To the Listener,

This song, "Looking Out The Window," is not just music; it’s the sound of a heart standing still while the rest of the world moves on. I wrote it on a rainy day, consumed by that specific, painful ache of missing someone so completely that every shadow and every quiet space is filled by their ghost.

When I started recording, I knew the raw emotion had to be front and center, carried by the mournful intimacy of country folk. The acoustic guitar provides the gentle, reflective rhythm of solitude, while the fiddle's soaring, expressive vibrato becomes the sound of my own loneliness echoing back. That little bit of shimmer from the mandolin? That's the fragile, flickering hope that still hasn't died.

But what truly defined this track, what made it real, was the vulnerability brought by Kathy Trevelyan's voice.

Kathy's voice doesn't just sing the lyrics; she lives the memory. Every break, every catch, every sustained note in the chorus ("Love like ours, I can’t replace") is delivered with a brokenhearted, unvarnished honesty. Her performance transcends mere sadness; it captures the paradoxical strength found in perpetual longing. When she sings the hopeful whisper of the bridge ("You’re my forever, my shining star"), her voice is so delicate it feels like a painful secret shared just between us.

I wrote this song in the beginning of lockdown, but I find that speaks volumes now as well. It's about a bleak world, finding comfort in familial love, and most importantly - hope.
