Welcome to the Loomis-Burrell House, situated at 676 East Main Street. Built in 1832 by Judge Arphaxed Loomis, this Federal style house features a low-pitched roof, smooth façade, and arches over the windows that are typical of this style. Although the house was renovated in 1874 to reflect the Italianate style, the original features still remain noticeable.

Little Falls, New York, once the cheese capital of the world, is now a town filled with rich history on every street. In the nineteenth century, with the introduction of the Erie Canal, the railroad, and the telegraph, the village of Little Falls had become widely known for its quality cheese.

Welcome to the Richard Ray Ward House, located at 721 East Main Street. Built in 1860, this Italianate style house showcases a flat roof that was popular during its time. This design allowed the building to collect water in a cistern on the second floor, which was then used in the house’s gravity-fed plumbing system. Additionally, the long porch, wide eaves, and decorative molding are characteristic of the Italianate style.

Little Falls, like most cities and towns built along New York’s rivers, relies heavily on their waters. Without the Mohawk River, the history of Little Falls would have been drastically different. The Mohawk River is the largest tributary of the Hudson, flowing over 149 miles, and going straight through Little Falls.

When European settlers came to the Mohawk Valley in the 1700s, most followed Protestant teachings, and there were few Catholics in the area. The first large influx of Catholic settlers in Little Falls came to the area because of the opportunities presented by the construction of the Erie Canal.

St. Mary’s Church and Holy Family Parish

Along the former and present railroad tracks which run parallel to the Mohawk River are two stone crusher buildings, each built in 1906. The first stone crusher, located on the opposite side of the river, was constructed by The John Pierce Stone Company north of the Mohawk River.

The Taylor Driving Park was a bustling and popular attraction that offered a variety of entertainment options for visitors. Situated southwest of Little Falls between the Erie Canal and the Mohawk River, it is approximately a half mile walk Southward on the bike trail to the Carver Creek bridge.  From the bridge Taylor Driving Park sits 300 yards North-West from this spot.

The Little Falls War Memorial, featuring artwork made by local artist Marc Verri, stands at the former site of the Honor Roll Monument. The monument was dedicated in 2010 honoring all Little Falls military veterans who served their country from World War I to the present.
