I'm happy to share the audio recording pulled from my live video stream at the Mixmag Lab, NYC (my new home!) My track selections for this one were intended toe the line somewhere between a club gig and a headphones listening mix since there were 100 people on the dance floor but 1000's of people listening at home. These Mixmag Labs tend to reach a wide audience of dance music enthusiasts around the world, so I also made a point to try and showcase a little range of what I'm playing these days. Roy Rosenfeld is DJ/producer who is part of a long line of esteemed artists to hail from Israel. He started his career playing in small bars before working his way up to bigger dance clubs, and outdoor festivals around his home country.  These days, with bookings from all around the world, Roy can truly call himself a global citizen... This is in no doubt due to his beautiful and emotive sounds, which has seen him sign with a wide variety of record labels including All Day I Dream, Lost & Found, and Systematic. And, who can forget one of 2015’s greatest anthems, ’Epika’, a co-production with Guy Mantzur released on the highly regarded German label Kompakt.
You will also find his productions from those labels, alongside artists like Lee Burridge, Khen, and Sebastien Leger on this Balance Selections mix.

Balance Selections 093: Roy Rosenfeld

I’m happy to release my recording from Sandbox Festival in Hurghada Egypt. I always love playing the Middle East. The sights, sounds, tastes, and smells are very different than my home, all of which represent one of my favorite aspects of DJing: getting enjoy the world’s diversity. Beyond that, I’ve found that the people of the region are an incredibly friendly and passionate bunch, so playing a festival that attracts the heads from many across the region was special for me.

The Sandbox mainstage was a big one - these stages are sometimes tricky for me as I feel pressured to go for the jugular and bang out a medley of big drops for those hands in the air moments, but I resisted the pressure and went instead for undulation between the deep moments building to the big ones while maintaining a steady groove through. Hope that idea came through, hope you enjoy the set, and can’t wait to make my way back to the Middle East!

Lee Burridge - DISTRIKT - Burning Man 2019

It’s been a while since I played DISTRIKT last. After this years experience I’m somewhat kicking myself. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a crowd at Burning Man so wild and fun. The party was electric. Fire! And, it was only Tuesday. ‘Pacing it’ was obviously out of the question for the five thousand or so that joined me. The Robot Heart bus rolled up and plugged in. Hoj tore the place up before me. Our day party extended into night and most of us left with a smile on our faces and an electricity that carried us forward. Beautiful people swung above the crowd in a birdcage (is that safe I kept asking myself in my head)and hips wiggled and swung while the multi-level dance floor bumped and bounced. Basically, best day party at Burning Man ever ever. So, thank you DISTRIKT for giving me an extended set and an amazing party to play. Let’s do it again next year. It’s a date?
