Maricopa returns to Back To The Balearics to complete his stunning opus, Pastel Love. And he continues where he left off building deeply textured songs packed full of simple melodies that really shine. His music opts for subtle feelings and passing vibes over the more obvious structures of ‘dance music’. The release of Part One led to a number of comparisons with the early work of Aphex Twin as well as more contemporary producers such as Four Tet. Such comparisons don’t come lightly, but Pastel Love demonstrates that a rare musical talent has arrived. The release again has beautiful printed covers and looks as good as it sounds. UK-based Nang presents Disco legend Rayko latest album, due for release on the 31st of March 2014 on vinyl and digitally. 

Nang has been releasing quality Disco since its inception, dropping tracks from the likes of Martin Brodin, Tensnake, Daniele Baldelli, Brioski, Toby Tobias and with an incredible list of remix artists such as Luke Solomon, Andrew Weatherall and Lindstrom amongst other. This spring they are delivering Disco visionary Rayko's latest album Rebirth which follows Rayko's latest single, Rusos Theme on the Uk-based imprint. 

The LP comprises 10 forward thinking disco tracks and it opens with Balearic Intro, which is a slow tempo moody disco tune, guided by an almost talking guitar solo. The second track The Cave is clearly influenced by 80s synth rock while Time And Space is more a deep club focused tune. The fourth cut Nightlogy is a perfect example of how Rayko can revitalise dated sounds and give them new shine, adding on top of the tune a soulful vocal. This last cut is on par with Rusos Theme, a more pop oriented track driven by the hypnotic male voice that repeats "I'm gonna make you love me.", quite a clear mission statement!

The LPs title track merges acid synth lines with a relentless groove and its a strong dancefloor focused track. He Came From The Space is an uplifting funky tune, while Dreamer is a more groovy synth driven tune with a cheeky vibe to it. The last 2 tracks are the perfect ending for the album: Warhammer is a slow moody cut while the closing tune Goodbye Baby is a proper club track, in which a funky slapped bass line is combined with guitar riffs and a long ethereal pad, it rounds off the release perfectly and feels like the end of the show.

Spain's Rayko latest LP Rebirth is due for release on the 12th of May: keep your eyes out all Disco heads.

Lead track "Omar", reworks a fairly obscure early 80's R&B track into a dance floor burner.  Features plenty of loops, filters and added percussion.  

"Pay Attention" captures a great piano driven soul loop, just the right amount of additional drum elements and topped off with some wise vocal samples from 2 of New York City's most distinguished voices in music. 

P-SOL kicks the b side off by reworking, arranging & dubbing the Barbara Roy And Ecstasy disco classic, "If You Want Me" while still keeping the integrity of the original track.

"Passion" finishes off the EP as P-SOL steers you off into the sunset - smooth sailing.

Ultrasonic Love Waves is a multi media phonic experience, and was inspired by L’Equipe Du Son‘s love of 80s teen flicks and 70s sci-fi.
A homage to the movies that made an imprint on the artist’s life, which unconsciously has been the core inspiration for all his music productions in general and to date. “The story holds many different scenes, I tried to make music that expresses the ‘feeling’ of a particular scene, whether it is a love scene or an intergalactic battle.” It was only natural that these two genres would organically merge together, and strongly represent the storyline.

Continental’s own A&R and multi-tasking, all around vibe meister DJ drops his debut solo single ‘Yeah!’, the send off to his no-nonsense DJ Tools series on the label.

Pioneer of the Parisian electronic scene, long relocated to London, Jerry Bouthier joins passionately the dots between music and fashion. The resident dj of east London’s infamous and now defunct BoomBox night knows a good tune when he hears one as his Continental label’s output testifies. His celebrated dj mixes for Kitsuné, Emerald & Doreen and his own Heart & Soul series are captivating labours of love that have attracted followers the world over. His stylish upbeat dj sets, blending genres and everything else fancied by this iconoclast Frenchman, never fail to rock the party from one continent to another. 

Also a sound-designer for fashion, his post-modern soundtracks for Vivienne Westwood – seamlessly merging classical into world music, punk into cosmic disco and more - have become the stuff of legends. In the studio, he produces as JBAG - his baleariscopop project with Andrea Gorgerino - together they’ve released 4 singles (inc. tropical anthem ‘Mogadisco’) and remixed Two Door Cinema Club, RÜFÜS, Ladyhawke… however it’s now time for a new recording chapter.

Jerry explains why he’s never released a record under his own name before:
“I come from a band/group background and as long as I wasn’t producing tunes strictly on my own, it didn’t seem fair to the other musicians involved in the creative process with me. That’s why we started JBAG for instance, the contribution of my musical sidekick Andrea Gorgerino is huge, it wouldn’t have made sense to release our stuff as Jerry Bouthier…
With time I’ve acquired confidence and felt I could produce some decent DJ tunes on my own, the kind of funky, housey stuff I play in my sets, nothing as musical or song-led as JBAG – it wouldn’t be fun to do the same thing. The idea of delivering a series of DJ Tools soon came to me, you know simple yet effective tracks that work the dancefloor well without fuss…
So I locked myself in the studio with a pile of old vinyl and came up with ‘Yeah!’, my first attempt at going back to house basics, fusing the soulful vocals of yesterday’s NYC dancefloors to the more underground, bassline vibe of London.”

On the remix front Barcelona duo Mordisco, takes the deep house route with a sensual chugger that’ll work its wonders in the early hours. Next another duo, Tel Aviv’s B1ZB1Z, turns out a dreamy disco reinterpretation spiced-up by a zest of indie.

here's our new baby : "bedtime stories - sounds for a sweaty summer"... the idea behind this mix was to share some of the best tracks we've discovered in the past few months. as you can imagine, we weren't able to limit ourselves to new discoveries and ended up putting some old favorites into the stew.
