Based in Queensland, Australia, Nerang Recordings has put out music from Interplanetary Criminal, Subjoi, DJ Swagger, DJ Bowlcut, J. Albert, Cassettes For Kids, and many more since its inception in 2016. Reaching five years of the imprint, head honcho Dj Whipr Snipr curates the second ‘Freaky Friends’ compilation, featuring contributions from a host of label associates and hotly tipped producers for six fast-paced, heavy-hitting tracks
 
Leading the release, Shall Not Fade and E-Beamz affiliate DJ Swagger’s ‘Hoticewater’ blends deep oscillations with skipping breaks and shimmering pads, with Low Tape’s ‘So Delicious’ following, keeping the energy high. 
Striking vocals meet trippy FX and electro-tinged drum patterns across the track, a continuation of the DJ/producer’s releases on the likes of X-Kalay and Of Paradise. 
Fresh off the back of their recent ‘Sportsgoth’ EP, Brazil’s Nørus and Dj Whipr Snipr collide once more on ‘Molecular Collision’, bringing classic 808 kits, acid lines, and squelchy synthesisers together. 

Classic electro sounds meet modern production techniques on LA-based Ole Mic Odd’s ‘In The House’, as robotic vocal lines meet heavy arps. Ramping up the tempo, Berlin-based Nasty Enterprises boss Nasty King Kurl returns to the label with a fast and powerful off-kilter jam, leaning on freaked out vocals and tough percussion. 
Rounding out the release, Cologne’s Turk Turkelton offers up ‘Offenbachs Father’, delivering a track complete with razor-sharp drum workout and expressive synth work.

Capping off a successful year, Tash's Movement Recordings welcomes Circle of Life and ZAC to the label for a special two track showcase. No stranger to Movement Recordings is Circle of Life who returns for his sixth appearance. The Serbian artist made his label debut in 2019 with the well-received 'Black Light' EP. The next two years would see the Belgrade resident forge a strong bond with the label, delivering three originals and two remixes across four excellent releases, while also landing projects for top tier imprints such as Beat Boutique, Beatfreak, Siona Records, Sprout and Hernan Cattaneo's Sudbeat Music. Meanwhile, making his label debut is Brazilian talent ZAC. The Santa Catarina resident has enjoyed immense success over the course of his fourteen-year career. Now collaborating for the first time, Circle of Life and ZAC join forces for their much-anticipated double A-side vehicle 'Kosmos / New Moon'.

Beginning with 'Kosmos', Circle of Life and ZAC demonstrate just how strong their creative synergy is. Led by a robust groove, pulsating rhythms and astral stabs, its ethereal nature captivates from the outset. Dark and cavernous across the first act, a dramatic sensibility rises as flickering sonics and arcane overlays blanket the electric groove. Stripping down into the second of two breaks a more emotive sensibility rises, as luminous tonal themes provide a warm glow amidst a haze of colour and harmony, eventually giving way to a flurry of drums as the energetic groove drops for a spirited finale.

Originally appearing on the 2020 album ‘For The Very Last Time’, Irish-Iranian musician Glassio’s ‘Summertime (Kept the Blues Away)’, a sun-soaked slice of indie pop, receives the remix treatment on toucan sounds. The release sees Glassio revisit his track alongside a remix from label boss Robert PM, dropping ahead of their New Years Eve party at Mercury Lounge in New York City, which features Glassio and French Horn Rebellion on the lineup. Flipping ‘Summertime (Kept the Blues Away)’ into a deep and driving cut, Robert PM introduces a 4/4 pattern, fluttering arps, and resonant low-end into the mix, making for a dynamic and engaging listen from start to finish. Following this is Glassio’s own ‘Italo Mix’, with lively claps, heavy-hitting disco toms, and a chugging bassline making way for classic Italo-disco tropes. DJ Different dons his Terraform alias as he begins his journey in ‘Entering The Void’ on CYBERDOME; exploring phat electro bass-lines and party-starting ghettotech energy with its crosshairs fixated firmly on the club environment.

Born and raised in the culturally rich city of Malmo, the Swedish producer has previously released on London based label Deeply Cultured, Distant Hawaii, Mood Of Era, 1Ø PILLS MATE and Traxx Underground, spanning atmospheric techno, ethereal breakbeat and chunky electro.

‘Ultrasonic’ is an ear-wriggling cut of stripped-back psychedelia. As David Holmes would say, all the best electronic music tracks are made up of only a few components. Here, typical electro synth stabs, robotic vocal sampling and sparse precision allows the track room to breathe, whilst maintaining a deep and funk-driven groove.

‘Ghettotech’ sounds how you would expect it to; pounding kicks, frantic atmospherics and lairy screw-face hype combine on a certified fire-starter, before ‘Exiting The Void’ introduces itself on a footwork vibe that evolves into a sequence of interstellar-dungeon dub-electro.

‘The Rise of the Slavs’ takes its inspiration from the diverse group of tribes who lived in Central and Eastern Europe in the 6th to 10th centuries, establishing the foundations for the Slavic nations; it’s marching rhythm beaming historical context into 21st Century dance music.

Loïcc elegantly sets the stage with sonar-like nightcrawler ‘Ekman Layer’, gradually locking the listener into an ominous program that is best approached with caution.  

Following up is EEBONE with no-nonsense dystopian aggressor ‘Lost Space’, letting tight percussion take charge while tense keys ramp up the pressure throughout.

The stakes are then leveraged when All Trades fires on all pistons of rhythmic violence for ‘No Delivery’. A seven-minute barrage of detuned detonations leaves only wasteland behind.

From these ashes rises 5ZYL with ‘Absurd Control’, showcasing heavy-duty lows with a deep array of cosmic scanners, all bringing down the tempo while building up the next, unknown chapter to come.

Soulless Remixes

PREMIERE: Arctor - Soulless (Mathis Ruffing remix) (Tremors)

Over the last few months we’ve been working on a project that aims to raise awareness of an issue that keeps losing public awareness. In the hope of finding safety and protection in Europe and a fair asylum procedure, people are forced to cross the Mediterranean Sea in unseaworthy boats. Not only are state authorities and the European Union refusing to provide humanitarian aid, they are criminalizing civil sea rescue.
Because of this ongoing situation, we have started another fundraising campaign in order to make a small contribution to the essential work of Sea-Watch e.V. Their main goal is to try to save as many people as possible from drowning in the Mediterranean Sea. Additionally, they are committed to educating people about human rights violations at the European borders, for example with their podcast “Grenzerfahrung”.
We collected a variety of sounds by ten beloved artists to present our very first Various Artist EP: “Passages”.
All the collected proceeds will go straight to @seawatchcrew .
