Ema Sakura’s Good Either Way EP is so good in every way. Making her solo debut on Lots of Practice, she welcomes us into her world of luscious soundscapes and unique meditative melodies. Each of the 5 tracks that make up this project dip into a delicate, warm ambience that brings you to a place of comfort and reflection.

From the light and airy drum and bass tune, ‘Tell Me’, we go down a perfectly paced path of percussive melodic house and electronica, filled with a dynamic array of emotions in ‘Higher’, ‘Tōsō’, and ‘Wait For Me’ all leading us to the EP’s namesake ‘Good Either Way’ that sends us to a feeling of pure bliss. A year in the making, these tracks were started during a challenging time for Ema, each one building on the next and pushing her forward to finish on the other side, encapsulating the ups and downs, tears and happiness, leaving her all in the music.

In the Good Either Way EP, we find Ema venturing beyond her classical roots, with compositions featuring ethereal vocals, Japanese nostalgia, and dreamy atmospheres, with harmonic elements that pay homage to her classical background. Through her music, she invites listeners into her realm of deeply personal inspiration as she weaves a tapestry that juxtaposes darkness and beauty.

Ema Sakura - Good Either Way

SlimSoul's music journey began at the age of 9, having been raised in a family of singers, drummers and dancers. This led him to a feeling for Afro, deep soulful melodies incorporated within house music. SlimSoul started producing his own house music, because he was looking for something different within those sounds. His goal is to bring people together and spread love through the connection of music. SlimSoul can do just that if he keeps putting out work like this! 

This mix takes you on a journey through the deep end of house and the highest highs of expression. In the future, you can expect to see SlimSoul experiment with ways to blend Tech House and Afro soulful together. His ultimate goal is to spin at a music festival, saying "to have that kind of experience with the people is everything! You can't put a price on that."

LOP GUEST MIX SERIES 001: MAD GAVS

SWEET LIKE CHOCOLATE. is a Black-owned, collaborative house music, fashion and entertainment project; founded by DJ/Producers alexNOIZE and ZEN1TH. 

Inspired by the likes of The Martinez Brothers, Paul Johnson and Dennis Ferrer, their sound ranges from soulful classic house music, to energetic Ibiza tech house crowd lifters. With them, no set is the same- and this has created an extremely high demand for them to play across major cities within the USA.

LOP GUEST MIX SERIES 003: SWEET LIKE CHOCOLATE

OJ (full name Olivia Johnson) is a DJ and aspiring producer in Los Angeles. It was an easy choice for the Seattle native to keep the nickname - it happens to rhyme quite well with DJ. By day she wields words and creativity as a PR specialist, but in 2019 she decided to apply that knack for storytelling to her main passion: creating musical experiences as a DJ. Pre-COVID she would regularly spin at Westside spots like The Little Friend and Nameless, but during the pandemic has embraced Twitch as a way to find new audiences. She believes music is the most gratifying way to experience and process emotion, and draws further inspiration from dark dancefloors she’s experienced around the world. Expect plenty of acid, techno and breaks alongside chunky, jackin’ house when she’s on the decks. A house head at heart, her multifaceted, multi-genre mixes also fuse ‘90s house anthems with pop and hip hop edits. With a drive second to none, stay tuned for what’s to come from OJ.

LOP GUEST MIX SERIES 004: OJ

Born and raised in Southern California, 30 year old Kree Iraldo has been around various music scenes- from the thriving club life in downtown Los Angeles, to raves in San Bernardino, and to window-shattering house parties in Orange County. Ever since Derteedisco picked up the decks, his unique mixing style of house with disco/90's samples continues to give us a sound that starts parties and brings down the clubs. With over 600 private shows,  numerous club events, playing alongside the likes of Shdws, Justin Jay, Luke Andy, Jason Ross, Charity Strike, Mark Farina,  Dj Ideal, Dj Casanova, The Funk Hunters, Cheechmo, and Subset. Derteedisco makes an excellent addition to any line-up.

LOP GUEST MIX SERIES 005: DERTEEDISCO

Born in Santa Monica and raised on the westside of Los Angeles, Monsieur Frazier is a veteran of the L.A. club scene. Frazier held down a year-long DJ residency at the seminal Sound Nightclub, as well as graced the decks at many of the city’s best venues. In 2018 Frazier made the leap from club to the festival stage, making appearances at Splash House, Coachella, Minimal Effort, and more.
 
