This recording showcases Jamal's unique Jazz style. Bass and drum grooves with vamping on the piano, in a charismatic sparse style and enticing syncopation and beat. At least 20 years ahead of its time - Bronk O.

Jamie Woon is one of these artists which suprised us over and over again with his voice and music. Remixes with Burial, tracks like 'Night Air' or 'Lady Luck' just blow us away. Jamie has a big spectrum of musical possibilities and use them as he like to use it. You simply can see and hear his love for music. 

We did this track and decided to add some voice snippets from him, so we get the deepness we want. The track is called 'spirits', which is a really stunning interpretation by Jamie. 

We hope you'll like it as we enjoy to produce this little thing and be sure to check out his forthcoming album "Mirrorwriting".

i first saw P-Funk in 1995, and watching Micheal Hampton play the solo on Maggot Brain blew my mind. i thought, "that's what i wanna do!" and i finally got to play the song with the funk mob at the House of Blues a few years ago and it made me cry, it was such a powerful experience for me. in fact i cried every time i played or heard it, and i kept playing it with P-Funk on the road and ended up creating an arrangement of it with Double G, the mastermind of the DaKah Hip Hop Orchestra. we performed it at Disney Hall and the Hollywood Bowl before we recorded it at Capitol Records studio, where Frank Sinatra and the Beatles recorded. the recording was funded by the great activist and entertainment guru Norman Lear, who upon hearing it at Disney Hall offered to help me, no strings attached (and no pun intended). when i got to make "Place Between Places" i just knew Maggot Brain had to be on. it's been covered by Jeff Beck, Santana, Mike Watt, Buckethead, to name a few guitar heroes, but i feel it in my way, and i'm so glad i finally get to share it on this record.

This is the original unmixed/mastered version of one of the pieces of music I created for Isis Vision's performance at Burning Man this past summer, this track was created for the Tribal choreographed ensemble piece.  This was my first draft version, the idea framework and musical arrangement I created, before going into group collaborations, and even though I like the final version as well, I am still quite fond of this original piece of Imagikal Isis flow!

STRING QUARTET NO. 2--MONTALVO was conceived while I was on a hike in the woods above Villa Montalvo in NorCal.  The majority of the piece was completed while I was in residence at the Lucas Arts Program during July of 2008.  This type of residency was incredibly valuable.  

At the time, I was immersed in a very urban environment in L.A., and had been for several years.  The opportunity to live in an environment where silence and space were the norm (and oxygen was abundant) provided a momentary shift in my perception of the world, and my response to that world.  The end result was an openness and interest towards nature that expressed itself unexpectedly in music.

This mix gave me fits. I did take after take after take. I originally had it opening up with the Original Chic Mix of Diana Ross's "I'm Coming Out" but after hearing that song 20 time I was getting frustrated and mad and took it out. Because even though the Chic Mix is better than the version we always hear, it's still "I'm Coming Out".

After I did that I made it through the mix from beginning to end for the first time and from what I could tell, it sounded great! I went to save it and the computer I use to record crashed in the middle of the save. I fought every urge to break something and went to bed.

I recorded it again the next day and this is the result of that recording. There are some incredible covers, remixes, re-edits and whatnot in this mix. John Morales's new release, The M+M Mixes, is represented by two songs in this mix, The Blackbyrds' "Rock Creek Park (M+M Retouch)" and Loose Joints' "Is It All Over My Face". 

The two amazing covers are Mayer Hawthorne teaming up with Detroit guitar god, Dennis Coffy to cover Parliment's "All Your Goodies Are Gone". This song was just all types of Michigan amazing. Then there's Salome De Bahia's "Outro Lugar" which is a Brazilian Portuguese version of Stevie Wonder's "Another Star".

 In the re-edit department we And Daniel's edit of Bunny Mack's "Let Me Love You", and I get a little re-edit action. I heard DJ Nutritious play a re-edit of The Rolling Stones' 12" version of "Miss You". I LOVED it! It was so simple but it made you look at the song differently. So I completely imitated it. I hope he doesn't mind.

In P-Funk (Wants To Get Funked Up), Parliament tells us, "If you got faults, defects or shortcomings you know, like arthritis, rheumatism or migraines.
Whatever part of your body it is, I want you to lay it on your radio.
Let the vibes flow through, funk not only moves, it can remove, dig?"

It is well known that there are healing properties in music. Some good dancing funk like this always makes me feel better. There is a fine line between funk and disco. Pulling that Diana Ross song made this a funk mix. But it's still close to the boarder line. Not that there is anything wrong with some good disco. It's just that all of the best disco was actually funk. 

Oh and I worked a Grateful Dead song into the set in hopes that my friend Rhiannon will finally listen to one of my mixes.
