Un documentaire sonore à la première personne sur l’amour, la mort et le hasard de la survie. L’histoire de deux accidents de transport qui dessinent ensemble un imaginaire de lignes : lignes ferroviaires, lignes électriques, lignes de rives comme autant de lignes de vie qui déraillent.

Première Partie :
On parle d'effet-lisière pour décrire les impacts négatifs des lisières artificielles crées dans les milieux naturels.
Ici la tentative est d'ouvrir un milieu urbain clos sur des paysages vastes.
Tentatives vouées à l'échec. Des portes s'ouvrent sur des espaces hermétiques. Les champs électriques et les rouages mécaniques encadrent les étendues. Les voix animales et humaines peinent à se faire entendre.
Les basses fréquences écrasantes, les battements aigus étourdissants traduisent une état à la limite, sur le seuil, caractéristique du trouble de la personnalité borderline.
Le dehors encerclé par le dedans, la psyché qui engourdie le corps.
Un témoignage d'une personne troublée qui ne trouve pas le répits dans son environnement immédiat.

First part :
We speak of the "edge-effect" to describe the negative impacts of artificial edges created in natural environments.
Here the attempt is to open a closed urban environment onto vast landscapes.
Attempts doomed to failure. Doors open into airtight spaces. Electric fields and mechanical cogs frame the expanses. Animal and human voices struggle to be heard.
The crushing low frequencies and the dizzying high beats reflect a borderline state, on the threshold, characteristic of borderline personality disorder.
The outside surrounded by the inside, the psyche which numbs the body.
A testimony of a troubled person who cannot find respite in his immediate environment.

Effet-Lisière Partie 1

N30: Who guards the Guardians? fuses official and unofficial recordings of police transmissions made on November 30, 1999 into a simmering polyglot of radio traffic, polyphonic speech, splashes and sprays of tape hiss, enigmatic numbers glossolalia, and other broadcast anomalies.

An oral history made in the moment, this 57 minute radiophonic work depicts how law enforcement acted and reacted on that unforgettable day in Seattle history when thousands gathered in Seattle to protest the World Trade Organization. 

Both activists and law enforcement strategists refer to November 30, 1999, as "N30" while "Who guards the Guardians?" was inspired by lines from Plato and Juvenal. In that classic of Greek philosophy, The Republic, Plato called for elite guardians to rule his ideal state: "We mean our guardians to be true saviors not the destroyers of the State...." (Book IV, 1896 Jowett translation). Addressing the decadence, erosion of individual rights, and decline of morality in the early Roman Empire, the satirist Juvenal asked pointedly in his Sixth Satire "Who guards the guardians?"
