Knife presents the podcast 190 by Eve Schwarz an artist charcterized by playing raw and edgy tunes reflecting the typical intensity of her mixes. Industrial noise, combined with straight techno elements and distorted breaks might define her signature sound. Although a good dose of unpredictability and experimental challenge underline her diverse artistic appearance. 
After residencies in her home city Frankfurt and hosting several events at the side of Anthony Rother Eve settled over to Berlin with the focus on growing behind the scenes and developing her own musical output. 
She has presented in several venues such as Arena Club, About Blank or Tresor.

For the 6th episode, we welcome Paris-based producer, DJ and live act @substencia with the recording of her live performance at our July's event in Brussels. She fuses the most delightful industrial techno with ominous and transcendental dark ambient - cinematic lullabies and noise-collages get along with destructive drum patterns for the sake of her obscure knowledge.
Substencia regularly shares her passion for music across France and has performed at parties and festivals such as Château Perché and FIFIB in Bordeaux, as well as iconic clubs in Europe, including Tresor in Berlin, Elipamanoke in Leipzig and Moog in Barcelona.

Vertov Model is a techno artist, based in Paris, who tries to create through his mixes and podcasts, a unique universe, composed of metal and screaming voices.
He spends an extremely long time on each podcast in order to choose and select the best tracks together. His work creates a mix that is often coherent and sought after. He uses techno to transcribe the state of the current world.

Surreal East is the musical project of an artist who has been producing since 2011. With a background of experimenting across numerous genres like dark ambient, Cinematic Scores (OSTs for Movie and Video Game projects), trip-hop, breakbeat, post-rock, techno, doomcore, orchestrations and etc. the project is known for its ability to create deeply atmospheric, cold and immersive soundscapes. 

Surreal East's music is distinguished by its cinematic elements and an unpredictable dramaturgy, which adds an intriguing layer to every track. 

During the pandemic, Surreal East ventured into DJing and started perfoming with the mix of dark ambient, industrial drum&bass, crossbreed and hardcore. Then completly went into techno,
combining a passion for energetic beats with deep, cold atmospheric, mind-blending melodies.

By 2023, the artist had begun perfoming DJ sets alongside influential figures in the scene, such as Oguz, 6ejou, Parfait, Rouge, Skryption, In Verruf and Gabrielle Rites, the founder of the hard techno label and event series "INNERGATE".

Blending strong techno rhythms with deep atmospheric, cinematic and ritual mood, Surreal East's DJ sets have become a frequent feature at major events withing the hard techno community.

Nanzhen Yang is a multiple-disciplinary artist and DJ based in Berlin and London, and a resident at the renowned Boudica, a platform focused on the faster side of electronic music that showcases women, trans+, and non- binary artists. 
 
Nanzhen seeks comfort in chaos, combining her love of techno music with experimental soundscapes, exploring the space between romanticism and industrial textures. From hard grooves to dark, ritualistic rhythm, she established a deep connection to the crowd through well-curated selections, she paints the picture of an artist who's deeply passionate and skilled in creating memorable sonic experiences for the dance floors.
Her unique mixing approach has brought her sound to international recognition . As not only one of the local favourites, she has expanded her music footprint in Berlin, Copenhagen, Vienna, Riga and Prague, played at the renowned venues and platforms as FOLD, Corsica studio, Kitkat, Inferno, Gegen, Hangaren and more.

ÆSTR, France-based DJ & Producer, began her artistic journey in 2010, as Yshar : a professional dancer and musician in live bands. She toured across France and Europe.


In 2011, she began producing tracks as ÆSTR, driven by her love for industrial, ambient and techno music. She fused it with psytrance to create psytechno tracks. She began djing in 2017 in the french cradle of electronic music : Grenoble.



Now based in Lyon, she has established her DJ set signature : a strong foundation in Industrial Techno, enhanced by the harshness of rhythmic Noise, Hypnotic, Dark Techno and the sexy groove of EBM. She creates an organic dialogue, punctuated by atmospheric vocals and metallic percussion. 

Her dance and music background help her create a mesmerizing, surprising and brutal experience. She uses her technique and sensitivity to build the performance in the momentum with and for the people dancing, as a catalyst.
ÆSTR has shared line-up with Ancient Methods, Crystal Geometry, and The Hacker for his curated event.

Playing with tension, emotions, ÆSTR’s sets are infused with revolt.

Nicki Black’s musical style is heavily influenced by their journey through the Goth and EBM scene of Berlin, which served as a starting point to their exploration of dark and experimental music genres such as Noise, Ambient and Industrial. 

They are now harnessing the essence of these genres and applying it to Dark Techno sets that follow the twists and turns of broken beats.
