We are very exited to present you the new release on our label: Boorane – “Thru Jazz to Mars” EP!
Although it's the very first EP of the project, these guys can hardly be called newcomers.  Boorane members already have the “street” credibility and style with the strong roots and skills in b-boying and djing, dating back to early 2000s, and can easily teach us a thing or two about the art of digging, beats programming, real swing and texture.  With previous releases on King Underground Records, Boora is recognized as  “the father of Russian beat scene”, no less. Together with his good friend and longtime collaborator on all fronts Krane, they came up with this many-sided work of beauty and depth. Soulful hip-hop beats meet heavily swung house, sophisticated techno and a nice slice of timeless electro, all based on obscure soviet samples, excerpts from long-forgotten scientific and documentary movies, chopped drum breaks and complex groove programming – created with the classic hip-hop set of tools: Akai MPC 3000 and E-Mu SP-1200. 
    On the metaphorical side of things “Boorane” is the clear reference to “Buran” - the legendary Soviet space program and the eponymous space shuttle! Beyond the mere name – the EP is loaded with sounds, related to the space exploration, including the shuttle engine start at the very beginning of this special music journey, leading us to straight into space with a reassuring hip-hop beat. 
    Boorane’s music has the capacity to work on so many levels. Being down to earth and clearly physical on the one hand, with the heavy grainy beats and gritty textures that are ready to shake the dance-floors, their music has an unmistakable timeless touch, yielding high aspirations and thoughts about space and time. The vivid example is “Find The Way” - a collaboration with the label boss Lay-Far – a real pacifist manifesto with its reassuring thoughts about the future of the world – “Love has got to find the way” and “step by step” are the phrases effectively repeated as mantras throughout the track, making us believe the prospect is just inevitable! Being influenced by the wide range of musicians, like Theo Parrish, Atjazz, Miles Davis, James Brown, Pete Rock, Dj Premier and notably Soviet jazz scene i.e. Mustafa Zade, Georgiy Garaniyan or Aleksey Kucenko, Boora and Krane find the way to make their deeply-rooted music instantly catchy and likeable, at the same time bringing something unique and refreshing to the scene. Brooklyn based label, Razor-N-Tape, has been pumping out delicious selections of contemporary house music since 2012. They’re back to tease our end of summertime sadness with one last block party banger. However, this time around they have relied on beats from across the pond – London-based producer Alistair Gibbs, better known as Nebraska, to be exact. Like many of our favorite house artists, Nebraska comes from the golden age of sample-based hip hop, making him well-suited for utilizing soulful excerpts in developing his funk-filled discography. The latest addition in his long list of tracks that stretch back to the early 90s is an original titled Usin’ Me, which features remixes from the likes of Lovebirds, The Revenge, and someone who we are lucky to feature below.

Harlem native, DJ Nature hops on a remix of Nebraska’s “Usin’ Me” to remind us that summer’s never over. Traveling through a smoldering baseline, DJ Nature goes deep into the jungle. His slowed down percussion-rich rework vibrates. Chimes, shimmering snares, and rattling hats gleam through the heavy atmosphere of the track. Shakers become rattling snakes and the borrowed squelches start to sound like bird calls over this airy bongo groove. Whether you're in the forest or on your walk to the train, DJ Nature is sure to ease you gently into the approaching chill.

@hugomarimusic is a name that should be new to your ears, but is not one to forget. Today we present a single from Hugo Mari’s debut record, which is to be released on the mighty @heistrecordings on 3rd December 2018. The five-track EP has three originals from the main man Hugo and two remixes on the B-side by none other than NDATL label head Kai Alcé. Previously Hugo had a string of releases as ‘Books’ on a variety of underground labels, including XVI, OMENA and his own label High Praise.  Much to our satisfaction, despite the name change Hugo is still making groovy soulful house jams. The whole EP is first class, and sits right at home on Detroit Swindles Heist Recordings. The track we have the pleasure of presenting is titled ‘Feel Ur Senses’.

The aptly titled B1, which has a repeated vocal chanting the mantra that is the title, is an emotive track that indeed tickles all the right senses. The drawn out chords have an almost sensual appeal which, when paired with the understated bassline, give you a warm and fuzzy feeling. The track continues to evolve with various elements being introduced throughout, such as different types of percussion and a rising lead synth that pairs perfectly with the established motif. Overall it is an expertly arranged piece and a big standout in the EP and as a debut for Hugo's new alias.

North London based Hugo is a busy man, between his time in the studio he’s promoting a night and running a label. Luckily he had some time to answer some questions about his release, production method and his future plans.

PREMIERE: Hugo Mari - Can You Feel Your Senses

From Far Out Recordings’ in-house producer, Daniel Maunick’s debut solo album Macumba Quebrada conjures scenes of collective hedonism from start to finish. Spanning Afro-Brazilian spiritual dance ceremonies, late-eighties Detroit techno parties and jungle and broken beat raves in nineties London, Maunick celebrates our instinctive, age-old desire to come together and lose our sense of self.

Daniel Maunick practically grew up behind the mixing desk. As the son of Brit-funk legend Jean-Paul ‘Bluey’ Maunick (of Incognito fame), he found himself immersed in music from an early age, and quickly became involved in London’s drum n’ bass, acid-jazz, house, broken beat and soul scenes, releasing his first production at the age of sixteen on Gilles Peterson and Norman Jay’s Talkin’ Loud label. Since then, he has produced albums by the likes of Azymuth, Marcos Valle, Terry Callier, Incognito, Ivan ‘Mamao’ Conti and Sabrina Malheiros.

Reflecting his dual residence between Rio de Janeiro and East London, Macumba Quebrada features deep house stompers and broken bangers littered with Brazilian rhythms - in the form of both dusty percussion and Maunick’s intricate drum programming. But the album sees Daniel draw inspiration from across the black music continuum, and the rich histories of communal celebration in Detroit techno, Chicago house, London D’n’B and New York disco. Bringing all this together in explosive peak-time club tracks, moments of eerie ambience, South American swing and tribal earthiness, Macumba Quebrada expands on Maunick’s recent vinyl-only EPs ‘A Vicious Circle’ and ‘Sombra Do Dragao’, with a 13-track double LP and 14-track CD and digital release.

Taking its title from a syncretism of South American spiritual practices, the cover art is photograph taken by acclaimed French photographer and self-taught ethnographer Pierre Verger, who travelled the world documenting civilizations that would soon be effaced by progress. Settling for good in Salvador, Brazil, Verger became initiated into the Candomblé religion, eventually officiating rituals and ceremonies within the community. Without having become an ordained priest, Daniel Maunick shares both Verger and Far Out Recordings’ love for Brazil: its people, its culture and its music. 

Macumba Quebrada will be available on 2XLP, CD and digital, from 25th October 2019 via Far Out Recordings.
