In Greek mythology, Deimos is the personification of fear and panic in battles, and twin brother of Phobos who represented fear. Together, they accompanied the god of war in every fight.

It’s taken 6 years for ‘Phobos’ to meet ‘Deimos’ musically. The label believes that it couldn’t have been a more representative moment of what they needed to express, due to the uncertainty and confusion we are living. With this work, they explore the somber feelings and existential conflicts that take hold of us in these difficult times, sometimes in contrast with the need for struggle and survival.

This magnificent EP, under the stamp of the Barcelona label Urban Legend records, includes four enfolding tracks by Lair and Wará, full of shadows and dark voices, that will take you on an inner journey to the deepest within you. The EP is enriched by two extremely powerful remixes, full of demonic rhythms and underworld atmospheres, created by Sam KDC and NX1.


Today, we present the excellent remix of 'Badb', by the Barcelona-based duo NX1. The remix is a slow, dark techno track, with its eerie synth and vocals filled with agony, accompanying  the heavily distorted drums that gradually lure the listener into a state of mental anaesthesia.

Greek electronic music platform, ‘π‘ turns seven this year and brings new features on its label catalogue. ‘Variable Remixes’ is the first remixes EP of the Pi Electronics Various Artists series ‘PEVA’. Five tracks from the debut compilation ‘Variable’ –released in 2018- are getting remixed by some of the label’s favorite acts.

Unhuman’s “imminent Fear” gets an alternative Version by the legendary, Spanish band of Esplendor Geometrico.
Damcase’s “INKL Rules” is remixed by American producer Container.
The untitled track of the Variable compilation, by the artist project “I am Legion, for We are many”, gets reinterpreted by the Canadia duo of Rich Oddie (Orphx) and Huren as ‘O/H’.
On the flip side, the track ‘GBNR17’ of the label’s ‘3.14’ gets its fix by Spanish, industrial techno maestro, Geistform and DΛS’ “Spinner” receives a special remix treatment by Athens’ infamous ANFS.

Noise break-beats of different tastes on the A side, with stomping industrial beats for the club and sub-club environment on the B side.

“Trauma Tendrils” lands with all the diplomacy of blunt force trauma. Both veteran producers trawl the deepest and darkest recesses of their personal brands of dystopia, settling on a chaotic course of textured experimentalism and distorted broken rhythms. It’s industrial techno that has dissected and reorganized its molecular structure. Tracks that simulate the experience of emerging from the primordial cyber cocoon. What’s the worst that could happen?

On EP opener “Frantic Solar”, a corrosive melodic motif swirls around kicks precision-engineered to shake the very core of the earth. Ashen voices and screeching machine wails round out the scene. Driving and cavernous, “Dozhdot” bursts through the speakers with bags of lawless energy. With explosive buzzes, unrelenting kicks, and barely a second to breathe, both producers drive their rhythmic framework into despotic territory. The two faster numbers of the foursome, “Tendrils” and “Losing Grip”, ramp up the drama and the sense of cinematic anticipation. Something’s around the corner but you don’t want to know what because it might be the last thing you ever see.

Domizako and Ice_Eyes both take on “Losing Grip”. Prague producer Domizako leans into the track’s tense atmosphere with a remix that is the sonic equivalent of a rolling boil. It’s understated and it’s deadly. Greek experimentalist Ice_Eyes turns the party dial up with a remix primed for the club. Prepare for big stabs and big polyrhythmic energy.

Acclaimed Berlin-based techno producer, Pris, returns with the ‘Sulphur City’ EP – the second release on his new label Empathy, released on 29 November 2019. 
Following his debut EP on Empathy – the label and mixed media project he co-runs with Deejay Astral – in Spring 2019 with ‘New Babylon’ EP, Pris shows why he is such an exciting and respected producer, drawing on many different influences. 
Opening with the exhilarating, glitchy ‘Discovery’ which Pris describes as “a step into the unknown, combined with a sense of excitement and wonder.” ‘Soft Viral’ leads on perfectly. “A fun little track, jittery and growling. It’s nice stripping things back to get the most out of each element” 
Title track, ‘Sulphur City’, is for Pris, “very visual and inspired by a trip to Shanghai where I had a vision of an uninhabited technologically advanced city due to the climate crisis, a ride through a city succumb to nature” 
‘Twilight Falls’ shows a different side to Pris’s techno. “I have a soft spot for this. I wanted to make a somewhat uplifting track, envisioning the feeling of escaping city life during the twilight hours in a futuristic world where little natural beauty remains. But what there is, gives hope.” 
Early ‘Sulphur City’ EP supporters include Daniel Avery, Leon Vynehall, Ben UFO, Svreca, Mary Anne Hobbs, Wata Igarashi, Henning Baer, Pangaea, Rrose, and Cassegrain. 

