Bass Coast 2019 Set

Our first LiT MIX of 2020 is coming in hot from India via the don of Twerkistan himself, Su Real! Fresh from lighting up Goa Sunsplash festival this month with fire tracks from his latest album Visa On Arrival, our dude from New Delhi has delivered a truly epic 100+ minute set for Light Twerkerz. 

Featuring 60+ tracks highlighting the connections between Bollywood and underground Desi bass flavours cross-pollinating with the world of dancehall, reggaeton and trap music. All hail the global booty ambassador! Full tracklisting and DJ interview via link below. In his own words:   

"In my live sets, I always go all over the place in terms of styles,
genres and bpm’s. But when it comes to dropping that booty low, I’m
particularly attached to this 100-110bpm zone, with dancehall,
reggaeton, twerk, hip hop and  moombahton, i can go for hours… It
really is the foundation of pop music today I think, and yet it’s this
really fertile space where numerous genres and underground styles from around the world can converge… all to bless dat booty!

In this mix I tried to represent the dancehall scene in India and the
current Desi Bass sound, itself part sponge, part 4-D printer. There’s
a lot of my favorite tracks by vocalists and producers from across the
desi diaspora, mainstream to the underground - A.R. Rahman, Sidhu
Moose Wala, Badshah, Zack Knight, Jay Sean, Jasmine Sandlas, Akasa,
Vayu, Aastha Gill, Zaeden, Sama Blake, Mojojojo, SOOHAN, Flipsyd,
among others. There’s a bunch of my original tracks (especially from
my new album Visa On Arrival) and remixes/bootlegs as well.

Early in the mix, there’s a few tracks like “Overload” by Ape Drums
and “Panjabi Wine” by BrainDead that are definitely 2 of a handful
tracks with Indian/eastern flavors created by international non-desi
producers and samples that got hella rinsed in the early days of Desi
Bass and actually really introduced a lot of young producers and
clubbers in India to Dancehall… that is, before Major Lazer really
exploded. Now, in a post-“Lean On” India, it’s reached the point where
Dancehall and twerking have made it into Bollywood, with songs like
“Beat Pe Booty” and Zack Knight’s “Bom Diggy”.

The influence can also be felt in mainstream pop in India as well,
like with Jasmine Sandlas & Garry Sandhu’s untouchable “Illegal
Weapon” and the iconic desi hip hop superstar Badshah’s “She Move It
Like”. In India, we have a perfect marriage between Dancehall and
Reggaeton, as exemplified by desi house music don Zaeden’s revival of
a classic dancehall track by Rupee, a soca musician from Barbados.

So it was hella fun to work on this mix, because there’s a lot of
stuff i don’t get to play in regular sets at clubs and festivals in
India, but also a lot of firestarters I drop every time to light it
up! Also, getting ready for Goa Sunsplash festival in January 2020,
that’s organized by my friends Reggae Rajahs and 10,000 Lions
Soundsystem and extended community of lovers
reggae/dub/dancehall/bass-related genres. WIth every selection and cut
tho, I just kept thinking, what and I do that would make the
Lighttwerkerz fam go absolutely wild, and wave them booties higher?!"
