"Will U Hold On?" Is a piece of me that comes from grief. Loss has been a reoccurring thing in my life for some time now, and art has continued to play the role of therapy. While this song is only a representation, I hope that it can give others like me some peace.

Granville Bantock's setting of words by Harold Boulton is prefaced on the score with the words: 'The refrain of this song was actually used recently on a Hebredean Island by a singer who thereby attracted a quantity of seals to gather round and listen intently to the singing.'

The 'Hoiran, oiran, oiran, oiro' of the refrain is certainly evocative. Bantock's setting is performed here by David Barton (piano) and Ruth Carlyle (voice). The painting of the seal is by Nic Carlyle.

Before the release of her first record a decade ago, Quebecois musician Myriam Gendron was busking in Paris, singing Leonard Cohen songs. In a striking full-circle moment, the artist's newest release, 'Mayday', sees her inching closer than ever to the icon's delicate balance of light and darkness. Singing in English and in French, Gendron reminds the listener that even the most pitch-black night is but a transactional state - this too shall pass.
