Toy Tonics head honcho Kapote teamed up with the label’s Italian disco king Sam Ruffillo to make a Latin House EP for the summer. Three tracks that fit great with the new wave of latino beats invading the house dance floors this summer. The short versions of these songs might work well on radios, but the long versions are pure DJ and dancer’s fun. The two guys are probably Toy Tonics main DJ duo now. They have been DJing every weekend of the last year in some of the best clubs in Europe. They are residents at Panorama Bar Berlin now and have been invited to share the same stage as Kaytranda and Jessie Ware at Sonar Festival 2024. And they have the right music for this summer. Latin House!

After years of dominance of Afro House, the grooves of South America seem to become the new thing in many DJs sets. The influences from Salsa, Boogaloo and other tropical elements, the hard Latin piano riffs connected with cowbells and a lot of conga grooves were already there last summer. But now it's the time they take over many dance floors. 

On this EP Sam Ruffillo and Kapote played all instruments themself. No samples. Instead pianos, basses, percussion, and guitars were played by the guys. Vocals also performed by the boys. This stuff is made to sing along. The rhythms and the chords catch you immediately. The melodies make you join the „band“. 

People who know Toy Tonics and the guys well, know that the both come from „real“ music-making. The guys have been playing in bands, doing jazz and funk music, before becoming dance producers and DJs. And now they combine all these skills and turn it into musically super catchy dance tracks. 

Latin house is a thing now. And Sam & Kapote have the grooves for it.

Up next on Brooklyn’s Scissor & Thread is the latest EP from @Snad, aka Shyam Anand (also known as Spandrel), the Berlin-based artist whose discography already spans labels like Smallville, Minibar, 20:20 Vision, Phonica AM, TerraFirm, Running Back, Cabinet, Kimochi and Dungeon Meat with remixes for names including Seafoam and Chez Damier. 

A trusted selector and producer in the underground, Snad has steadily built a reputation for deeply considered productions that balance classic inspiration with his own forward-thinking edge.

The AM Yard EP opens with its title track, a warm, hazy cut rooted in the kind of bassline architecture that recalls Chez n Trent’s Morning Factory but reshaped with Snad’s signature dreamlike touch. 

Anticip8 fanchors the release with a more direct energy, rolling, insistent and focused on the floor, balancing stripped-down drive of dusty samples wrung through his digitakt with just enough harmonic flourish to pull the listener inward. 

On the flip, The Pursuit follows in a slightly different mode, drawing on experimental vocoder techniques and filtered percussion creating a hypnotic push-and-pull that feels as intricate as it is understated.

Rounding things out, label heads Francis Harris and Anthony Collins, under their Frank & Tony alias, reimagine The Pursuit with their Housebeat Remix, extending its atmospherics into an even deeper headspace that glides effortlessly into late-night territory.

BAILLIE joins us over on Deep Site with a sublime original coupled with three stellar remixes. Her Love is a melodic sunset tune rife with harmonious synths, floating pads, and a sweet vocal refrain. Treat Vadio's remix continues with the Summer vibes utilizing deep chords, spacey pads, bongos, wrapped around an acid-house feel. Manuel Kane Remix recapitulates the main vocal while adding synth stabs, and percussive sensibilities in bouncy rhythms. Tojami Sessions Remix takes on a more tech-orientated approach with its cyclic patterns, tropical and beautiful vintage synth patches.

From early breakout hit "Phat Dope Shit" in 2002 to "Heavy Heart", a new collaboration with Skrillex and Fireboy DML, Dice has always been in the headlines. After his debut album "7 Dunham Place" on his own now long-running and well-regarded Desolat in 2008, came the major label follow-up "Underground Sound Suicide" on Ultra Music with guests like Giggs, Just Blaze, and Neneh Cherry, then the agenda-setting and club-focussed house and techno showcase that was "Love Letters" in 2018. 

Add in tens of EPs on Ovum, Minus, Cocoon, to name a few, and his remixes from everyone from Kevin Saunderson to Moby, Black Coffee to Disclosure, Warren G to Basement Jaxx, Loco Dice has always been at the beating heart of the electronic scene. 

His DJ sets, too, always brim with personality, whether in a small underground basement or on an iconic main stage at some of the world's top festivals like EDC Ultra, Tomorrowland and Coachella to name a few, playing to thousands. He has had era-defining residencies at iconic Ibiza super clubs like Circoloco at DC-10 and on the Amnesia Terrace as well at Space Miami. 

His lockdown move has been to unveil En Coleur, a label reserved exclusively for his own music produced at that time. SB Recordings followed. A new label open to all styles of dance music.

Since day one Loco Dice constantly pushes the boundaries of techno and house music production, from his appearance in 2004 PlayStation2 game "Decks & FX" to cooking up his own ideal fusions of hip hop and electronic music with his FKD side project or writing critically acclaimed runway soundtracks for Italian fashion designer Marcelo Burlon during Men’s Fashion Week in Milan for both FW20 and SS20.

Dice's distinctive fashion sense and strong visual aesthetic manifest in his collaborations with Amsterdam fashion label Daily Paper, pro sports hat purveyors New Era and in his own clothing brand Seran Bendecidos. 

All of this and his longevity prove that Loco Dice is undoubtedly an insatiable creative force most interested in the uncharted territory between genres and styles, the elements that link everything together.
