As we gear up to the release of Nitri’s debut album’ Zero Chance’, we offer you the chance to get a glimpse of what to expect with this, the first single to be taken from the LP.
Luciano has released a slew of great 12’s with Horizons over the last couple of years, constantly refining and bettering his sound with each release. The album can therefore be seen as the culmination of this effort and we are treated to two cuts of serious heat as you would come to expect from this talented Brazilian.
‘Undeserving’ features the vocal talents of Wednesday Amelia. Her sultry tones add a smokey jazz flavoured lick to proceedings, complimented by the flourishes of saxophone that feature throughout. The rumbling low end and crisp drums roll out nicely, giving the perfect platform for Wednesday's vocals to transport you away as the track progresses. The flip, ‘Strange Side’ is a different beast all together. This is a no holds barred, straight up dance floor smasher – the short intro makes way for a twisted, snarling resse-y bassline and the pounding drums are relentless throughout.
This 12” shows the diversity in Nitri’s production – soulful and smooth on the one hand, deadly and destructive on the other. This is just a small taste of what’s to come from ‘Zero Chance’. Be prepared....

Released on August 10th via Viper Recordings comes the second single from The Prototypes hotly anticipated debut LP, ‘City of Gold'.

Fully embracing a summer sound with the A-side ‘Don’t Let Me Go’, the production and DJ duo smoothly combine old school style piano chords, signature energized drums and the pulse-racing vocals of Amy Pearson. Already receiving nationwide radio support, the single package also includes a sultry house remix from the talented Jade Blue and an electro-fuelled "Big Top" dancefloor rework by The Prototypes themselves.

High Water Mark is a classic set starter kicking off with a delicate guitar riff that swiftly switched to a grinding bassline. Bass music icon Benny Page has announced his new single, ‘Party With You’ featuring Sweetie Irie, to be released by High Culture and Rise Artists on 29th March 2015 and premiered by Mistajam on BBC Radio 1. Following on from the success of ‘Champion Sound’, his previous hit single, Benny Page has been widely celebrated for his work, noted by his first live concert being sponsored by DJ Mag at The Jazz Cafe. Achieving over sixty national spins in two months, ‘Champion Sound’ was favoured by Annie Mac (BBC Radio 1), Mistajam (BBC Radio 1), Rodigan (Radio 1Xtra) and Don Letts (BBC 6 Music), alongside a video premier on Noisey and other publications. The critical success of ‘Champion Sound’ culminated in Benny Page winning a BMA award for “Best Video” and was followed by an exciting signing to a brand new label for his upcoming album.

‘Party With You’ champions Benny Page’s signature reggae bass fusion sound. Featuring vocals from UK reggae legend Sweetie Irie, notable for his classic remix of ‘Clint Eastwood’ by Gorillaz and pulled together by a lively brass section, infectious Drum and Bass groove and deep flowing tones of Sweetie's vocals, this song epitomizes the uptempo feel of a Drum and Bass rave with its catchy hooks and warm production.

Being a production line of carefully crafted composition with a meticulous production standard, Calyx & Teebee have delivered yet again. Back on vocal duties, Calyx demonstrates the pair’s multi-dimensional approach to beat making. Drawing you ever-deeper into their forthcoming LP ‘1x1’, Calyx & TeeBee’s next offering presents not only a landmark release, but also their unbridled integrity. The anticipation around this second album is only growing, having scored three Beatport numbers ones with their latest singles. On top of playing sold out shows at Brixton Academy, as well as festivals across the Atlantic and singles and producing remixes on major labels, it’s clear to see how they’ve met these benchmarks. 

‘Cloud 9’ sees Calyx back on vocals, adding a soulful depth which creates a narrative behind the music. Carefully drawn out lyrics create a cinematic edge, intimate and adding an 80’s new wave flare which is seldom seen within the genre. Layers gradually build underneath the track’s more humanistic elements, with a distorted bassline revving up and peddling the record forward. Ducking and diving between twisted beats, you’re launched through a segment of glitchy sonic, before stockier subs underpin the composition. A testament to an unbreakable production standards, it only alludes to another studio album set to make history.

The name ‘Panic Attack’ in itself is foreboding; implicating an explosive flipside, it delivers with an almighty kick and leaves you reeling. Snapping and kicking between hi-hats and low-mids, ‘Panic Attack’ is explosively aggressive from its roll out. Winding up on elongated note patterns and quaking percussion, the erratic break pushes you through a soundscape of madness. However, this is one methodically built… Keeping you hooked from start to finish with pounding drum loops. An incredible verification of their technical knowledge, this isn’t just the groundwork for a second studio album. It epitomises the solid, reverberating history the duo hold between them.

When Technique Recordings bosses Drumsound & Bassline Smith come with a fresh release, they've got some big expectations to fulfil. True heads will know that their roots were firmly planted back in the old skool of nineties rave culture. And, this millennium, they've built and sustained a reputation as architects of the big room style that's seen drum and bass explode in popularity. So, how are they going to live up to that this time?

Well, “The Truth” promises great things from the outset. A panoramic landscape is laid out before us, with dunes of unforgiving percussive sounds overcast by clouds of minor key tonalities and dark-child dialogue. It's the quiet before the riot, punctured by an alarm call signal flare which sparks things into life. Then the drop delivers a straight-up punch-up between bass and treble, as call and response patterns merge and collide to create an unrelenting groove. This is the EDM paradigm delivered with a junglist mentality and rarely-seen layers of subtlety to satisfy the listener as well as the raver.

“Outlaw Renegade” teleports us straight to the wild west on some distant technologically-advanced planet. The intro lays out a scene of the deserted main street where building percussion and feedback sweeps are the harbingers of the gangsta vibes about to ride through. The drop is constructed around road-hard drums, which provide a rock-solid foundation for the bassline to go to work. And that low-end drives through with sub-shattering force, creating a wave to overdose even the most hardcore bass-addict.

We all know that Drumsound & Bassline Smith deliver nothing but big tunes. The two tracks on this release serve as a reminder that underpinning that floor-filling, rave-filling, arena-filing reputation, are some seriously impressive musical and technical skills. These pieces are cinematic in ambition and attention to detail and that means they're going to be drawn for time and time again by knowledgable DJs across the globe.
