Whether you view GE-OLOGY as a world-class producer, visual artist or DJ depends on how long you’ve known him. His prolific contributions to music, & art more broadly, span over 40 years & are well-documented. An artist in every sense, Ge-ology has excelled across numerous disciplines like illustration, fine arts painting & sculpture, graphic design & music production - all well before the term “multidisciplinary artist” was popularized.
Among his bountiful accolades are his earliest beats as part of the 4 member high school hip hop crew “Born Busy” with Tupac Shakur in the 80s, and later, his collaborative alteration of the hip hop visual & fashion landscape with the jointly talented Matt Doo through their “mentally ILLustrated” artistic partnership Dooable Arts in the 90s, & his production of cultural milestones like songs on both the debut “Mos Def & Talib Kweli are Black Star” & Mos Def’s solo “Black On Both Sides” LPs.
 
Ge-ology’s profound artistry sets him apart from his peers and is abundantly clear in his DJing and musical experimentation. He flawlessly expresses contrast, depth, texture & color to blend music & art into a single creative lens. “It’s really the same language. You can describe music in artistic ways & colors in a very musical way.”
Never stagnant or complacent, between touring internationally & his residency at Public Records, Ge-ology is wrapping up two highly-anticipated creative projects for Fall 2023. One record is his full production, the other is a rework of a rare, never reissued record of which he’s obtained the master reel & blessing of the original artist.
 
When asked about his taste & approach to selection, Ge-ology keeps it simple. “Every time I play, I want to bring something special to the table.” He likes to play “shit that’s different,” whether it’s overlooked cheap heat, music people don’t know or high value rare records that very few people have.He digs for music that’s under the radar, extremely funky, soulful & moving.
Always intriguing & exciting, Ge-ology engages dancers on his musical voyages by seamlessly & organically bringing them up & down to different emotional places. But expect some surprises & curveballs - “I don’t like to be bored or to be predictable, so you can always expect something interesting!”

To truly appreciate Ge-ology’s wizardry, you need to be there for the whole story.

Idle Cellars is back with another chiller killer for your Autumn revelry! This time around we’ve got another stellar mix from West Coast pioneer, Bay Area Rave legend & Cali breakbeat progenitor DJ SPUN! Responsible for breaking breaks in SF in the early 90s, punk rock bandleader in the early 80s, disco mastermind in the early 00’s - the man has been there, done that, whether via his label Rong Music, curating events at PS1 in NYC with the cream of club culture, humbly embodying some of the greatest DJ skills in the world, let alone the US (and let alone California!). 

His resume is far too long to list here, but he’s given us this fantastic mix for horizontal grooving that he’s titled “Idle Dub…Idle Chug”. Spun commented: “For fall and winter I usually switch to red wine…So this mix marked the start of the season and is a testament to the effect of a bottle of red!” Say no more squire! 

As usual, we’re in love with this journey through music, a gentle nudge from wonderful ambience through some late-night dubby funk on a slo-mo tip, keeping things musical and in outerspace!
