LiT MIX 027 is a dynamic rollercoaster of a drum & bass set from DJ Bungzo of Bristol’s BootybassDJs crew. With a real ear for melody and momentum for the derriere, we love how they bounce us between dancehall-infused modern jungle and soulful/r’n’b-flavoured footwork. 

We're also stoked to announce this mix kicks off an ongoing LiT MIX showcase of Bristol’s vibrant multi-genre DJ squad the BootyBassDJs. With members representing for greater cultural inclusion within the spectrum of gender, race and sexuality; while playing booty-shaking sounds of all genres, pace and sensibility, the crew is stacked with tastemaking party-starter selectors Bungzo, Ngaio, Hannza, Devolicious, Adibah, Boz, Xylo & Fabienne. If you’re lucky enough to catch this crew throw down live, do not miss the infectious energy and incredible music! 

We are honoured now during Pride month (which we celebrate all year) to feature this wicked dnb set from Bungzo who is such a fierce advocate for stronger LGBTQ+ involvement and respect in the drum and bass community specifically. Yes selecta! There is such strong tension and release in this set, it really feels like a soundtrack for the summer of dancing together again.

LiT MIX 027 :: BUNGZO ::

Our 2nd featured Lit Mix from Bristol’s BootybassDJs is by Hannza, who has woven a wickedly-paced 90 minutes with heavyweight bangers from dancehall and hip hop to house and drum and bass. Laced with cheeky edits and mixes of rap, rave, UK, afro and global bass the genres may change but the attitude remains absolutely massive throughout. 

Algorithms attempt predicting our playlist tastes, but it takes a masterful DJ to intuitively craft a set like this. The cuts are confident, and selections are seamlessly blended from M.I.A. to Missy and Aaliyah, with a bevvy of Bristol productions from the likes of Lamont, Sam Binga and DJ Die to name but a few. Nineties nostalgia meets millennium madness and 2020s future vibes and we love it!

This summer has been a suspenseful stop and go, return and retreat from dance parties during these waves of pandemic public health mandates, so count yourselves fortunate if you’ve been able to catch Hannza DJing IRL, smashing it at Lakota Bristol festival Summer of Love with Shade Cartel or with Tash LC at Lost Horizon.

Fitting innit that we send off 2021 and welcome 2022 with LiT MiX 029 from BootyBassDJs founder Ngaio— This powerhouse creative force catalyzed our ongoing music exchange with her Bristol-based crew, which has kept us dancing all year. She is a host on Swu.fm, has released music on Durkle Disco and Archway UK, works as an inclusion consultant, is musical director of Bristol’s Bass Choir, and currently producing a Netflix documentary. Go on then!

With voice bodacious and selections outrageous, Ngaio’s LiT MiX features her original vocals and productions amidst blends on blends  that just don’t stop ramping up the energy. Her signature sound is a refined ratchet romp through the global booty shaking underground, from UK bass music to Afro-Caribbean diasporic dancefloor detonators. This mix has everything from dancehall and soca, baile funk, UKG, dnb, afrobeats, moombahton, and all manner of genre-defying mashup bangers. HNY 2022!!!

Pt. 2 of this month’s LiT MiX double feature on Vancouver’s Audio Social crew features emerging producer/DJ/promoter Destrata. A brewer by day, Destrata is sure to make the dancefloor bubble by night! 

Chugging through bouncy syncopated mutations of leftfield UK Bass music and Afro-Latin infused techno, this genre-blurring set includes his own original tracks amidst aesthetically adjacent established and emerging producers. 

Having released his debut E.P. on Denmark’s Indexlife in 2021, and a track on mentor Martyn’s 3024 label, Destrata’s first release of 2022 is with partner Garneau as the dynamic electro breaks duo Energy Boyz, whose E.P. “Energize” is out this week on Finland’s Tob Billin’ Label. Stay tuned to Audio Social for events and mix series curated by Destrata alongside Lil Cis, Handsome Tiger, and Thuja.

My latest creation "Dope" was made using sound design I've been working on, I've tried to implement minimal style synths and stabs but with a heavy-weight roller sub and Reece bass to keep the momentum. I complemented it with some old school vocal samples from the movie Reefer Madness for a bit of fun. Enjoy!
