Not many people knew about the wonders of this underground party. It was, and always had been, a word of mouth situation, restricted to those who were non-judgmental and willing to let go of their inhibitions. This is the way it would always be: it ensured the space to be safe, sacred and untouched, and the partygoers to be faces who'd soon become friends and not remain strangers. 

For their next release, a digital two-tracker titled The Leisure Hive, NYC's Throne Of Blood link up three Philadelphian artists: Optimo and Les disques de la mort signees Zillas On Acid and Permanent Vacation and Mister Saturday Night alumni Alex Burkat. The three artists first met at Dave P's Making Time parties where the former duo have been resident DJs for years. It's this night that inspired the idea behind this new release: two "psychedelic dance floor jams" that are custom-made to soundtrack the frivolities at open-minded soirees like Making Time.

PREMIERE: Zillas On Acid and Alex Burkat - The Leisure Hive [Throne Of Blood]

Funboys is the musical partnership of Audun and a.d.a.m. baby, ably assisted by Poodfy. The three have their roots in club scenes spanning more than three decades, stretching from Oslo and Antwerp, ending up on Australia’s Gold Coast.

The Apparatuses EP is a collection oddball jams blending hardware and organic instrumentation. The result is refreshingly left-of-centre, showcasing the trio’s bent take on somewhat danceable music.

Was inspired by the spirit of experimentation and old-fashioned laboratory equipment as seen on Australian television last century, courtesy of the late great Professor Julius Sumner Miller. His immortal question, burned into the brains of his young viewers, was always "Why Is It So?"
The practical execution involved an Adrenaline (a recent product from the inventor of the modern-day drum machine, Roger Linn), playing tug-o-war with a Devilfish, a mutant of that essential dancefloor engine, the Roland TB-303.

Take Me To The Cleaners

is based on the rather frankly disturbing 1965 Japanese art-house film "Black Snow", now almost impossible to find, but for which its director was actually arrested and tried. He was acquitted and went on to become known as the "Father Of Pink" films. In a satanic twist, under the demented synthetic orchestration and dub basslines, dialogue samples from the actual film have been spun in backwards.

Step Down

In 1976 when Bowie was making inquiries as just how enthusiastic Tony Visconti might be in regards to helping make his next record, "Low", he received the response "I've got just the thing we need! There's this new machine I've been testing that fucks with the fabric of time!!"
The machine Visconti was referring to was the Eventide Harmonizer, and it stamped a unique sonic character on that album that artists are still in awe of today.
Here it can be heard twisting the journey of a group of young spelunkers that are literally 'stepping down to the underground' for the very first time. The backdrop to this subterranean adventure is an evolving loop of raw acid from an ancient mini Korg 700, Korg's very first synthesizer from 1973.

Crackin' Bones

As its skeleton, a rhythm derived from the Bossa Nova crossed and braced with the Bolero. Over these bones are the flesh of gated noise bursts, ecstatic xylophones, Hollywood sound effects and "more cowbell"…

