May 2014 introduces Jeff Craven to the Tahanan family. 

Very few people can make a claim to success like Jeff Craven. As DJ and Label Owner, he has left an indelible mark on the world of Dance Music. His format and business model for the great Large Music has been copied many times over, a fact that Jeff wryly considers to be "the highest form of flattery."


Jeff Craven began spinning records in the summer of 1988 while a student in St. Louis Missouri. His format then was always eclectic, playing alternative records from bands like Front 242 and Nitzer Ebb with the occasional House record thrown into the mix. Jeff's love of Chicago House eventually took over, however, and he moved to Chicago in 1990.

While making the rounds as a DJ in Chicago clubs during the early 90’s, Jeff found that many Chicago House music artists were struggling to have their music heard. Jeff started his own record label, Large, to feature this fresh crop of Chicago talent. With an artist roster including such luminaries as DJ Sneak, Roy Davis Jr., and DJ Rasoul, Large Music soon became the most prominent and influential House music label in the universe. 

Large Music’s shining rise to commercial success came in the fall of 1998 when Roy Davis Jr.’s hit single “Gabriel” hit the UK Pop Top 20. A slew of hits followed after that from Kerri Chandler, Miguel Migs, and newcomer Dennis Ferrer. Throughout this period, Jeff maintained a street level credibility with Large, releasing classic records that continued to push the underground sensibility of House Music. 

As a DJ, Jeff has played all over the world including Germany, Canada, France, England and Sweden. He was the opening DJ for jazz legend Herbie Hancock in Stockholm, and has played alongside Blue Note recording artist St. Germain at the Moulin Rouge in Paris. He has also appeared in almost every major club in Chicago including Smart Bar, Red Dog, Zentra, Spy Bar, Big Wig and Lava Lounge. Jeff has appeared on numerous radio programs including London’s infamous Kiss FM, Radio FG in Paris, and Chicago’s very own Q101. His DJ style has been described as “soulful” and “jazzy” with a slight influence of techno.

Here's a 5+ hour set from a beautiful night in Vancouver with the Soul Hop crew.  The soundsystem at Vantek was singing, the crowd were getting down and it was one of those nights where 5 hours felt like 1 hour. For this mix we wanted to do something different. We have been seeing quite a few posts mentioning these tracks and artists, so decided to host our own tribute to the amazing SIESTA Music. In the early 2000's I was almost fanatical about the 'west coast sound'. H-Foundation were residents at London's Fabric and it felt like a great time for House Music here in the UK.
Now 25 years on, I wanted to re-visit my love for this label. I pulled all of the releases from my record collection and put a select few at random together into this hour long mix.

Jonna has been playing music with soul for the past 20 years, from the City Fly basement parties @ Sophbeck (RIP) in his hometown of Leicester, to the festival circuit in Croatia to the dark underground clubs of Berlin and as far as Tokyo. He has also supported the likes of Roy Ayres (RIP), Children of Zeus, Benji B, Underground Resistance & MCDE to name a few! 

Jonna has released notable music on Lumberjacks in Hell, BBE, Shadeleaf Music, Flat White Records and his own imprint City Fly Records which has gained support from the likes of BBC 6 Music, Mr Scruff, Jimpster and Derrick Carter. His last release 'Jus Move' featuring Javonntte with Marcellus Pittman & SoulPhiction (RIP) Remixes was featured in Juno Records Top 10 'Best Deep House Records’ of the year and was ‘Release Of The Day’ on Resident Advisor.

Recently, Jonna has been concentrating on his music promo service ‘Unveil PR’ and starting a family but is still an avid record collector and selector spanning many genres of the musical spectrum.

Lee Clarke is a house freak from Milton Keynes. Lee got bit by the dj bug at the tender age of 15 and hasn't looked back.

Lee has been known to have a unique style which ranges from deep house to techno, this comes from his many influences over the years such as Mark Farina, Asad Rizvi (now Silverlining), Derrick Carter, Eddie Richards, Stacey Pullen, Terry Francis, Jimpster, Phil Weeks and DJ Heather. In 2008 Lee became a regular on Chicago House FM with his show Tahanan. The show lead to many gigs and making new friends which motivated Lee to start a promotion of the same name, which he used to reflect his personality and beliefs, Good People, Great Music. The party started in his home town Milton Keynes and has had Eddie Richards and Terry Francis play on a regular basis as well as guests such as Jordan Peak, Pete Dafeet, Roberto, Sek, Michael McLardy and Dudley Strangeways. 
After setting up Tahanan, Lee has had a hand in production. After spending years looking at the studio and not having a clue what to do with it, Dudley Strangeways reached out to Lee and taught him how it was done. This lead to the two forming a great friendship and making tracks together, with an ep on the Chicago based label Large Music.
