'Necessary Machinery' is the first track of Primal Extensions EP. I was adamant that we release this record in the dead of winter, a time of short days and long nights, but also a time of gathering strength and deep introspection.

For many years I was gripped by the idea of working within techno music yet also outside. How to resolve a contradiction. How to map the unmappable. How to find a way to make a logical proposition and its opposite both true. On my quest I first had to find and define the boundaries of the object I was dealing with. I found that some of the fundamentals of techno music are a steady beat and binary subdivisions. An eternal grid, the fabric of techno reality from which all common patterns are derived.

I found a solution in prime rhythm, a vast and beautiful world of music topology. Polyrhythms of prime number ratios. Each prime rhythm potentially generates a new grid, a whole new parallel universe of rhythm, relationships, frequencies.

I hope you enjoy the result and that you find the music energizing and simulating.

Celebrating the Lunar New Year with ‘Lì xì’, the first track to be shared from JakoJako’s brand new album, Tết 41 - out 25th April.

This record is, in many ways, a distillation of ideas JakoJako has been exploring for years. Tapping into a deep understanding of machine-based music and illuminated by references to her heritage, Tết 41 reflects on notions of rebirth, and the pursuit of a sonic core. From this simplicity emerge some of her most expansive, unworldly compositions to date.

Berlin-based producer JakoJako aka Sibel Kocer's debut album for Mute - after appearances on a stream of leading German labels including Tresor - is described as a distillation of ideas that she's been exploring for many years. In reality, that means working on a minimal set up, away from the computer while restricting herself to just a Eurorack and a Waldorf Iridium Core, in the search for spontaneity. She found it, for sure, as the results - recorded in Vietnam during the Tet Lunar New Year celebrations - are a feast of glistening arpeggios and lush modular textures, stripped back but full of expression and personality. 'Ghi-ta' will appeal to fans of vintage perky ambient productions the Pete Namlook/Mixmaster Morris collaboration Dreamfish, while 'Gio' has a touch of Tangerine Dream's classic widescreen sensibilities. Bold tones, bold debut.

PREMIERE: JakoJako - Kumquat (Mute)

Berlin-based producer Nicolas Bougaïeff returns with Prime Funktion, the second instalment in his Prime EP series on NovaMute, following Primal Extensions. Expanding his exploration of prime rhythms and polytemporality, Bougaïeff pushes the limits of techno with intricate rhythmic frameworks and hypnotic, high-intensity club cuts.

Visually, the artwork mirrors the EP’s rhythmic complexity, illustrating prime rhythms as layered circular structures—patterns that momentarily align, echoing the tension between freedom and synchronisation central to the Prime series.

Prime Funktion showcases Bougaïeff continuing his quest to expand the rhythmic possibilities of electronic music, drawing from his PhD in minimal techno and decades of experience in the scene. This work explores what Bougaïeff calls "temporal liberation"—where intricate rhythms both literally break the constraints of traditional techno and serve as a symbolic metaphor for broader notions of personal, social, and metaphysical freedom.

‘Dragon Bridge’—inspired by JakoJako's travels through Vietnam and the fire-breathing Cầu Rồng in Da Nang. 🐉🐉🐉

“I wrote this track in Da Nang on the day the Dragon Bridge spit fire,” Koçer says. “It was spectacular… especially as we were there in 2024, the year of the dragon. After watching, we went home, and I wrote that tune.”

Terence Fixmer's music has the remarkable ability to not only set feet in motion on the dance floor but also resonate deeply with the searching soul, all while maintaining a profound musical depth and integrity.
With a career spanning over two decades, he has released numerous albums and EPs on some of the most prestigious techno labels. His remixing talents have extended to tracks from industry giants like Depeche Mode, Yann Tiersen, Sven Väth, Dave Clarke, Front 242, Nitzer Ebb, Indochine, and more.
Terence Fixmer is renowned for the quality of his live performances, gracing renowned clubs and festivals worldwide.

Chapter 1: 1998-2007.
In 1998, Terence established his own label, Planete Rouge. From 1999 to 2007, he gained worldwide recognition with the release of his debut album, "Muscle Machine," under DJ Hell's legendary International Deejay Gigolos imprint. 

In 2002, Fixmer joined forces with Nitzer Ebb's lead singer, Douglas McCarthy, to form Fixmer/McCarthy. Together, they released two full-length albums that pushed the boundaries of Techno EBM to the maximum. The album "Fixmer McCarthy Between the Devil" has earned its place as a revered classic, and the band has become iconic in the Techno EBM scene.Fixmer/McCarthy earned respect in the global scene for their unique way of creating truly pioneering sound fusions by elegantly blending the aggression of Techno Body Music and the sensuality of Electronica.

Chapter 2: 2007-2015
Fixmer continued to expand the horizons of modern techno, releasing albums and EPs under his own name as well as various alter egos. His works found homes on highly respected techno labels such as Electric De Luxe, Prologue, Jealous God, CLR (including the "Depth Charged" album in 2014), Aufnahme + Wiedergabe.

Chapter 3: 2015-2020
Terence Fixmer continued to evolve his sound in 2015. His EP "Aktion Mekanik," was reissued on Ostgut Ton, marking his entry into the Ostgut Ton family—the flagship label of Berlin's Berghain club. He subsequently released various EPs on Ostgut Ton ( Force EP, Devil May Care EP)  and his album "Through the Cortex LP ." in 2017.

Chapter 4: 2020- 
 Terence produced music for Thomas Cohen (formerly singer of Scum) with tracks like "Braid" and "Chain of Love" on Mute Records.Additionally, he signed with the legendary label Mute Records, renowned for its roster of innovative and influential artists. 
In 2022, he released his first album on Mute Records titled "Shifting Signals" .
His music has been used by Fashion brand, such as Prada, Raf Simons, Zegna...
Terence Fixmer's unwavering drive to craft experimental, mind-bending, and relentless sounds continues to transcend the boundaries of the musical mainstream, solidifying his place as a visionary within the techno and electronic music landscape.
