Kan Sano's original cover version is so good (as you can hear from the snippet here) I decided to take this in a different direction and provide a Drum & Bass treatment as it seemed so suited to the source material. 

Other remixes on the package come from Late Night Tuff Guy (who provides a treatment closer to the original) and two deep house reworks of 'Music Overflow' (the flip side from the original 7" that was released earlier this year for Record Store Day).

The Leftside Lounge part 2

There we are : Two years have passed already again since the last single by Jazzanova,
"I Human".

"Never change a winning team" is the name of the formula for success with the current coup "Now There Is We". Once again Paul Randolph takes care of vocal business and wrote lyrics that are as uplifting as only he can provide. The outcome is a infectious hybrid of vocal house and soulful pop. When Randolph repeats the line "There was me, now there is we, I never go back..." at the climax of the song, you notice that he's not only celebrating a romantic triumph, but also the community spirit of a well-functioning band, well maybe even of a party in sheer harmony.

The trademark of the track though is the ultra deep bass line – along the sophisticated live drum programming – fitting every house-set perfectly. Therefore you get – that's how service orientated Sonar Kollektiv is – the instrumental version on the flipside of this illustrious 10inch of vinyl.

First Traktor Sample

A couple of things this week made me revisit this edit. Firstly Greg Wilson featured it in a 'Festival Anthems' selection he recently uploaded to Mixcloud - http://tinyurl.com/d6yvsbc - and secondly it was featured in the closing scene and credits to this weeks episode of Mad Men. The combined effect meant that a fair few people have been downloading the version I uploaded here 3 years ago (which was also only available as a low quality MP3), so I thought it apt to give it a 'spit and polish' and make a remastered WAV version available for download. 

Even if you downloaded my original version you should grab this too as the remaster kicks like the proverbial mule!  :)

What's In Your Head

Here's an official remix I made for the German Tech-House producer Stimming. It's coming out on a charity compilation by Diynamic Music which includes remixes by Cassius, Kraak & Smaak, Hot Chip, Digitalism, Gui Boratto and many more. Had a lot of fun remixing this track as I was a huge fan of the original ever since it got out like 5 years ago. I'd describe my remix as kind of a Funky Tech-House vibe with a touch of Nu Disco. Hope you guys like it. Special thanks to F.A.Q & Eric Mendelson for slaying their guitars on this one.

Over the last couple of years a number of producers have emerged that have captured the spirit of that original Chicago House sound from back in the day; a time when house music wore it's disco influences firmly on it's sleeve. Producers such as Neville Watson, Kink, Hard Ton, Snuff Crew &amp; Shiny Objekts (to name a few) manage to create music that's deep and raw yet still oozes funk and soul.

The 'Acid Soul' series of mixes celebrate this sound and this latest instalment features a bunch of stuff I've been playing in my peak time sets in recent months (including the Carnival after party a few weeks back). It wouldn't be a Leftside Wobble set though without a smattering of edits too, and this features some killer versions of Marvin Gaye and Steve Winwood classics as well as my own recent spin on 'Could Heaven Ever Be Like This'.
