Building a Team

“Ships” is the debut single from the LA-based duo, LightHouse. The duo consists of Katya Richardson and Logan Nelson who are both trained as classical composers. Combining both cinematic acoustic sounds and synth-based textures, LightHouse puts a unique spin on modern, electronic pop. “Ships” incorporates dark, ambient tones with electronic, techy sounds, creating a musical metaphor that represents a full journey from beginning to end.

     “Ships” is a notable introduction to LightHouse. Their artistic ventures see them continuing to push boundaries and combining the two worlds of cinematic music and electronic pop. They plan on releasing an EP which will include extensive collaboration with featured artists and instrumentalists, as well as a multidisciplinary music video with other innovators from several artistic disciplines.

“Lost & Found” is the second single from the LA-based duo, LightHouse. The duo consists of Katya Richardson and Logan Nelson who are both trained as classical composers. The new single is a collaboration with neo-soul singer, songwriter Moira Mack who just recently worked with Wyclef Jean. “Lost & Found” incorporates soft, ambient tones with melodic piano and cello sounds that are a perfect complement to Moira’s soulful voice.

LightHouse’s artistic ventures see them continuing to push boundaries and combining the two worlds of cinematic music and pop. They plan on releasing an EP which will include extensive collaboration with featured artists and instrumentalists, as well as a multidisciplinary music video with other innovators from several artistic disciplines.

Lost & Found

Given our shared love of bank heist films, as a synth-pop duo, it was inevitable that we write ourselves into a song about partners in crime. On the surface, Bonnie & Clyde is yet another dynamic duo story, but like any good criminals, much of the mystery to the track is that we never know the exact details of their crime. A feminine edge, largely inspired by the film, “Molly’s Game” (2017), focuses on the quintessential “Bonnie” character in the chorus. As an audience, we are seduced by her successes - having no choice but to follow her “everywhere she goes.”

In Nebula, we wanted to address something relatable. At some point in our lives, we’ve all felt stuck - we’ve all been at a point where we weren’t the truest to ourselves or to our dreams. This song is about seeing past that and taking action. It’s about craving the unknown and the unreachable, and quite literally, shooting for the stars.

Lost in Translation is my diversion from a career as a film composer. Having worked on films like Green Book, Dear White People, and other Netflix shows, I wanted create a solo album with musicians that I admired, in spaces that inspired me. The project was recorded in Los Angeles and mixed and mastered at Abbey Road Studios in London. The violin soloist on this track is from the highly-acclaimed Calder Quartet in Los Angeles.

Lost in Translation reflects my efforts in this project to translate my musical thoughts into sonic audio. On film projects, I'm consistently inspired by breathtaking visuals and amazing performances; these visual cues inspire the music in my head. For this project I had none of that. Only abstract concepts and experimentations that gradually came together by piecing together fragments of audio and discovering what aspects of music I was drawn to, and how to bridge the gap between classical, commercial, and film music.

LOGAN NELSON scores compositions that blur the line between live instrumentalists and electronic atmospheres, evoking thrilling textures unique to each project. He was recently named the Best Young International Composer at the World Soundtrack Awards in Ghent, Belgium. Logan attended the festival with Oscar-winning director Barry Jenkins who later named him a “must watch composer.” 

Logan just finished collaborating on Renan Ozturk’s next documentary epic about Mt. Everest. The project was produced by National Geographic and Sony, featuring live orchestra recorded in Budapest!

Logan has worked closely with Emmy-winning composer, Kris Bowers. With Kris, Logan wrote additional music on Netflix’s critically acclaimed Dear White People and ABC’s For the People. Following these projects, they worked on the Golden Globe-winning film, Green Book, compiling both the original score as well as many of the source tracks. Logan also worked on Monsters and Men which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival, and was a credited composer on Unstoppable, which premiered at Tribeca. Before Kris, Logan worked at Hans Zimmer’s Remote Control Productions.

Logan recently scored, Straight Up, a romantic comedy produced by Valparaiso Pictures. When not scoring for film, Logan enjoys writing for other mediums, like dance; his piece Into and Out Through, conceived in collaboration with five choreographers, recently completed two sold-out performances. He also produces for the synth-pop duo, LightHouse which was described by Flaunt Magazine as "a seemingly flawless combination of various synthetics that not only pleases the ears but causes listeners to get up and dance.”

Additionally, Logan is a composer with Score a Score and Found Objects Music. He has written on various commercials for Google, Nexus, IBM, and Prudential. He has scored over 40 short films, two web series’, and a video game.

He attended the University of Southern California where he majored in Music Composition and minored in Cinematic Arts. Logan has played the viola in symphony orchestras across the midwest and enjoys incorporating it in his scores. He is also trained in classical and jazz piano. He loves 35mm photography, funky socks, and rewatching episodes of the Twilight Zone.

Logan resides in Los Angeles, California.
