The Low End Theory is a Calgary-based soul jazz project lead by bassist Aaron Scholpp. After having spent nearly four years on the road playing math rock, Scholpp wanted to get back to his musical roots, and play his own music. Scholpp composes most of the material, but the group also performs arrangements of tunes by greats such as James Brown, Feist, Curtis Mayfield and Amy Winehouse.

For the past 25 plus years Mike Prior (Low End Theory) and formally know as “DJ Extreme”, has taken his music to a new level.  From the early days of playing house parties to emerging into the underground scene, he has always been at the forefront of his field pioneering his way forward, while defining his unique sound.  Having been known for his 3 or 4 deck sets, whipping the dance-floor into frenzy by playing the most groundbreaking music has became witnessed and enjoyed by thousands, while building a wide repertoire of fans along the way.


The name reflects his passion and dedication to music lovers abroad. He has been heard numerous times on the radio at various “Live to Air” events as well as internet radio stations including 1groove.com, djshows.com, and currently on djsinthemix.net.  The ability to pilot a set, and steer the crowd into overdrive has lead him to play alongside Mark Oliver, DJ Dan, Addy, Brad Goldfinger, Terry Kelly, Mat C, Jello, Deko-Ze, and The Bassbin Twins.  He has as well headlined at concerts, and festivals for such acts as DJ Jazzy Jeff, and The Rascals, and an extensive array of other Artists/Producers and DJ’s alike. 


Through Mike’s love of great music, the early age of 16 had seen him working at many live events.  From pulling cables during a set-up, or tear down, to running front of house sound, and nightclub installations.  While holding residences at top clubs such as The Guvernment and System Soundbar, His future in the entertainment industry was clear.  Now having being ranked on various DJ ranking sites, such as thedjlist.com helps to continue to rip up dance floors all over wherever he graces the booth.


Not forgetting his continued contribution to educate the listener, Mike has developed great talents as a producer; His diploma in Audio Production & Engineering put his face in many publications such as Klublife, Chart, and Eye Weekly.  On a local setting he’s been a 12 year member of Canada’s highest rated DJ Pool “Spinners”.  Associating with CANCON, CANDANCE and SOCAN, submitting charts and feedback to various labels for print and radio are just a few of the responsibilities and benefits.


Influences such as James Brown, Donna Summer and Depeche Mode are a few of which reflects his sound. Powerful Funky Basslines, Crisp Highs with a strong hook, keep the public wanting more.  As a skilled musician and artist, the past decade of nitelife, and then some, has been devoted to the future release of his debut album, “Sinful Bliss”. A collection of prime-time club anthems, with uplifting build-ups, and driving basslines is soon to be released by the alias of “Low End Theory”. 


2009 saw the release of his first single worldwide.  Low End Theory’s Debut Track “Work It”, went straight to #1 on the Techno Chart, while making it to #10 on the Overall Chart within one week. His Project X label is now being seen by many DJ's and Producers all over the globe and creating quite the buzz.

Lowendcommunity is an Eindhoven based  electronic dance label with its musical focus on futuristic house and techno for the deeper end of the dancefloor. It is also a collaboration between Dimitri van Arnhem (1973) and Ivo Rotteveel(1975).Being both kids from the 70'ies, their youth has always been influenced by great music. At the age of 15, Ivo first set foot on the island of Ibiza and it was then that he made plans to succeed as a DJ. In the year 2000 Dimitri started his own club in his hometown Eindhoven. One night he met Ivo and offered him the opportunity to play a long set. Soon after Ivo became a resident, other promotors and venues started to notice his skills behind the decks and his ability to "read" a crowd. This resulted in a number of gigs both national and International, such as La Rocca (Belgium), Café d' Anvers (Antwerp), Club Risk (Amsterdam), Supperclub (Amsterdam), Home (Budapest), Extrema (Eindhoven), Circoloco (Antwerp) and Blue Marlin (Ibiza). Dimitri has always been the guy "behind the scenes",not trying to attract too much attention. On a production level they seemed to have found eachother, both musically and personally: Ivo, being the "technical" man and Dimitri, as ever, trying to push his creative boundaries.
April 2010 they got noticed by French techno godfather Laurent Garnier, putting their deep track "Waking Up Benirras" on the july playlist of his PBB Online Radioshow. One of 150 tracks: A scenario which definitely reflects their sound...being described as  a deep, melancholic, dramatic, film noir. Recently started their own label: Lowendcommunity, initially releasing productions of artists N.U.D.E., The Low End Theory, Ivo Foreal and Bchannel.
