V prvním díle Future Forms si poslechneme záznam skvělého koncertu hudebnice mʊdʌki, která tvoří obrovskou škálu hrozně zajímavé hudby od industriálního techna přes všechny formy bass music až po sound art a elektroakustickou hudbu s použitím cimbálu. Taky se angažuje v ústeckém kolektivu phonon, který se zaměřuje na pořádání kvadrofonních experimentálních hudebních akcí, ale i ravů v Ústí nad Labem, Praze, ale i jinde po Evropě.
Koncert se odehrál v květnu v dejvické kavárně Potrvá k příležitosti křestu dokonce dvou nových alb mʊdʌki – studiovky The Labyrinth a herního soundtracku Speculare. Obě vyšly na labelu Stoned to Death a můžete si je poslechnout na jejich Bandcampu. Desky vycházejí z až oldschoolové hardwarové elektroniky, která ale maximálně využívá zvukových možností toho hardwaru a tvoří s ním temné hypnotické krajiny nasáklé industriálem, rozbíjené polyrytmickými explozemi a v něčem hodně připomínající Aphex Twin a jeho Selected Ambient Works vol. 2. Do živého provedení tuhle atmosféru mʊdʌki přenesla skrz právě čistě hardwarový setup.

The first volume of Future Forms introduces a recording of an amazing live show from mʊdʌki, who produces a wide palette of very intriguing music, ranging from industrial techno through all kinds of bass music to sound art or electroacoustic music incorporating a dulcimer. Beside that, she has been taking part in the activities of the phonon collective from Ústí nad Labem, which focuses on organizing experimental quadraphonic events and raves in Ústí, Prague, or other places all around Europe.
The concert took place last May in the Potrvá café in Dejvice, Prague to celebrate the release of two fresh mʊdʌki records – the studio album The Labyrinth and the game soundtrack Speculare. You can listen to both of them on the Bandcamp page of the label they were released under, Stoned to Death. The sound of both the albums draws from old school hardware electronic music – however, it pushes the hardware and its sonic capabilities to their limits, and uses them to create dark hypnotic sceneries soaked in industrial rawness, then deconstructed by polyrhythmic explosions. Certain moments remind of Aphex Twin’s Selected Ambient Works vol. 2. mʊdʌki managed to translate this atmosphere to the live setting using a strictly hardware setup.

This volume of Future Forms presents a recording of two brilliant live shows which took place at a space named úl, located at Prague’s Ďáblice panel housing estate. The event was put together by Antimother, a micro-label and promoter group that blossomed from the scene around Punctum, the Prague-Žižkov go-to club for experimental music. However, recently they’ve been discovering rather unknown, but even more interesting venues for their concerts. And I have to say that he rather unknown, but even more interesting line-up of the event this time worked suprisingly naturally and well in the improvised „concert hall” inside of the former panel housing estate standardized shopping centre.
Lai Tsung-Yun and Huang Ya-Nung, who come from Taiwan, played an electroacoustic show that screamed „telepathy”. It was hard to tell what was rehearsed and what was improvised. While Lai, the curator and organizator of Taiwanese sound art festival Lacking Sound, works mostly inside the boundaries of electronic music influenced by IDM and noise, the multidisciplinary artist Huang plays a spectacular collection of traditional instruments including not only several flutes and double reed woodwinds from Taiwan and China, but also jew’s harps from Cambodia and Russia. Those are recorded with a microphone connected to her hand the entire time of the performance, and their sound is electronically edited by Lai in real time. The result is dark, anxious, brutally intense music for confined spaces. It is full of contrast and emotional upheaval. Some passages may remind you of the Indonesian Gabber Modus Operandi, just to fall apart when you expect it the least.
With the antithesis to their set, White Wigwam, who is a Czech producer and a permanent collaborator of Antimother, took care of the opening slot. However, you will hear the recording of his show in the second half of Future Forms. The typical White Wigwam show consists of two main ingredients – a modular synth and Moog Grandmother. With their help he’s building strictly controlled sequences, which are slowly and hypnotically developing during a relatively short time slots. This 25-minute-long set is one of his longer ones. Don’t overdo it with the good stuff!

V tomto díle Future Forms uslyšíte nahrávku live setu od slovenského multiinstrumentalisty a producenta jménem Samo Benko. Jeho tvorba sahá od těžce squarepusherovského junglového a drill’n’basového zvuku až po jazz a všechno mezi tím. Na Slovensku se podílí na eventech Hluch a společně se spřáteleným producentem kodikim tvoří uskupení Sila Hudby.
Samův live set byl nahrán na open air koncertu, který se odehrál v srpnu 2024 v litevském Vilniusu. Uslyšíte kromě již zmiňovaných vlivů (a neskutečného remixu Squarepusherova legendárního tracku My Red Hot Car) i Samovy atmosferičtější, ambientnější polohy a dalších asi 753 subžánrů elektronické hudby z budoucnosti, tedy přesně tak, jak to máme rádi.

In this episode of Future Forms you are presented with a live set recording from a Slovak multi-instrumentalist and producer named Samo Benko. His work spans from heavily Squarepusher-influenced jungle and drill and bass sound to jazz and through everything in between. In Slovakia, he’s co-organizing events under the „Hluch” (Deafness) brand, and together with another producer kodiki they form a duo named „Sila Hudby” (The Power of Music).
Samo’s live set was recorded at an open-air gig, which took place in Vilnius, Lithuania in August 2024. Besides the genres and influences mentioned above (and an impossibly banging remix of Squarepusher’s legendary My Red Hot Car), you will also hear Samo’s more atmospheric, ambient side, and approximately 753 more subgenres of electronic music from the future – just the way we love it.
