This is the biography of Kofyah AKA Remmington Kurankyi.

"Kofyah" is pronounced "KO-FY-AH".

Kofyah means "The Fire of Kofi", "Kofi" being one of his other names.  Kofyah makes gospel and alternative hip-hop music.

In 2000 when Kofyah entered secondary school , he was introduced to rappers Tupac Shakur and The Notorious B.I.G.  These two legendary MCs were his first experiences of hip-hop.  Later on school friends would tell him about Nas, KRS-One, Big Pun, Immortal Technique, Lowkey and So Solid Crew.

Regarding gospel music, Kofyah was introduced to it by his friends, aunties and granny.  His influences are Kirk Franklin, Israel Houghton, Don Moen, Cece Winans and Obaapa Christy.

Kofyah's first memories of music include nursery rhymes and Disney Animation Films such as "The Jungle Book" and "Aristocats".  These two movies introduced him to jazz music and were influenced by jazz.  Nursery rhymes were another early form of poetry that he was introduced to.

During Kofyah's childhood he was introduced to Traditional Chinese music through martial arts movies such as "Drunken Master" and "Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story".  He has always loved the stringed instruments, the bamboo flutes and gongs in that kind of music.

Also as a young boy, Kofyah enjoyed music, maths and science.

Kofyah is London-born and raised. He has lived in SW London his whole life.

During difficult times for Kofyah, music has always been an outlet.  It describes who he is. Music helps Kofyah to express his difficulties in his poetry and rhymes.  His rhymes are expressions of this thoughts and experiences.
