For February Album Writing Month I tried to draw an invisible line between "writing" and "having a completely done and polished song." I don't know if I'll ever edit/polish/finish anything I made this month but I'm really glad I took on this challenge!

Strange Girl

Empty Jars

I grit my teeth when I'm uncomfortable.
Maybe that's why I've lost so many teeth.
But, somehow, I can still find this face beautiful
under shades of blue and red, yellow and pink.

I've spent my whole life giving in
all to get just what I got.
And to find, there's more to living
than what I thought.

So peel the dress off of my body.
Wipe the foundation from my face.
I cower from the light, like a roach, lest you see me.
The wrinkles, the acne scars, the bug bites on my legs.

You take one look and say to me, "I ain't turned off."
"That corpse of your has got more life left in it, than what you thought."

There's some brass rings in life you can't grab onto.
Thoughts and dreams you'll never truly hold.
Like a simply perfect notion, one that will never tarnish
even as you watch yourself grow old.

But whoever it is that we become
there will always be the things we're running from
And with 'em, a lot more there than what we'd though.

What We Thought

I've tried to get away from everything I've done and said.
Years ago, I tried to kill myself. I shouldn't be here, I should be dead.
I wish that I could bury that boy, and put his fears to rest.
They continuously echo all around inside my head.

I took new pronouns, bought new clothes, gave myself my own name.
And hoped, that if I fixed those things, that somehow the rest would change.
But I came for answers, came for closure. Yeah, that's why I came.
Found out the work will never end, I'll persist anyway.

I've been this way so long, my mom says it's been since my youth.
That I'd always sought a well to drink in deep and feed these wilted roots.
But it might be easier to sell me shit, than give me truth.
'Cause I've been so hard-headed now, I can't believe or I won't believe.

Now I think I've found a way, and now I think I'm doing it.
Think I'm finally driving this thing, but I need to dump the body in the passenger seat.
