Originally from Guadalajara, Jalisco and founder of U/CVR Undercover®, Who is Kiks ( @whoiskiks ) is an artist who connects with genres such as Minimal, Indie Dance, Dark Disco and with an exploration of melodic but powerful sounds, leading to a mesmerizing proposal and with a mystical energy. In each presentation, it invites us to a journey of escape as a new form of existence, with perfectly established and curated references, it takes us on a musical journey with a sober and elegant taste within a ritual with a rhythmic and solid roughness that converges between it escena Underground y los festivales, giving way to a no end of sensorial impulses.

Who is Kiks has managed to position himself with performances in some of the most relevant places on the stage such as Bar Américas, Bar Oriente and Casa Cobra, in addition to starting his career as a producer with tracks such as “REBORN”, “ALTERADOS” by mano by Daddy Issues and with remixes by AM/FM, Cosmosolar and Borgetti, and with an EP in process for this 2023 that will bear the title “CULTO”.

Summertime is here and there's no better way to celebrate it!
"Blanco Sombra" is Syd dePalma's debut on Rotten City. An EP where love, hate, and fear converge at a single point. Featuring two original tracks, "Puerto Leone" and "Cuerpo, Sombra y Espalda," the Spanish producer, musician, and vocalist has delved into the darkness to extract every color, finding a wonderful balance between various elements such as light and darkness, with classic and new methods of composition and production. The result is a fluctuating blend of new wave, psychedelia, and post-pop, creating a sonic space comparable to the feeling of nightfall, where one cannot distinguish between their strengths and weaknesses, yet still feels comfortable in the ebb and flow of sensations between good and evil.

On the other hand, Delone, fascinated by the vibes of "The Knife" or "Fever Ray" in "Puerto Leone", has transformed the vocals from the original track into an abstract wall of sound that drives the remix as a backdrop. It is 100% focused on the club scene, yet avoids the typical 4x4 beat to transcend genres on this amazing journey of breaks and epic chords.

With appearances on NEIN, Espacio Cielo, and Good For You, Jay-Son, honcho of Hot Dog Recordings, debuts on the cool British label Paisley Dark with the single “Spirit Dance”, a bouncing and groovy Indie Dance cut that received thumbs-up interpretations from Högt I Tak (SXDNS179), Hunterbräu & TakeMeThere, Keith Forrester, and The Machine Soul, who spared no efforts to bring the theme to their very own turfs in order to depict their characteristic sonorities without extremely distorting the main aura of the original.

The remix we chose to review/premiere comes from the criminal mastermind of our Swedish friend Janne Berglund aka Högt I Tak, co-owner of the also cool outlet When Disco Goes Wrong but with entrances in many other imprints such as Emerald & Doreen, ESTHÉTIQUE, Nuff Music, Ekord, and Espacio Cielo, just to name a few.

For his fourth stroll on Paisley, Janne soaked “Spirit Dance” in acid – something already expected by those who are familiar with his work – and delivered a powerful and intricate version that is undoubtedly one of the highlights of the release, in our humble opinion.

PREMIERE520 // Jay-Son - Spirit Dance (Högt I Tak Remix)

Since 2014, Silas Schletterer has been part of the Bordello A Parigi family. Under his Machinegewehr guise, the Rotterdam artist released three show-stopping synth centred records. 2023 sees him put out his fourth, Life. Burbling arpeggios, a signature of his sound, are present for “Sans.” Clever inviting melodies, another feature of Schletterer’s style, mix beautifully with clean percussion and samples for a definite dancefloor favourite. The title work follows. Measured and meditative, “Life” employs a familiar sound palette with very different outcomes. The pulsations, the throb, of Machinegewehr is there, but there is a considered melancholy that brins a bittersweet balance to the piece. Steady kicks and vocal snippets introduce “Pills.” Shifting melodies, piano stabs, driving rhythms and spoken word come together to create a heady brew of sheer pleasure. Vocals are central in the closer. “Neurons” narrates a fantastical story of subdued sci-fi sorrows and wistful yearning, all to a silken synth-pop soundtrack. A welcome return from a multifaceted musician.
