We’re joined by language entrepreneur Marcus Carter in this episode of LMScast where he shares how he has found success through his online course website teaching English to Spanish speakers. Marcus shares his story of teaching in-person classes to going online and marketing on platforms like TikTok.
 
Growing up in the UK, Spain is the place his family went on holiday, and that’s where Marcus ended up deciding to settle as an adult and where he met his wife. Marcus has worked as a teacher for many years teaching people of all ages language learning skills.
 
One of the largest obstacles he noticed was the different way students learn languages and the materials available to them at different levels. And that’s where he dove deep into language learning methodologies and how he could facilitate learning the fastest. He eventually developed his own language learning method that he currently teaches live on Zoom and in his online courses.
 
Marcus does a lot of marketing work on TikTok and Instagram Live. Getting TikTok users and Instagram users who are interested in learning English, he’s able to funnel them to his Telegram group where he markets his course offerings.

335: [Free Training] How to Quickly Create, Sell, and Validate Your Online Course in 2 Hours

We’re joined by Katie Keith from Barn2 Plugins, and she shares how you can create a document library in WordPress in this episode of the LMScast podcast hosted by Chris Badgett from LifterLMS.

Katie shares the story behind Document Library Pro and what the inspiration for that product was. At Barn2 they developed a way to show WooCommerce products (and any post in WordPress) in a table format that’s searchable for users. But it didn’t work well for documents, just post types. So they ended up building a product dedicated to documents that looks like and works just like their product Post Tables Pro, but for documents such as PDF, video, or audio files.

Barn2.com has a bunch of really great WooCommerce plugins, as well as some table related plugins, which Chris and Katie are going to get into and talk about what all that means in this episode. 336: How to Create a Document Library in WordPress with Katie Keith from Barn2 Plugins

We’re joined by Cristian Raiber in this episode of the LMScast podcast hosted by Chris Badgett from LifterLMS. Crisitian shares his story of transitioning his WordPress agency business into a theme and plugin development business where he offers many products for WordPress users. We have many members in the audience and our community who run freelance WordPress practices and agencies, so this episode is a great story about how you can grow into a plugin development shop if you’re currently a freelancer or agency interested in going down that path in the WordPress space.
 
Cristian thought he knew theme development inside and out working as an agency, since he was building themes for about five years. When he submitted his theme to the WordPress repository, he submitted another 63 updates because that's how many issues he could spot in his code. That's how many things were wrong according to the WordPress guidelines. Once it got approved into the WordPress repository, he made serious money starting off on day one, with the first month at about $15K.
 
After a drop off in their sales with high competition in the theme space over the past few years, Cristian and his team at WPChill are now 100% focused on plugin development. They still maintain two theme shops from back in the day and still offer updates and support for those clients who want to continue using those themes. But focusing on niche plugin development to solve problems brought up in the community has been a way for them to stay afloat in the space and grow their business.

337: Transitioning a WordPress Agency to a Theme Business and Later to a Multi Plugin Business

We’re joined by special guest Daniel Vargas in this episode of the LMScast podcast hosted by Chris Badgett from LifterLMS. Daniel and Chris talk about how Daniel works with members of the LifterLMS community to build academy websites for their customers with advanced marketing and CRM integrations.

Daniel started Laboratorio de Éxito after the pandemic started in 2020. Then one day Daniel worked on a referral job helping someone in the real estate world sell her training courses. At the time, Daniel had an academy that he was building with LifterLMS and Keap, after many trials of many tools, so he knew exactly where to start on her project to get her training courses sold.

After many other site building referral projects, Daniel decided to create Laboratorio de Éxito to help people create momentum and based on the momentum that they create, to scale their businesses. Daniel emphasizes the importance of integrating with a CRM tool, in his case, Keap. 

The main part of Daniel’s business now is building marketing strategies for customers. One of the resources he provides is recording calls with his customers around marketing and selling their products, and he has those calls available for the rest of his customers to build that sense of community and educate by answering questions people really ask.

339: How to Create a Mobile App for Courses and Membership Sites with Juliana Meyer from SupaPass

We’re joined by Jono Petrohilos in this episode of the LMScast podcast where he shares how he found success with his personal training business and transitioned that into a successful online course platform.
 
Jono used to be a fitness trainer, and he ran a face-to-face bootcamp working at a franchise. When he started out, he was ranked as the worst in his franchise organization. He attended other trainers' workshops, took courses, read books, and did everything he could to work his way up to the top in his franchise, and eventually opened up another location. After seeing others successful with courses, he built his first course called How to Run a Successful Bootcamp.
 
In 2014 his course platform started focusing on online trainers and not just individuals who wanted to get fit, and in 2018 he grew that to about a million dollar a year business. That’s when he started to get over the fitness side a little bit, as he was no longer running the bootcamps and was spending all his time online working with funnels in sales and marketing. Jono’s passion shifted from fitness to online course creation and promotion.

He shares insights into what needs to happen in order to generate sales in the current economy and time.
 
When it comes to success in sales, 80% of the campaign comes down to whether you’re matching the right person with the right offer in an offer that’s so good for their situation that they'd be stupid not to take it. That's 80% of the success of a selling or marketing campaign. The other 20% are aspects like your persuasion skills, your copy skills, the frosting on the cupcake, communication, and messaging. One of the largest mistakes we see is having the wrong offer in front of the wrong person will always leave you asking, "What happened?" That's the highest level as far as what to think about before you do any kind of sales or marketing campaign.

If you’re doing live/online events that time or format can change, but having general inconsistency will often end up with high community churn.

Advertising expert Liana Ling joins us in this LMScast episode to discuss ideas for how to market your online course and scale with Facebook ads. Liana is from Power Up Strategy, where she helps empower business owners to get as many clients or customers as their hearts desire.
 
Liana understands the overwhelm many entrepreneurs feel, and she’s really big on repurposing content. If you create something once, use that content as many times as you can, and do it intentionally. For example, if you record a podcast, take the transcript and summarize it into a blog post. Cut portions of the podcast into short videos to put on Facebook Reels, Instagram Reels, TikTok, and Pinterest. Put the full video onto your YouTube channel and on LinkedIn. And you can also use software to push these out and to schedule them ahead of time. And you can take quotes and soundbites and make images with the quotes on them and put those all over the place.

The most resilient and most sustainable type of the funnels that Liana has worked with are the ones starting with freebies to build up your audience, and then selling to them through your emails on the back end. Liana’s advice is to just jump in, test, and have fun. Show your joy. It comes through, and people will respond to it.

In this episode of the LMScast podcast, we’re joined by Facebook Ads expert Shelby Fowler where she shares how online course creators can leverage outbound Facebook ads in their businesses in order to get more cold traffic to their websites.
 
The top mistake people make with Facebook ads is not spending enough money, especially if you are doing your own ads, and you don't have a background of advertising.
 
Shelby shares a great example that if you have a webinar or a presentation, a masterclass or a five day challenge, and your running ads right now, the average cost per registration is probably somewhere between $8 and $12.
 
The second common mistake is that the creative on the ads is not great. A lot of ads are just not catchy enough. Many people are constantly consuming content on Instagram and Facebook, and everybody is vying for your ideal client's attention. When creating ads, it’s important to understand that there are other people running ads and in addition to that, their family members are posting, their friends are posting, and celebrities are posting to get their attention.
