@malaikamalaika makes her  @pets_recordings debut with the ‘An Die Tür Klopfen’ EP, which translates as ‘Knocking on the Door’. However, following her incredible run of releases on labels including Permanent Vacation, Correspondant and Internasjonal, it's safe to say that the French Producer / DJ has been confidently kicking down and striding through any door thats stood in her path to date... 

On the title track Mala dons her disco boots and kicks hard again, leaving her mark with a seismic kick drum, dancing synth and darker chords which together, alongside its hooky vocal, brilliantly blend to become an exciting neon-laced anthem in the making. 

From knocking on doors to dancing like pigeons. We kid you not. ’Taubentanz’ employs Mala’s now trademark thundering drums, while …… lays down a killer vocal over the superior strut of the bassline. Zero time wasting here. This is serious heads down electro funk, at its most muscular. 

The hi-NRG sweatbox vibes continue on our final slice of Mala magic, ‘Ping Pong Balltanz’, with its metronomic bassline serving up a rubbery groove that keeps us on our toes, before we’re hit with the most unexpected of vocal rallies, that leaves us backspinning across the dance floor. A perfect ace to close a perfect Pets debut.

After a string of well-received works published on vital outlets such as Club Mackan, HEARec, and Under The Trees, Mundo D is finally back on (the equally vital) Espacio Cielo featuring his second EP on the Spanish powerhouse: “Bladepunk” comes brimming with four peak-time beasts divided into two pure-energy-soaked originals and two ravishing remixes made with love by Mmyylo and Parissior (SXDNS206), the label boss himself.

Mmyylo, the mastermind behind the version we were solicited to premiere/review, in turn, makes his better-late-than-never debut on Espacio after also delivering a string of well-received cuts put out on NEIN, Global Underground, My Secret Agenda, Sincopat, Side Up Works, and Dust & Blood, just to mention a few.

By decreasing the BPM of the opening theme from 124 to 116, Mmyylo may have changed the mood but not the grandeur of the original. He has respectfully kept the main elements, the Italo-meets-EBM aura, the robustness, and the gait of Mundo D’s creation, but now “Outta Space” belongs to a new sphere for a proper trip in “slow motion”.

Since 2014, Silas Schletterer has been part of the Bordello A Parigi family. Under his Machinegewehr guise, the Rotterdam artist released three show-stopping synth centred records. 2023 sees him put out his fourth, Life. Burbling arpeggios, a signature of his sound, are present for “Sans.” Clever inviting melodies, another feature of Schletterer’s style, mix beautifully with clean percussion and samples for a definite dancefloor favourite. The title work follows. Measured and meditative, “Life” employs a familiar sound palette with very different outcomes. The pulsations, the throb, of Machinegewehr is there, but there is a considered melancholy that brins a bittersweet balance to the piece. Steady kicks and vocal snippets introduce “Pills.” Shifting melodies, piano stabs, driving rhythms and spoken word come together to create a heady brew of sheer pleasure. Vocals are central in the closer. “Neurons” narrates a fantastical story of subdued sci-fi sorrows and wistful yearning, all to a silken synth-pop soundtrack. A welcome return from a multifaceted musician.

For Club Mackan's next release, we have two supercharged tracks by the Italian duo Dog.ma with two equally charged remixes by Louis de Tomaso and Brandski. 

What do you get when you have four supercharged tracks within an electromagnetic field? You get electromagnetism. Or, in this case, you get 'Elettromagnetismo' since our tracks are fully charged with Italo disco, every single one of them!

As in true 80s fashion, both Elettromagnetismo and Darpah are charged with driving basslines, catchy one-finger melodies and vocal-sounding synthesisers. Darpah tends to feel a little more melodic with its beautiful chord progression, while Elettromagnetismo is energetic and straightforward. 

Louis de Tomaso's remix gives Elettromagnetismo even more of an electric feel. True to the original, but with his own style, it's safe to say that Louis's remix is supercharged. 

If the original tracks were made in true 80s fashion, then Brandski's remix is not just in true 80s fashion. It's the definition of it. With a classic rolling Italo bassline, Brandski's remix gives Darpah even more of an authentic 80s feeling than the original.
