✈ SLEAZY IN BRAZIL ✈

Brazil's rich and rhythmic musical history roots its development all the way back to the first Native Americans, who paired rituals and worship with a blend of panpipes, rattlers and other early instruments. As early as the 17th century, the musical influence of the slaves from Africa added the contrast of their own traditional instrument, the drum. Added to that, Portuguese colonists, whose selection of instruments included the mandolin, ukulele and of course the guitar, sang ballads and put the love and passion into the already vibrant melting pot of musical magic.

And that's why Sleazy finds himself fascinated by this particular strand of good-time music. All the different influences that go into Brazil's past and current state makes its music a sound that sticks to it's roots but can gladly be inspired by new styles. This month's soundcast starts us off flying into Rio in the 1960s, excited and at awe by the city's vibrancy and passion for music. We move through guitar based ballads and odes to the country, 70s soul and funk whose influence by Western movements never shakes it's true roots in Brazilian rhythm, and of course infectious samba that always makes the world shake.
