This is a vamp I put together to practice telling a story soloing over just 4 chords.  I really like when the drum track comes in here!

Home recording a few years back, again in Canada, of my arrangement of a Christmas tune... w/live and virtual instruments. 

Angela Garwood Touw, violin, Dan Chabot, tenor sax, Matthew Jones, cello, and Sue Steel on sound/microphone duties... mixed with me playing software: piano (True Keys), bass (Trilian, various synths and effects, and drums (LogicPro).

I was practicing to a little vamp the other day and I really liked the way the right hand chords with the straight 8 feel meshed with a syncopated left hand bass.  I recorded the Rhodes part and then decided to solo on top of it using a steel drum patch. It just seemed to work so well. I added a drum track part way through and the following track was born...

Practice Vamp #3

Trumpeter Victor Haskins and me, loosely playing around with All The Things You Are.  I think this was a soundcheck before a quartet gig in Richmond, Va. - the drummer and bass player weren't there yet, and I was on a provided keyboard I wasn't familiar with. I just went with the character of what it was.

A few years ago in Canada, I had an idea to do a Christmas album. I started, never finished, so this piece and Christmas Time Is Here on my soundcloud page are the only ones completed.

This is my definition of an extravagant musical arrangement. Much thanks to Danielle Jones, Ontario virtuoso classical flutist on this song. It was fun to do this with her, yet her talents are not fully on display here. I just had her record the melody and a few lines, then I built the music around that, playing a wide variety of virtual instruments. So this was mostly a different kind of arrangement, and going for a slightly mysterious feel.
