J Sky is one of the core people behind the amazing Strictly Strictly. We will let her words describe the mix and the intent behind it in her own words. 

"For this mix, I’ve created something goa - and tribal fueled (it’s my grind these days I guess), for the listeners to consume like a psychedelic journey. In general, I wanted to recreate an atmosphere or feeling that I could sense at the Krake parties: an ode to getting lost in eclectic sounds and in the moment, with no beginning and no end".

Reducción EP 

Reducción explora la auralidad de los espacios reverberantes y la psicoacústica que emerge de los mismos, como una metodología expandida de estimulación neurosensorial. Utiliza como referencia física la cúpula del templo Ex Teresa, para programar una serie de filtros espectrales que responden a las temporalidades de este espacio, aplicadas a una cadena de sintetizadores en MAX/MSP. Este EP, se presenta como una pieza sonora acompañada de una serie visual audio reactiva programada en TouchDesigner, inspirada en la obra del mismo título del artista mexicano Iván Edeza. En esta reinterpretación, Interspecifics imagina el destino metafísico de una gota de agua mientras se reduce en una hornilla eléctrica––elementos del video original de Iván––y ofrece un mundo audio-generativo que conduce la descomposición de esa gota en sus elementos y campos básicos. Una épica sonora nuevo-materialista de una otredad líquida y la historia de su desintegración. 



Reduction EP 

Reduction delves into the aurality of reverberant spaces and the resulting psychoacoustics as an expanded methodology for neurosensory stimulation. Using the Ex Teresa church dome as a physical point of reference, a series of spectral filters were programmed based on the temporal characteristics of this space and applied to a chain of synthesizers in MAX/MSP. This EP takes the form of a sound piece accompanied by an audio-reactive visual series programmed in TouchDesigner, inspired by Mexican artist Iván Edeza same name artwork. In this reinterpretation, Interspecifics imagines the metaphysical journey of a water droplet reduced in an electric burner––Ivan's original video elements ––offering an audio-generative world where we witness the droplet's decomposition into its fundamental elements and fields. A new materialist sound epic of a liquid otherness and its disintegration.

02 Interspecifics -  La Inmanencia Del Ser

One day I dreamt that you were no longer here.

Desvanecer–the latest EP from Mexican artist Leslie García aka Microhm–takes a glimpse into a world of abandoned spaces, hollowed structures; absence. Within the span of seven tracks, the artist explores the limits and crossovers between noise and ambience, utilizing rhythms of the Latin diaspora to conjure an electroacoustic future.

Among these compositions, such as nine-minute long "Nostalgia," Microhm combines colorful airy patches with droning atmospheres, melding the elements through hypnotic percussive rhythms that slowly unfold and retract–sometimes disappearing completely. During the dreamlike sequence of "Nostalgia," movement is constant. Pleasant shimmers suddenly collapse into foreboding rumbles; night terrors. Ephemeral flutters of light tease the listener before becoming overpowered by deep incantations of harrowing emptiness. The fourth track, "Silencio Cómplice" seems to be cut from the same cloth, though perhaps leaning further into despondence. The arrangement begins with hard kicks pulsing in a minimal dancehall rhythm, while a heavy drone emerges steadily. Drums weave in and out, pushing back beneath the subdued dread that builds through the murky atmosphere. "El Despojo" is not far off, where snares march through fields of unsettling ambience and surges of noise.

Yet within this project, Microhm also demonstrates interest in a sound that is more soft-spoken, delicate. "Sueño Premonitorio" could more or less be grasped as a progression of five chords across the span of three and a half minutes. The track's minimal arrangement and organ-tones give way to the sensation of entering a sacred space, the confines of a holy building or enclave. While there is an undoubtable feeling of absence that is manifest within these five sequences–and present throughout the rest of the record–"Sueño" seems to humbly acknowledge and perhaps revel in this emptiness, inviting the listener to take part in the rite.

Through the course of Desvanecer's thirty-four minutes, García does not present us with one complete conclusion or vision, but rather trickles of insight into a preordained future, a world not far from our own. Each track is beautifully mesmerizing and uniquely introspective; a fearless gaze into a space where absence is not devoid of change. Desvanecer is perhaps a ritual bidding of farewell; but equally so, it is the welcoming of a time when there are none of us left.

Micro-rhythms is a bio-driven installation where small variations in voltage inside microbial cells generate combining arrays of light patterns. A pattern recognition algorithm detects matching sequences and turns them in to sound. The algorithm written in Python uses three Raspberry Pi cameras with Open Computer Vision to track light changes creating a real-time graphic score for an octophonic audio system to be played with SuperCollider. The cells are fuelled using soil samples from every place where the piece is presented, growing harmless bacteria that clean their environment and produce the micro signal that detonates all the processes in the piece. Understood as an interspecies system, the installation amplifies the microvoltage produced by these microscopic organisms and transduces their oscillations into pure electronic signals with which they create an audiovisual system that evokes the origins of coded languages.

Microhm is but one of the sonorous pseudonyms of Mexican artist, Leslie García, known for her work in the media arts as part of the collectives, Interspecifics and Astrovandalistas. In the world of experimental electronics, she’s released work as LogarDecay on labels like Umor Rex (Mexico) and HayleTapes (France). With Microhm, García has developed electronic music that derives from influences like new wave, noise, and techno, and from a perspective of abstraction complemented by improvisation sessions. These make for an always-changing and dislocated live act. The debut EP, Eternal Night, is to be edited by the Mexican label, Static Discos.

Milena Pafundi is a transdisciplinary artist based in Buenos Aires. She works in audiovisual media across live performance, installation, theatre and dance. She also brings a profound interest in social issues, human rights and gender advocacy to her creations, working freelance in cultural projects related to art and technology and as a video journalist. She founded the Articiclo Collective and teaches visual arts from a gendered perspective.