The offspring of a two-time Olympian and former Baltimore-based DJ, Frazier was raised in a family bursting at the seams with natural-born talent. Following in the footsteps of their father, both Frazier and his twin brother have dedicated themselves to a career rooted in music. Frazier's story begins with Hip Hop and Rap, with his first foray into the music industry beginning as a DJ for some of the L.A.’s many local rappers, coming up alongside many of the city’s biggest names in Hip Hop including Odd Future, Warm Brew, Dom Kennedy, and many more. Evidenced by his rapping and extensive use of sampling, Frazier's Hip Hop roots have stuck with him deeply throughout his career as he made the sonic pivot to playing electronic music.

Frazier released his first remix in December 2020 for Miami-based duo boiish and Mike Antix on acclaimed U.K. label HE.SHE.THEY, a label/collective that promotes inclusivity and diversity on the dance floor. The remix has garnered support from his peers as well as global DJs such as Lee Burridge, becoming a staple in his recent sets. 

In September 2021, Frazier released his long-awaited, self-titled debut EP to much acclaim. Receiving support from Groove Armada, Richie Hawtin, Chris Lake, Gene Farris, Blond:ish, Anna Lunoe, Rebuke, DJ, EZ, Life On Planets, and many, many more, as well overwhelming support from many of peers in his beloved local Los Angeles scene. In addition, Frazier also received spins on Liquid Todd’s Sirius XM show, Amy Elle’s KISS FM show, and local favorite SiLVA’s KCRW show. The EP, with its sonic diversity, and range, marked a turning point in Frazier’s career from local club DJ to a fully formed artist, worthy of international appeal, and recognition. 

Through his unwavering passion for the traditionalist sounds spanning Chicago and New York house, Detroit techno, and UK garage — along with a heavy influence of funk, hip hop, soul, R&B, jazz, and disco — it’s safe to say Frazier has figured out a winning formula that’s earned him the overwhelming support of his contemporaries and peers alike. It won’t be long before the rest of the listening world truly begins to take notice.

LOP GUEST MIX SERIES 007: MONSIEUR FRAZIER

Driven to pioneer the frontiers of musical expression, French-born KAYA (@kayamusique)(Jean-Philippe Kaya) merges extensive classical piano and composition training with his Congolese-Cameroonian heritage to push boundaries and test novel approaches to sound. After studying in Montreal, and later working with legends like Hans Zimmer and Pete Tong in Los Angeles, KAYA drew inspiration from the raw beats of both cities to develop his own singular style, which led him on a national gig journey opening for the likes of Deadmau5, Habstrakt, and A-Trak.  With upcoming original releases and a collaboration with SNBRN underway, KAYA is set to launch his first live electronic pop duo act in Europe this summer along with fellow collaborator FRENCH ORIGINAL. Together, they continue to challenge individuals’ listening experiences with relentless momentum to diversify new paradigms of blended sounds.

She is cruising through the night, picking excellent and felicitous music, building aural landbridges between Led Zeppelin and Justin Jay; between Robag Wruhme and Donna Summer.

Only someone with a mind for what works could put together the eclectic dancefloor jam that is “Elevate Us,” the new single on Lots Of Practice.

Within the track’s five minutes, SiLVA effortlessly combines house music, deep house, and acid house in a manner that is as professional as it is seductive. Rather than take the basic elements of each subgenre and stack them on top of one another, she intuitively blends them with maturity and restraint.

Multi disciplinary artist, @NikkoAxzul , is most known for his disco and soulful flavors of House on dance-floors throughout Mexico— where he’s been living the past couple of years. The Los Angeles native had been receiving some attention throwing small renegades out of his art van across the United States at the start of the pandemic, bringing music to the streets at a time needed most. You can catch him doing the same thing this upcoming months in New York, all summer long. In this mix, recorded exclusively for LOP, he gets back to his love for jazz and hip-hop with a variety of house tracks influenced by the genres. Smooth, silky and seductive sounds can expected in this series of selections by Nikko Axzul.

