At the end of every major arc, I allow myself to nerd out.
The process of projecting a label comes with more restraints & boundaries than I imagined in the beginning.
Being quiet for guests, making music to sound “cool”, not posting often & staying engaged online is taxing.

For pieces like Save the Princess & Lab 801, I allow myself to use the sounds & composition techniques that don’t get expressed in the grander arc.

I found old compositions & rearranged them into Lab 801 with motifs from this season ii arc, Blue Phoenix.
The Ancient Wolf and the Primate was written in 2014.

Midi is infinitely flexible yet incredibly stable.
High variants & minimal amplitude of expression; midi is a fun & exhausting tool to experiment with in my production sound kit.

This piece, Lab 801, is the credits reel to the EP, Free Radicals. Essentially, the lab that houses the "techs" (characters) in the EP slides.
The signature motif of this arc is the sound of snare!  I have mentioned in the arc’s podcasts that adding snare to anything sends it upward.

I recorded this mix because I wanted to play one song in particular. I built a 30-plus-song playlist around it and, as usual, hit record with no plan in mind. what followed was a showcase of some of my favorite things: pounding beats and clattering percussion, squiggling/guttural synths and EBM-/acid-laced grooves, the through line between aggression and longing.

then I had to rerecord it because I played too loud (I blame recently seeing DJ Stingray blow out speakers three songs into his set). anyway, some blends ended up longer, some shorter, but it's as fried as ever.
