A journey down a river, from the moisture content of the air and clouds, turned by wind and rain into the tentative streams that come together to build an upland stream into rapids leading to the waterfall. 

From there the river slows, pausing to catch its breath and appears to calm as it increases in depth and breadth, all the while hiding the sheer power of its volume in whirls and flows until it finally joins the sea, eventually to return to the air that gave it life. 

The bird sounds are placed in roughly the sections of the piece where they could be expected to be found along a physical river. They are recorded and played as Ogg Vorbis files using patterns. All other sounds are synthesised. The waterfall sequence and sound effects are also played using a pattern. The “electric guitar” section in the waterfall sequence and all other sounds are played live, including all my mistakes. 

This piece was first performed at the York EMOM XVIII.

Intersystem Crossing

over the past day or so i felt like making some good ol' rhythm game japanese artcore, and this is what came out of it. i feel like my past music relied too much on timbre and dissonance; i wanted to make something more melodic and consonant. i also wanted to experiment with making my compositions feel more lively and not so "dry". lastly i wanted to stress-test a couple of piano and violin synth metamodules i made (they're what you're hearing here, no multisamples or libraries were used)

fun fact: this would probably be my second finished attempt at artcore. there was a first attempt years ago, when i first started making music; as you can imagine it sucked. in retrospect it was kind of alright, but it definitely had many flaws. but i think i did better this time :)

i'm not sure what to do with this release-wise, but i feel like this is too good to just sit on

This is probably the most time, thought, and effort I have ever put into a track. My third day of working on it I could tell it was really going somewhere, and I felt so much motivation. I have poured every second of free time I've had in the past week and a half into this project, and have loved every single second of it... this is probably the most fun I've had making a track in a few years. I am so, SO proud of this. I hope you guys enjoy this track!

i've noticed that when i look up "sunvox" here, one of the top autocomplete suggestions add "jungle" to the end. it seems that people inexplicably want content that combines sunvox and jungle. failing to see anything that adequately fulfilled this i made some jungle in sunvox :) i have bowed to the algorithm's whims (hence the title)

truth be told i'm not an avid listener of "strictly" jungle, i much prefer the harder and/or experimental side of drum 'n' bass. nonetheless this was a bit of a fun experiment for me :)