LOP GUEST MIX SERIES 016: NIKKO AXZUL

Born in Toronto, Dittorama formed through a mutual love for Chicago footwork in 2019. During the pandemic they formed a community on Twitch that allowed them to share their sound and meet new like-minded people. Fresh into the scene, they have found a home with Work That, a local party that welcomes a wide range of electronic music. The following mix is inspired by their set from Work That’s second party on May 14th.

LOP GUEST MIX SERIES 017: DITTORAMA

The producer known as Actual out of Dunedin, NZ (Aotearoa) first brought us a pack of hot tracks to the label’s free download series that made it to the RinseFM airwaves by way of Jyoty’s residency and now returns with an official EP release that’s made it clear he’s ready to run the tables. 

The title track, Teviot, picks up signal from the start, immediately tickling the senses and sliding into a soulful and catchy flute melody mixed with snare snippets and bouncing bongos that can seriously brighten any day. Though this track in particular should come with a warning…it may induce unstoppable head-bobbing. 

Accompanying on this project is budding producer cinamin, who marks her first official release, teaming up with Actual for a track aptly named, Cina2. Its ethereal opening sets the stage for a stroll through a dreamy field of footwork action with dark and brooding bass each step of the way. Punchy acid hits at each break beg you to keep going and echo throughout this expression of musical energy. 

Both Actual and cinamin are truly just getting started, continuing to put in the sweat equity that’s bound to get them far. And, with Actual’s previous work with the label getting so much love and breaking into the Top 100 Breaks Charts on Hypeddit, it’s only a matter of time before his breakout gains boundless recognition.

For Olivia Johnson, known to crowded dance floors as OJ, a big part of her musical journey is trying to unlock a fuller expression of herself. For those that know, OJ unlocking her production prowess is a new force to be reckoned with. For ‘Resolve To Rave’, much like how OJ would describe raving itself, we have a small but impactful slice of peace and euphoria. It’s about that feeling, deep down, connecting with yourself during and after nights spent with friends and chosen family, in a pulsing room with the crowd embracing each moment. Resolve To Rave speaks to her resolve to chase that feeling, unlock her inner artist and shake off any fear or uncertainty that might come along the way. 

Bottom line, this track is an out of body experience. Bouncing breaks, flying through euphoric pads and an echoing, colorful panning choir leads to an epic call and response that you won’t soon forget. It’s rare that a song with such high energy and driving force can get you to slow down and reflect, diving further into the moment in hand, but this unconventionally catchy tune does just that. 

OJ is a DJ and producer based in Los Angeles. Leaning toward leftfield and nostalgic rave sounds with a dark side, she draws inspiration from experiences of catharsis & connection in LA’s underground and festivals around the world. She first dabbled in DJing at Westside bars  pre-pandemic, but over the past year she's been making her name in LA and beyond, lighting up dancefloors for parties like Closer LA, Stereo Punks, Wicked Paradise, Tropicaza, Best of Friends and more, from DIY warehouses to Sound Nightclub. Her multigenre sets and original productions fuse breaks, techno, house and electro and though this is her first original release, you better believe she’s got more on the way.

Actual returns to Lots of Practice with a footwork inspired track that’s a powerful product of his growing musical ingenuity. Right from the start, sounds surround you, strapping you in for the skillfully tuned breaks and robust percussive build in its design. 

Actual’s ability to effortlessly elicit such strong emotions throughout the entirety of this piece leaves the listener wanting more; and that’s exactly what we’re hoping for from this rising star. 

Since the Ōtepoti/Dunedin Aotearoa/New Zealand producer first released with Lots of Practice, he’s managed to find himself on a coveted compilation from Juke Bounce Werk and his previously released EP, Teviot (with artist, cinamin) has been climbing all over the Beatport breaks charts. His tracks have been supported by Jyoty on Rinse FM, SiLVA on KCRW in Los Angeles, and he continues to impress us and those who get a chance to hear his progress. 

Actual is a name that you’re going to be hearing more and more of and we’re thrilled to be a part of his journey.

