I was asked to remix this Gospel disco classic and it ended up being the lead track on the promo twelve for the Tirk 02 compilation. Massive thanks to Gilles Peterson and Greg Wilson for their support with this track. It was released in Feb 2009.

Our Lips Are Sealed - Pezas 'No - Ones Listening' Edit

A couple of things this week made me revisit this edit. Firstly Greg Wilson featured it in a 'Festival Anthems' selection he recently uploaded to Mixcloud - http://tinyurl.com/d6yvsbc - and secondly it was featured in the closing scene and credits to this weeks episode of Mad Men. The combined effect meant that a fair few people have been downloading the version I uploaded here 3 years ago (which was also only available as a low quality MP3), so I thought it apt to give it a 'spit and polish' and make a remastered WAV version available for download. 

Even if you downloaded my original version you should grab this too as the remaster kicks like the proverbial mule!  :)

I was a big fan of ‘Stop Making Sense’, the Talking Heads concert from 1984, which was released as both a film and an album. It starts with David Byrne on an empty stage with just a ghetto blaster and acoustic guitar, performing one of the band’s best-known tracks, ‘Psycho Killer, which was originally released in 1977. The beats, courtesy of a Roland TR-808 drum machine, re-appear in extended form over the closing credits. The idea of an edit was there from the moment I bought ‘Stop Making Sense’ on VHS back in the 80’s, but the sound quality from the video wouldn’t have been up to scratch. However, when it was released on DVD later down the line, this was no longer a problem, and I was able to let the beats run on their own for a couple of minutes before the guitar enters and the track really kicks in.

The edit took off in a big way for me, and later with DJ’s including Andrew Weatherall and Optimo. It subsequently became a major festival tune for me and featured in my Essential Mix in 2009 (http://soundcloud.com/gregwilson/essential-mix-greg-wilson-mix-for-bbc-radio-1). This may well be the last tune I ever post - as I'll probably get bumped for even attempting to edit such a stone-cold classic. Pure sacrilege, I know, but before you reach for that pitchfork, check it out - I've been kind to it, I swear. 

It's aligned to a tempo to make it easy for a budding DJ to play the flock out. And I've layered some tasteful grooves throughout and a sore-ass bass during the god-like epic moments. That way, if you haven't already melted from the pure gorgeousness of Minne Riperton's vocals, you may at least bask in its blistering sub-boominess.

Either way, if this doesn't move you (or your bowels), you are possibly dead inside and should seek advice at your local mortuary. Sorry.
