“ 'Moments intérieurs I - Parois | Crevasse' is inspired by the physical sensation carved inside a body -  a feeling of particular loneliness or nostalgia. Without necessarily musically impersonating an actual texture of an internal wall, I built this piece as a sort of painting covered of dominating gray lines, sometimes surrounded by white strokes. If gray tones often tend to be associated with a certain type of sadness, in this work, they rather guided me in the creation of thick lines inspired of the softness contained in nostalgia. As sounds evolve, the main motif develops itself like a filament becoming an overflow. It then quickly evaporates to create singular interior landscapes and crevasses. 'Moments intérieurs I - Parois | Crevasse' brings this disturbed tranquility that is common to all of us during those short moments of distress.”

La mémoire.

Les idées qui s’entremêlent, se fractionnent.

Avec le temps, les oublis deviennent plus fréquents.
On se répète.
La confusion devient chose courante, les souvenirs se distordent.
On se répète.
Ça devient hors de contrôle, enrageant.
Et ce n’est que dans les rares moments de lucidité qu’on se rend compte de ce qui se passe. 

Mais les ravages ne disparaissent jamais.

Dementia est une représentation musicale de l’évolution de la maladie d’Alzheimer. La dégradation, l’incohérence et les tensions sonores se font de plus en plus importantes au cours de la pièce, suivant les différents stades de la maladie.

Éclats | Noir is part of a cycle of acousmatic pieces that explore the timbre and creative possibilities given by acoustic musical instruments. In this Éclats, cello recordings are the main sound material along with the sounds of a Doepfer modular synthesizer and outdoor soundscapes of the Brussels region. These three sound protagonists enter into a dialogue of opposition, fusion and metamorphosis. This piece traces a path through different sound matter in mutation where each become, in turn, the main character. This work was made in the studios of Musiques et Recherches.

Éclats | Noir fait partie d'un cycle de pièces acousmatiques qui explore le timbre et les possibilités créatives offertes par les instruments de musique acoustiques. Dans cet Éclats, les enregistrements de violoncelle sont le matériau sonore principal. S'y ajoute des sons d'un synthétiseur modulaire Doepfer et des prises de son naturalistes de la région Bruxelloise. Ces trois protagonistes sonores entrent en dialogue d'opposition, de fusion et de métamorphose. Cette pièce trace un chemin au travers différentes matières en mutation qui deviennent chacune, à tour de rôle, le personnage principal. Cette œuvre a été réalisée dans les studios de Musiques et Recherches.

Podcast From HELL – HYBRID #3

Pierre-Luc Lecours is a composer and multidisciplinary artist based in Montreal (Canada). His artistic practice covers many different mediums and aesthetics, ranging from music to video and performance. His work is characterized by a search for expressiveness in projects exploring themes related to nature, social phenomena and politics. He draws influences as much from the currents of instrumental and electroacoustic contemporary music as from electronic and experimental music. His performances feature everyday objects combined with traditional instrumentation and annotated musical writing.

After a bachelor’s degree in digital music, Lecours is a candidate for the Master’s in composition at the Faculty of Music of the University of Montreal under the supervision of Pierre Michaud. As a researcher, he is interested in the interpretation of electronic music, gesture and time management in musical composition. He received a graduate scholarship from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (CRSH), the Arsène David Scholarship and the OICRM Master’s Scholarship.

He has received music commissions for film, theater, dance and television. His work has been heard, among others, at the Montreal International Documentary Encounters (RIDM), the Chicago Film Festival, Radio-Canada, Hot Docs and Radio France. His album Paysages Imaginaires will be published in February 2019 under the label Mikroclimat of DAME (CA).

His works have been honored by Exhibitronic 2017, the Composition Contest of the Destellos Foundation 2014, the Young Composers Competition of the SOCAN Foundation 2014 and Time play of CEC 2014 and 2017. His work has been featured in more than 100 international events, including MUTEK (CA), Elektra (CA), Vision of future (US), Futura (FR), Digital Weekender (UK), Sound Space (BE), Seeing Sound (UK), NEXT (SK), BIAN (CA), Akousma (CA), Currents New Media (USA), Muslab (MEX) and Resonances Électriques (FR).
