Almost every musician wants to make a record no one expects from them, and yet few working bands bottle this wanderlust in a way that both carries who they have been while staying true to their destination. Nicolay (from Grammy-nominated duo The Foreign Exchange) once again combines forces with jazz trio The Hot At Nights - Chris Boerner, Matt Douglas, and Nick Baglio - for another musical exploration since their 2012 tour of Shibuya Session EP. “Now The Coast Is Clear” captures all of the lessons of a band that has spent years expanding in experience, all while maintaining voracious appetites for new sounds, deeper style palates, and denser stories. You can hear influences from both sides of the aisle informing this track: the subtle jam heave of their Three Kids album (itself an amalgam of genre bends), flashes of all three of Nicolay’s City Lights sessions, the vast headspace of years of road life…it all simmers in this song. In a time when it’s easy to sink into the negativity of political malaise and nearly global despair, this single leans hard into contemplative hope, and the album that follows will surely stand as a testimony of necessary change to come. Zebbler Encanti Experience & Of The Trees - Let Me In [PREMIERE]

To celebrate the summer solstice we are incredibly excited to present Ñuka Shunku, the debut EP by Ecuadorian singer-songwriter Huaira.

Based in Quito, Huaira is one of the leading names in the emerging Ecuadorian scene of young musicians and producers seeking inspiration in the country’s folklore and reimagining what it could sound like in the 21st century. Huaira’s name first received global recognition for her collaboration with Nicola Cruz on his track Colibria, from his debut album Prender el alma but on this EP her own talent as a songwriter shines with four beautiful tracks inspired by the incredible nature around her and Ecuador’s rich ancestral roots.

On Ñuka Shunku, which means “I am pure heart” in quechua, Huaira shares a sound that seems to embody Ecuador’s incredible landscapes -  the lush rainforest, the soaring mountains and the stunning beauty of her country. She presents a new, deeper, more spiritual aspect to the organic-electronic scene, as if drawing her own voice and lyrics from the earth or madre tierra itself. In her own words:

“It is sharing a message that comes from the earth itself, from the ancestors. Tangible ideas that materialise in music to inspire, celebrate and share the roots of our untameable America, a continent that never stops to remind us of something we often forget: we live in a paradise.”

On this EP Huaira worked with three of the biggest talents from Ecuador’s new wave of folk musicians, brothers Pablo and Julio Vicencio (sons of legendary Ecuadorian folk musician Mauricio Vicencio), and guitarist Diego Illescas. An example of the collaborative nature of the global scene, Ñuka Shunku also features collaborations with fellow artists exploring the meeting of folk or roots music with electronica Rodrigo Gallardo, and El Búho alongside Alejandra Ortiz from the duo Minük.

Huaira and her band will be on tour in Europe this summer playing in seven cities and sharing their show in places like Fusion Festival in Germany, amongst others.

Shika Shika is a collective without owners for music without borders and over its two years of existence has created a platform for artists all over the world to explore the versatility and richness of organic sounds or folkloric music through the lens of new technologies and electronic production.

For over 15 years Bluetech (aka Evan Marc) has been making some of the most interesting and vibrant electronic music around. With near perfect production chops and a deep knowledge and execution of music theory, Bluetech has covered IDM, ambient, house/techno and more. He also works with Android Jones on Microdose - a potent video/audio phantasmagoria and is an accomplished digital artist that obsesses over plants daily. His exclusive DJ set for FWD.DJ is a well executed and colorful journey of slow mutant house and various melodic excursions that is a real treat to take in.

Knautic's (@johntennant) debut on @randomcollectivecr is two original tracks of the highest originality. Dark tinges, laced with a quirky edge and shuffle, and a contemplative patience about them. Every last detail has been put and placed with intent, to be appreciated for eternity. 

Remixing these beauties was a tall order. So we enlisted 2 capable parties, Random's own @funka picked up the pace straight to the mid tempo dance floor with a driving bass line and colourful use of the original samples, spoiler, there's a killer jazzy breakdown. 

Finally Kusht came in heavy, with an absolute smashing remix of Redemption. Its a trip, it hits hard, right where the club crew like it.