LOP GUEST MIX SERIES 024: JAMIE JAR (VINYL MIX)

The Maiden of the Matrix is the first track Kita and Maude Vôs have written together in 7 years. Prior to their solo projects they produced music together for a number of years as a duo. Rewinding even further back, “Kita and I met on a dance floor over 10 years ago and were instantly soul bonded. She was my first real collaborator and mentored me through the beginning of my production journey. She continues to inspire me to find my voice, dig into my well of experience and to ground into what feels aligned with my soul purpose”. Kita has lived in Bali for the last 5 years, as a sound healer at the Temples of Chi. “Although life has pulled us sonically and physically in different directions, this song reflects our continued connection over the past decade”. The Maiden of the Matrix more specifically delves into unity through community especially in the chaos of the world. During these times we must continue to open our hearts, and show up meaningfully; this will be the remedy, the anchor and the expander.

Shimmering with metallic warmth, fluid melodies, and dark tension, Maude Vôs’ productions and live performances are marked by an infectious energy and multifaceted enthusiasm for creating and connecting. Channeling the organic flow of a studio wired with a panoply of hardware gear, the Los Angeles-based artist has cultivated a growing catalog of distinctive releases and remixes alongside their professional work as a sound designer and composer. From London to LA, @laalls has always had a taste for the dancefloor. Fully immersing herself in both cities, the underground music scenes have shaped her as a person, whether it's the inspiring friends she made along the way, the clubs and festivals she experienced or the new sounds she was exposed to, LAALLS has always had a deep passion to drive the culture forward. An admirer of the art of DJing and an ear to the ground, it wasn’t until LAALLS moved to LA in 2019 that she got to grips with the craft and found another way to share music on a bigger scale. You feel that? That’s Ed Hoffman and Barbara conjuring a quake to make your booty shake! Their track Queen B is a high octane, powerful celebration of booty shaking self-love and expression. Backed with Ed’s acid hits and enticing vocalization from Barbara, this combo packs the kind of heat that could make the sun blush.

Firing on all cylinders, this collaboration’s creation came from the silly, playful, anything goes environment that their studio session brought forth. Built on the sassy riffing and fun-loving energy in the room and bolstered by blistering kicks and drums, Queen B makes its strong statement for driving electro royalty.

Boston born Barbara is the epitome of modern talent. She’s not only a house DJ but also a pop singer-songwriter and producer. She possesses 3 superpowers: knowing a good beat, crafting super catchy pop hooks, and spreading joy with her music & positive personality. After years spinning at clubs (Black Flamingo, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, 1015 Folsom) and parties (Daybreaker, Google I/O, Burning Man) she created her first album, Palm Dreams, over 2 intense weeks in the fall of 2022, putting hundreds of voice memos, laptop productions, and many nights of raving to good use. If you’ve seen Barbara live, she’s all gas and no brakes. She’s a bonafide one to watch for 2024.

While diverse in his repertoire, Ed’s sound is grounded in his ability to bring his distinct flavor of energy to each track he writes, harnessing unmistakable childlike energy that evokes equal parts self-confidence and silliness. It’s that liberating feeling you get when you’ve released yourself from the shackles of expectations, and being able to express your true, inner colors without fear of judgment. He also runs a monthly radio show, which is syndicated on Data Transmission, called ‘House of Ed’.

Pulling up on the b-side is Onyx Era, Maude’s first go at a DNB tune. “DNB was my portal into electronic music. It was the first genre I found movement with on the dance floor. I wanted to make a tune that showcases depth and grounding juxtaposed hype, energy and activation that makes one dance”. Onyx Era is a dubby liquid tune with “jump up” style interludes that drop us into our solar plexus while simultaneously carrying us cerebrally.

D. Tyrone is a queer producer based in Naarm/Melbourne. First and foremost, Dirk plays and makes music that is purpose-built to move queer bodies and to fill horny and/or moody clubs. After growing their love of dance music, DJing and throwing parties in Tāmaki Makaurau/Auckland, Dirk has developed an eclectic approach to spinning garage, breaks, and house tunes in their sets 🎧🎲

Qemist flows through the ever-changing DJ realm with ease and has been met with outstanding reviews from music publication giants like Apple Music, Resident Advisor, and The Fader for his heady club mixes with melodic, lounge-style productions cementing the hype and skill surrounding this bright one to watch.
