After a few years of silence, the CCPAR Podcast series is back — and we’re kicking things off with a heavyweight session recorded live at RUST, Birmingham’s frontline for underground electro and techno.

Tony Grainger, aka SBCTZN, has long been provoking experimental air disturbances across Birmingham. From his roots in sound engineering to working at the legendary Tempest Records and international vinyl distributor Integrale Muzique — key to the rise of Birmingham’s techno sound — Subcitizen has lived and breathed the cutting edge.

As a promoter and DJ, his style mutates across heavy dancefloor workouts to subtler, more abstract soundscapes. Always with one intention: glitch, super-editing, and loop-defying experimentation. Whether selecting records or booking artists, Subcitizen embodies a commitment to forward-thinking, genre-splicing sound.

In this live recording, Subcitizen lays down a deep, twisted set true to the spirit of CCPAR: experimental, relentless, and wired for those who seek beyond the obvious.

An affection to vinyl at an early stage is most probably the best precondition to become somebody finally ending up playing those vinyls for people. Somebody with a musical background. Somebody picking the right record at the right time. Somebody serving and educating people at the same time. Somebody being called a DJ. 

This fascination for records, starting in the mid 80's as a collector, and later on in the early 90's as a DJ still is burns with Alex from deep inside. After years of touring th world, from Europe to Australia, Asia to America and back and all over again, and playing at countless clubs and festivals with a complex, digital setup, Alex decided to return to vinyl as a statement and confession to the basic art of Djing. Why? Because he can. And because of the fact that it`s the music that counts. It has to be seleced by the DJ, carefully curated and played on spot. It`s the music which has the impact on the visitors of the club or festival so that their reaction scales the intensity of this particular experience. It ́s the music which is the key element for a good performace and which has to be supported by a good, powerful soundsystem, a fitting surrounding and the technical way it is.

Alexander Meßmer aka Lex Gorecore was born 1984 in Landau (Germany), his first Contact to Electronic-Music was in the 80ties with Novalis, Kraftwerk, Streetmark, NEU!, Amon Düül II, Can, Tangerine Dream, Klaus Schulze...
As little Child is he playing Krautrock & Psychedelic-Rock on a old Vinyl-player and that makes him happy, for him the greatest Thing in Life, the MUSIC ♥
1992 give him his Father as Gift the AFX - Analogue Bubblebath 1 EP and he was infected with the Virus "Techno". He began to collect different Sounds of Techno & Electronic Music.
Year 1999 is he starting DJing and Producing at begin 2011, his Influences are AFX (Aphex Twin), Underground Resistance, Anthony Child & Karl O'Conner, Orphx, Adam X and the Krautrock form the Seventies.
Lex is working most with raw oldschool and asymetrically arranged Beats, he like IDM, EBM, Acid, Glitch, Electro, Experimental, Harsh, Noise & Rhythmic Noise or Doomcore, all in combination with Techno Tracks for making a good Variation in his Mixes, all is raw and noisy working with 4/4 and Offbeats.