Pris said: “The EP is a step beyond what I’ve made in the past. It draws from all aspects of my influences and experiences since first getting into music. I wanted this EP to show the side to techno that I see and want to share: colourful, energetic and painting a picture of where I’m at musically and my interpretation of what techno can be. I realised that I enjoy playing tracks with breaks in and decided to play around with them a bit myself for this EP as an experiment on how to build energy.

Nasanieru aka Nasan is a 21 year old lofi house producer based from Los Angeles, CA. Nasan started producing at the age of 11 and grew his craft from Todd Edward's inspirations, Ross from Friends, Daft Punk, Roche Musique, Justice, MSTRKRFT, The Cure, Theo Parrish and Leon Vynehall...the early exposure to these artists have transformed into Nasan's grooved up lofi house sounds.

At 18 he decided to work for a blog that's based in France called "Do You Like That Song" , nd eventually became friends, and received mentoring from Todd Edwards, Patlok, YUKSEK and the crew at Roche Musique.

It has been two years since the first compilation on the Various Artists series (PEVA) of Pi Electronics and the concept has stayed true to its aim: to present a coherent selection of the label’s favourite collaborators from the roster and parties over the years. Bringing together Greek and international artists, this compilation opens with a 10 minute recording by the combined forces of Orphx and JK Flesh (Justin Broadrick), from a live performance recorded in Amsterdam. Meanwhile we also showcase the resurfacing of Vofa, the joint project of producers Sawf and ANFS. There is a variety of options in this 13 tracks release; from the raw and harsh textures of An-i and New Frames, to Lycurgus live drum set recordings, Kondaktor’s African percussive electronics and Sarin’s EBM infused techno. Some more techno interpretations, such as the hypnotic moods of Stave and Fragedis, or the more punchy sounds of Restive Plaggona and Poison Green. These shape the full picture of this second Pi Electronics compilation titled ‘Divide & Rule’.

EN: The producer Weever (@drennweever) launches his label, Vives. Vives is the French translation of weevers, which is a specie of little sea fish living under the sand. They have in common a venomous spine that can sting man when he steps on it. Its sting provokes an intense pain that spreads to the bones. This should put a flea in your ear concerning the mood of the label, which is open to any kind of electronic music, but you now have understood that darkness is a central theme. We inaugurate this first release, composed of four tracks by Clarence Park, Kronom, Weever and Distant. We’ve chosen for you Clarence Park’s (@clarencepark) track, Everlane, with its industrial sonorities. Heavy ambiance and jerky rhythms transport you to the biltzkrieg’s era, every shelter is welcome in this chaotic world that Clarence Park depicted here. Clarence Park is a French producer, founder of the label Larmes, and he is used to creating atmospheres for an endless internal wandering, just like this track Everlane.

VIVES, the French word for « weevers », is a record label based in Rennes (FR) focusing on electronic music (Techno, Industrial, Ambient, Experimental, Electro, EBM).

Vives or weevers are a family of sea sh that bury themselves in the sand. They have venomous spines that sting people that walks on them. Their stings often cause severe pain that spreads to the bones. For these artworks, the label decided to collaborate with the artist Alexandre Viaud who paints on photos. 

He takes his inspiration from the work of Arnulf Rainer and Jackson Pollock for his way of painting : an instant painting, made of strokes, deposits, to give complete freedom to his painting. Each
piece of music is meant to reect the artwork. 

VIVES label’s first release on Tuesday, June 30th in digital format and tape. In this compilation, the artists Clarence Park, Kronom, Weever and Distant deliver four tracks with a special character, both dark and bright.

This type of music is to be found in every other release of the label which is resolutely open to every genre
of electronic music.

The Brvtalist is pleased to premiere a new track from Weever. “Loyauté” comes off the new various artists release which also launches the Rennes-based label VIVES. The name comes from a family of sea fish that bury themselves in the sand and have venomous spines which sting people who walk on them. Their stings often cause severe pain that spreads to the bones. This is an appropriate name for today’s track which is a slow burning, yet highly toxic mix of industrial, electro and more which quickly infects all systems. The release also features music from Clarence Park, Kronom and Distant. In addition, the label has collaborated with French artist Alexandre Viaud for the striking artwork which is also available as a poster.
