and Sirius, Ireland. Her work has been discussed in publications including BOMB, Objektiv, Temporary Art Review, Art in Print, Taupe Magazine and ArtPulse. In 2016 she published an artist book, Triple Point, with Lodret Vandret Copenhagen. She received an MFA from Virginia Commonwealth University (2010) and a BA from Brown University (2004) and was the recipient of a Fulbright Scholar Grant to Finland (2016–17). Beeferman is now based in Providence, where she is an adjunct lecturer at Brown University and a critic at RISD.

Now one of dance music’s most respected DJs, Avalon Emerson first made a name for herself in the storied warehouse scene of her birthplace, San Francisco, before relocating to Berlin in 2013. Over a decade of performances at the famed Berghain led to appearances at numerous festivals around the world which all cemented Emerson, and her evocative, genre- and decade-spanning sets, as perennially in demand. 

In 2020, she released her first full-length collection: a contribution to the longrunning DJ-Kicks series (which Resident Advisor described as “The sound of a well-honed DJ at the top of her game.”), nestled alongside a steady stream of remix releases for the likes of Four Tet, Slowdive, Robyn and more.

Next up was 2023’s Avalon Emerson & The Charm, an instant classic which saw Emerson exploring her singing voice and more traditional songwriting outside of the boundaries of her dance music work.  Created after a move to New York, the resulting & The Charm album was released to critical acclaim, landing on numerous critics’ best-of-the-year lists.

The stage is now set, then, for her to carve out a wholly unique path, and with the help of new label home and indie giant, Dead Oceans, Emerson is poised to connect her various musical endeavors to create an untouchably rich output of material. First up is Perpetual Emotion Machine, consisting of songs created for her DJ sets, delivered via a living, evolving project and announced ahead of her worldwide tour.

The living world is vast, vibrant and full of voices. Birds and forests, oceans and insects, winds, pulses, textures and silences. Everything that breathes carries a rhythm, a presence, a story.

Echo of Species offers a space where artists respond to the natural world through sonic resonance. Each piece takes its own shape: a mix, a composition, or something in between, blending music, voices and field recordings. The result can be poetic, melodic, raw or abstract, always guided by deep listening.

Artists take turns. Like a relay, each one passes the baton to the next, creating a shared act of attention and transmission. It is an invitation to slow down and tune in, to celebrate what still rustles, sings, vibrates or fades, and to remain attuned to the fragile chorus that surrounds us.
