The Leftside Lounge part 2

Using the same ancient Mayan technology that accurately predicted the end of the world in 2012, we figured out what the world's number one New Year's resolution would be back in October.  It was, hands down to "Make love and watch the sunrise". After discovering this, we set out to make a track that would encourage people to make love and watch the sunrise. This is the fruit of our labors; with it's slowly rising synths and the undercurrent bassline, it is a persuasive house essay written with an abandoned record and a Roland JX8P.

We've been big fans of Leftside Wobble's 'Acid Soul' series, so we are delighted to have him put together a mix for us. Here are some words from him regarding his mix for us:

"Leftside Classics is a retrospective featuring some of the tracks that have meant the most to me over the last five years or so. These are the tracks that somehow always find a way back into my sets, tracks that rise above the transient and tracks that defy limiting genre pigeonholes. My sets have always been about joining the dots, celebrating the eclectic and supporting those tracks that exist in the rich hinterland between dub, funk, disco and house. Hopefully this retrospective captures that overriding ethos.

I've included a small selection of unreleased LW bits and a few exclusive versions of well known staples to keep things pushing forward too.

this is part 11 in a series of mixes called 'trust me i was there' - the tracks that were big in the clubs i was going to and the london pirates i was listening to at the time.

in 91 the music was morphing from the previous housier/US sound to a more UK vibe, with baselines and breakbeats shaping the sound. as a punter/dj back then, I had really liked the earlier music in these mixes, but from this point I felt like i was part of a scene that was largely people like me, in areas like where i lived - i was well and truly hooked!

This is probably my favourite of the Acid Soul series so far. Featuring a selection of deep, dirty groovers from recent months, with a smattering of classics for good measure too. Thanks must go out to the fine folks of the DJ History forum for prompting me to dig out Maurice Fulton's mix of Alice Smith - forgot just how good that record is.

Over the last couple of years a number of producers have emerged that have captured the spirit of that original Chicago House sound from back in the day; a time when house music wore it's disco influences firmly on it's sleeve. Producers such as Neville Watson, Kink, Hard Ton, Snuff Crew &amp; Shiny Objekts (to name a few) manage to create music that's deep and raw yet still oozes funk and soul.

The 'Acid Soul' series of mixes celebrate this sound and this latest instalment features a bunch of stuff I've been playing in my peak time sets in recent months (including the Carnival after party a few weeks back). It wouldn't be a Leftside Wobble set though without a smattering of edits too, and this features some killer versions of Marvin Gaye and Steve Winwood classics as well as my own recent spin on 'Could Heaven Ever Be Like This'.
