For our 3rd Plex Basement sessions back in 2013 we welcomed someone I had been desperate to book ever since seeing him play under his Sutekh guise at Sonar 2001, step forward Rrose.

This series of events saw us promote the night without announcing any headliners who were playing, a risky strategy in the cut throat world of London promoting at the time but in all honesty it worked and we sold out all 4 of the parties we did in 2013 pretty quickly. I guess those that took a chance trusted in what we were doing and who we'd get on to play. 

Seth played an incredible 2hr set on the night, weaving together really deep atmospheric minimally driven techno and building it up nicely to a more heavier latter part of his set. Another personal favourite of mine.

A self-described "rave-generalist", Sard is a DJ, producer, and Live PA artist living in Detroit. Combining his passion for perfect dancefloors and the deeper technical aspects of dance music, his performances and productions have maintained a steady placement in the Midwest and beyond. Sard channels a life dedicated to music study into his sound, blending influences of North American techno and rhythms from abroad. His releases on Fixed Rhythms, PPRZ, Amphiboly, and Codec Recordings have been played globally by friends and heroes alike.

For the seventh installment of our podcast series, we are happy to present you with the live recording of Antenes's set.

Having met Antenes nearly a decade ago in Taipei, we found her more than a natural match for our events: An esteemed and well-acclaimed sound designer, producer, and DJ, Antenes has a natural radar for the music that finds itself floating between soothing soundscapes, wistful textures, and the occasional, and possibly accidental acid kick, leaving listeners in, somewhat, surreal state, on the edges of reality and the liminal. In her own words, her music aims to "make us lose our sense of time." This is evident as her set meanders through different spheres over two hours, through gentle escapes, heavy turns, an occasional beat, and timeless drone loops, leaving listeners with a sonic journey in which time finds no place. ポッドキャスト・シリーズの第7回目として、今年の2月12日に特別な音響設備を備える東京の神楽音で録音されたAntenesによるハイブリッドライブの録音をシェアできることになりました。

10年近く前に台北で出会ったAntenesが、私たちのイベントに自然と調和することは明らかで、この特別なセッションでは、彼女の長年にわたる経験、つまり高名なサウンドデザイナー、プロデューサー、DJの中で培われてきた感性が余すとこなく発揮されました。

彼女は、音楽に対する天性のレーダーを持っており、心地よいサウンドスケープ、切ないテクスチャー、アシッドキックの間を漂う音楽は、リスナーを現実と境界線の端にいるような、どこか超現実的（LIMINAL）な感覚へと適切な方法で案内します。彼女自身の言葉を借りれば、彼女の音楽は "時間の感覚を失わせる"と表現できます。穏やかな逃避行、ヘヴィな展開、時折聞こえるビート、時代を超えたドローン・ループなど、2時間以上にわたってさまざまな領域を蛇行する彼女のセットを聴けば、この言葉の意味が明らかになるでしょう。タイムレスな時空旅行をお楽しみください。

“For the closing night of Return to the Source at the @ithqdetroit presents @thebunkerny party, we have a night of unique pairings, back to back sets from people who knew each other mostly, but usually don’t play together. After a full weekend of non stop great music, what better than the drama of the unknown combinations to keep you fully engaged, with deeply curated pairings and flows for each room. On May 27, @mikeservito x @jeffreysfire scheduled from 1am until 3am. Mike Servito always majestically closes out No Way Back, but what would this combination bring? Sfire brought the heat, and their styles melded in a slightly pitched down form, music from all eras appeared. To me, it was a form of sonic bliss. I went and asked the Danny from Bing (who does the sound and built the speakers for the Garden Stage) if he minded if we went later, he was all for it. So were Servito and Sfire, and it just kept getting better and better. The crowd was totally locked in, the feeling was ecstatic, it was truly a beautiful moment. Canadian/British, Berlin based DJ, producer and label-head Tommy Lewis has been making waves around the globe with his unique sound. Tommy Lewis’ mixing and production style is characterised by groovy and up-tempo rhythms, both hypnotic and upbeat rhythmic. Lewis is the co-founder and label manager of PHTM, a label and collective established in 2019, centered around pushing the boundaries of driving and hypnotic Techno. Tommy Lewis has made a name for himself on an international scale, having toured extensively across North America and Europe. 

Tommy Lewis’ productions comprise raw, minimal textures and percussive elements, with a timeless sound crafted perfectly for the dancefloor. This mix begins with an experimental selection at a slow and steady pace and builds with a crescendo, increasing tempo and intensity and seamlessly transitioning in to dark, hypnotic rhythms. 

Buckle up for a top-notch two hours of Tommy Lewis.

Lonefront is the production moniker of Ross Lafayette Hutchens, a hybrid trackmaker, Live PA and modular synth artist whose work is both integral to and anomalous within Minneapolis’s percolating techno underground. His recording catalog reveals a project that remains singularly focused while navigating a slurry of idiomatic shifts and material rigs: the churning Cimilada Qaxootiga (MJMJ, 2017) drew from materials re-composed from a live modular set, while 2019’s Plastic Dreams EP seems to signal toward the place where Gradient Descent dwells.

Gradient Descent marks the crystallization of Lonefront’s trademark carbon-on-silicon method into a sharp and distinct compositional style: equally deft with unruly, extended trips into modular deep-dreaming as he is with sculptural sound-design gestures that dangle listeners in the void of ‘post-rave,’ Hutchens’s defamiliarized mode of techno re-stitches these busted compositional forms into a “program for the reanimation of dead materials.”  The brisk triad of extended pieces on Gradient Descent takes up distinct techno-idioms while maintaining a unitary feel throughout. 

The lead title track bubbles with a pressurized tension, lightly surfing a recombinant grid of narrow arpeggios and gardenpath rhythms before opening up onto a plain filled with gushing channel noise. The pressure never quite boils over before the torched-metal orchestrals of “Fear Collapse” slam into lock-step. A lucid and dramatic centerpiece, the track shows Lonefront’s aptitude to reroute oft-abused generic markers (in this case, the industrial kick) by channeling them into a system that draws out latent affect without demanding it. The rinsed, cackling synth warbles of “Everything is Dripping with Laughter” round out the effort, summoning a base of warm colundi frequencies and Stalker-reminiscent reverberations, riding the bounce of self-inoculating humor coyly toward a receding info-horizon.