Two seasoned French DJs/producers team up in a Parisian studio for a vibrant alliance destined at the more elusive dancefloors - vous avez dit disco noir?
Long-time chums Jerry Bouthier and Julien Plaisir de France met at the beginnings of rave and forged an enduring friendship based on mutual artistic respect as well as a fondness for absurd humour and all things 80s. Both went on to define their own path whilst regularly contemplating working together on a project, alas to no avail. Until recently when, on a whim, they cracked open the champagne in the studio, let the jokes flow and finally got down to it. Created on vintage tools, fat synths and classic drum machines ‘Eccitatissimo’ (the clue is in the name) throws hypnotic basslines, chorus guitars and frantic effects into the mix; a 120 BPM peak-time banger that pushes the right buttons, groovy yet trance-like with spaced-out breakdown. 
Balearic player of the early Parisian rave/house scene (with late brother Tom), long since relocated to London, Jerry Bouthier eventually joined the dots between dancefloor and fashion as he became DJ stalwart of the Kitsuné label/clothing brand (owned by Daft Punk’s manager), touring around the world on the back of his residency at infamous London club BoomBox; whilst simultaneously maturing as diligent sound-designer for the fashion world (Vivienne Westwood etc), a craft - characterising moods - tailor-made for Jerry. Over the years he has created hundreds of soundtracks for the catwalks of London, Paris, Milan, NY and deejayed at the parties of some of fashion’s biggest names, yet still relishes his me time in the studio looking for the perfect beat/melody.
Having learnt the bass in his teens in the aim of joining his mates’ band, Julien Plaisir de France quickly caught the electronic bug, released his first 12”s on seminal Parisian house label Pro-Zak Trax and soon scored a club smash under his Sweet Light moniker with electro monster ‘Abusator’ (championed by 2 Many DJs, Tiga, Ivan Smaghe…). He renamed himself Plaisir de France and became a reference on the edit scene breathing new life in plethora of classics. Julien has just rounded off twenty years of music-making with the release of his debut album '#20’ celebrating timeless French electronic pop with the help of a motley bunch of stand-out vocalists and his own personal gallic twist. Still, true to himself, he remains a generous, eternally enthusiastic dj.
Jerry Bouthier: “We both love the original new wave/post-punk of yore, the sound of NY clubs such as Mud Club, Danceteria etc, when electronic instruments started to infiltrate studios and dancefloors. Futuristic music to dance to - obviously fed by disco - but also packed with attitude and interesting new sounds. A landmark in time… With Julien our musical trajectories crossed again thanks to the current dark disco thump that harps back to that golden era, it was the perfect moment to combine our inspirations and contribute to this scene that keeps on pushing the limits… A good occasion to spend time with Julien who makes you look at life with a smile, priceless!"

Up and coming Nordic-disco label Badabing Diskos serves up a trio of new remixes from talented associates Doc L Junior, Frifot and Vinny.
Since launching earlier in the year, Badabing has already served up a series of standout early EPs from the likes of Vinny Villbass, Sommerfeldt and diskJokke. This latest offering brings a different perspective to some key tracks, all of which show off the label's rich and musical mix of house and disco sounds.
Doc L Junior goes first with a Lonely Space Dub of Frifot's 'I Built My Spaceship out of Cartoon Dust'. It's a brilliantly charismatic and cosmic cut with bouncing bass and humanoid vocals layered up with future synth sounds that brings some tripped-out fun to the dance floor.
Norwegian space enthusiast Frifot then steps up himself with a take on label mainstay Vinny Villbass's 'Trust' tune. It shows off his synth mastery with mellifluous chords dancing above light and airy drums that suspend you in space. It's a colourful groove with sprinklings of disco dust.
Last of all is Vinny Villbass, a pivotal figure in the Oslo scene as a DJ, producer and promoter behind several key club nights. His Diversion take on Boblebad's 'Ørken' heads into the night with hip swinging claps and mysterious and enchanting leads over sleek space-house drums.
These are three more adventurous and vibrant tracks from the Badabing crew.

PREMIERE : Frifot - I Built My Spaceship out of Cartoon Dust (Doc L Junior Lonely Space Dub)

After contributing to the impactful “Shelter Me/Beats For Beds – The Remix Album”, whose proceeds were donated to the NGO Shelter UK, Ian Vale is back on the cool British label Paisley Dark with an EP to call his own. "Like lots of the tracks I’ve produced, “Loft Music” started out in a completely different place to where it eventually ended up”, said Ian. He also declared that the track was "created during the lockdown – it has been tweaked, played, and fine-tuned to what is now the version presented on this release”. He kindly claimed that he feels incredibly honoured to have remixes by some artists he has genuinely admired and looked up to for some time now. He meant Mindbender, Ed Mahon (SXDNS068), Jezebell, and 33rd December plus Duncan Leitch who reworked the bonus track.

Premiered here, Ed Mahon’s interpretation kept the main aura of the original, especially its acid attitude, but added some extra elements such as trippy synth layers, percussive elements, and a Funk-ish/Disco-ish dash. And before you ask: Yes, cowbells were properly added. But maybe not enough? 😉

"To Chce Mit Svuj System" is a sleazy electro disco number with its unmistakable 80s sound, instantly memorable without being too in your face. Optimo's JD Twitch comes on board with his extended edit, that stays close to original but has upgraded it for current dancefloors. 
And last but not least, a newly formed duo of Oliver Torr and LBD Sounds label owner Olin, now working under Torr & Rich moniker, are here with their debut work - a pitched down 80s disco reinterpretation of "To Chce Mit Svuj System".
