Our guest in Hour 2 is Rita Maia who hosts her weekly Saturday night show 'Sine of the Times' on the excellent Resonance FM and drops a mix with sounds from her native Lisbon and other exclusive unreleased bits. This is what she had to say;
"This Solid Steel mix, i wanted to include a lot of new sounds that have been circulating and mutating in a very underground circuit around Lisbon for the last 10 years, with influences of Kuduru, Tarracho and other things but very unique of that european city & definitely have a familiar feel.
I also think they have a similar feel to some of the UK sound and sound system culture, and having worked in projects in the outskirts of town before moving to London 12 years ago, it's special to play stuff that's made on such a diy way in times when everything is so predicted and polished in this industry. Most stuff is not even mastered properly but the rhythms are really quite obsessive. 

I get sent stuff since my show at London Resonance FM is syndicated there on a Friday night too via Radio Oxigenio. Other things are from digging online, most of it made by very young people who are doing their own thing and not bothered about sending it to anyone, so quite difficult to get.
Principe Label is doing a brilliant work to promote these sounds outside of the outskirts, some of the producers on the label in there are, Nigga Fox, Marfox & Maboku. 

Other things in the mix are by producers i've been playing loads in gigs like italian producer Khalab who recorded a mix for my show last year and Clap Clap, Emma, etc and some sounds from producers in south Africa and Mocambique, which are always close links to my home town where i grew up. "

Solid Steel in association with Serato (1st May) We continue celebrating the relaunch of the Solid Steel website http://www.solidsteel.net  with the return of Four Tet and an exclusive mix alongside Anthony Naples for a TEXT Records special. Four Tet first appeared on Solid Steel back in 2001 and you can now hear this mix in the Featured section on the website, along with another mix from 2002 (which also featured Bonobo, DJ Food and DK as part of the Solid Steel Tour retrospective.) We also feature a 2001 mix from Koushik, who was the first artist to release an EP on Text Records.

Four Tet is up first digging deep with a vinyl only selection and as with one of his previous shows, there's no track list, but you can see a photo of the the album covers for every record in the background image to his mix at http://www.solidsteel.net
He had this to say about his mix;

"My latest Solid Steel mix uses music from all over the world but most of it chosen because it sounds like it comes from another world. These are all older records and things I have been listening to recently and have discovered on my endless search for music."

Our twenty sixth Chapter presents a powerful pair. Artists Stevie R (OFF, Babiczstyle, Parquet, Inside Out) and Delfin (Motek) conjure studio magic in their collaboration on the Jalemba EP.

The EP opens with the title track, a wonderfully atmospheric cut that allies heavy percussive rhythms with hypnotic tribal chanting and vintage synth harmonies. It is accompanied by another original, Lepa Sela, a deeper, mysterious and engaging affair with liquid, found sound grooves.

The remixes on the package befit this stunning pair of originals.
First up, the in-demand Mathias Schober, boss of Lossless and man of a thousand disguises, contributes a couple of bombs in the form of his Rhythm Sequence and Rhythm Rework. The former grabs the headlines as a peak-time affair, whereas the latter offers a pleasing, chunky heads down groove.

Next to provide Editions are Rancido (Innervisions, Connaisseur) and newcomer Juan (Kindisch).
Rancido adds power and punch to Jalemba in trademark style, ensuring the track cuts through on any dancefloor.

Meanwhile, Juan delivers a powerful Afro re-rub of Lepa Sela that brings the curtain down on an impressive EP.
