In March of 2018, German composer and pianist, Tim Linghaus, released his debut full-length, titled Memory Sketches. I have immediately connected with his sonic palette and the concept of capturing a memory with music [for preservation and materialization thereof], and have subsequently selected the album as one of the best of the year, in Music For Watching The Snow Slowly Fall In The Moonlight list. Brian Housman of Stationary Travels has also picked up this fragile work, and in his syndicated words for Headphone Commute acknowledged that “bring this to realization in a sincere and compelling way that deeply affects the listener requires tremendous sensitivity to mood and texture…” Of course, I tend to agree. Following the release, Linghaus appeared on Sound In Silence with a collection of “B-sides,” and then again, a year later, with a 30+ min album of sixteen vignettes, titled We Were Young When You Left Home (Schole Inc., 2019) examining [his?] childhood emotions experienced during a parental divorce. Today I am premiering a brand new track for you, this time is taken from Tim’s upcoming release titled Memory Sketches II, which, as you can tell from the title, is a follow-up to his debut, once again focusing on shaping and archiving the memories with beautiful sound.

The rhythmic journey of adolescent immediacy through rushing emotions, the discovery of new experiences, and, much later on, reflection on these initial feelings, are all conveyed in this very first track appearing on the album. On the fifteen successional pieces, Linghaus explores further recollections of heartbreak, repetitive school daydreams, and projected fantasies of a childhood long gone. The piano is occasionally gently cradled by lo-fi treatments, some strings and synth sequences and pads. It’s all rather lovely, a bit introspective, nostalgic and melancholy. Just how I like it… as if these memories were mine. Stay tuned for the full-length, released on the Japanese Schole Records on a CD, and Swedish 1631 Recordings on digital, on October 29th, 2021. Adam Bryanbaum Wiltzie, the creative force behind A Winged Victory For The Sullen and Stars Of The Lid, is to officially release his score for the motion picture ‘Salero’ on November 11th.
Having channelled some of the most iconic drift music of our time through A Winged Victory For The Sullen and Stars of the Lid, 2016 has already seen Erased Tapes luminary Adam Bryanbaum Wiltzie provide original scores for a number of feature films including Jalil Lespert’s ‘Iris’ and ‘The Yellow Birds’ by Alexandre Moors.
It’s on ‘Salero’ however, that we see Wiltzie weave some of his finest work and deliver an expertly distilled accompaniment to director Mike Plunkett’s sprawling, uncompromising visuals. Set in Bolivia’s Salar de Uyuni, the world’s largest salt flat, the narrative follows the region’s ‘Saleros’ – those who have for generations gathered salt and earned enough to somehow carve out an existence in such a barren landscape. It’s with the discovery of huge Lithium reserves – a mineral used frequently throughout the tech industry – under the scorched earth that acts as a catalyst for exploitation of the environment and its people; holding a microscope to the drastic effect industrialisation has on local culture and tradition.
Recording took place in Adam’s Belgium-based studio for the guitars, percussion and small string ensemble tracking. Hungary was chosen for the final large string orchestra recordings at Magyar Radio Studio #22 with the Budapest Art Orchestra.

This is the fourth and final track from my new album Notes On Belonging coming out on 27th October 2017! This track is the place where I find space and meaning in the form of repetition of three notes. It explores the notion of belonging to a place, physically and spiritually, and a sense of journeying to a place called home. It's both tinged with joy and a sense of longing, of nearly being there but not quite yet. The track explores a sort of counterpoint, where instruments go in and out of phase to emphasise this nearness of things. They delicately tow the line of independent improvisation to colliding in pattern, most noticeable at the end of the track. I wanted to explore themes of indiviuality and freedom in the piece with the hope that inevitably we'd join forces at times. LOGAN NELSON scores compositions that blur the line between live instrumentalists and electronic atmospheres, evoking thrilling textures unique to each project. He was recently named the Best Young International Composer at the World Soundtrack Awards in Ghent, Belgium. Logan attended the festival with Oscar-winning director Barry Jenkins who later named him a “must watch composer.” 

Logan just finished collaborating on Renan Ozturk’s next documentary epic about Mt. Everest. The project was produced by National Geographic and Sony, featuring live orchestra recorded in Budapest!

Logan has worked closely with Emmy-winning composer, Kris Bowers. With Kris, Logan wrote additional music on Netflix’s critically acclaimed Dear White People and ABC’s For the People. Following these projects, they worked on the Golden Globe-winning film, Green Book, compiling both the original score as well as many of the source tracks. Logan also worked on Monsters and Men which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival, and was a credited composer on Unstoppable, which premiered at Tribeca. Before Kris, Logan worked at Hans Zimmer’s Remote Control Productions.

Logan recently scored, Straight Up, a romantic comedy produced by Valparaiso Pictures. When not scoring for film, Logan enjoys writing for other mediums, like dance; his piece Into and Out Through, conceived in collaboration with five choreographers, recently completed two sold-out performances. He also produces for the synth-pop duo, LightHouse which was described by Flaunt Magazine as "a seemingly flawless combination of various synthetics that not only pleases the ears but causes listeners to get up and dance.”

Additionally, Logan is a composer with Score a Score and Found Objects Music. He has written on various commercials for Google, Nexus, IBM, and Prudential. He has scored over 40 short films, two web series’, and a video game.

He attended the University of Southern California where he majored in Music Composition and minored in Cinematic Arts. Logan has played the viola in symphony orchestras across the midwest and enjoys incorporating it in his scores. He is also trained in classical and jazz piano. He loves 35mm photography, funky socks, and rewatching episodes of the Twilight Zone.

Logan resides in Los Angeles, California.
