Київський лейбл @mystictrax — гість другого епізоду нашого нового проєкту Label Sound Series. У цій серії ми просимо засновників і кураторів українських лейблів записати для нас мікс виключно з музики, що видавалася чи вийде на їхніх імпринтах. Таким чином ми прагнемо презентувати різноманітність селекції і звучання локальної сцени.

Тож у другому епізоді @lostlojic, засновник Mystictrax, презентує справжній ексклюзив — треки з цьогорічного каталогу лейблу: як уже видані, так і ті, що звучать вперше.

«Це те, що має сенс тепер. Це музика з вірою в майбутнє, це надія і складність, натхнення і танці від митців, яких я просто не маю права не зіграти вам», — каже Lostlojic.

Так у міксі звучать майбутні релізи: вініл з реміксами від Travis or Alice, постелектроніка з вокалом від Sumbur, ексцентричний брейкбіт від Mootney, електро від Radiant Futur і Ryndin, а також експериментальні треки Revshark & Hatroneli. "This little mix is a documentation of a magical summer in my house. I've had friends stay over during an intense long heatwave, and these tracks have been sketched out while hanging out drinking aperol spritzes and chilled wine, and after my friends have gone to sleep. It's a combination of sketches, short jams, almost finished tracks and repurposed bits. 
For those wondering who I am, I am a guy operating, quite comfortably, from the shadowy underbelly of the european experimental techno scene since the early 2000s. I was talked into releasing an EP on 030303 Records in 2014. Since then I've put out more stuff on Analogical Force, Love Love Recs, U.T.T.E.R., Furthur Electronix. 

I’ve gotten reports that both Autechre and Aphex Twin have DJ:ed my tracks, which is perhaps my biggest (second hand) achievement so far, since they are known for quite different styles of music.

Big thanks to Giovanna Elia for inviting me, and to anyone listening, buying my records and/or playing them out."

Lowfish - Reel Electronics Vol. 24

"Glass and Spiders" is from my 2002 album "Eliminator" released on Suction Records in 2000. This track was basically a jam recorded with a jupiter-6, 808, arp odyssey and roland s-750 sampler sequenced by Cubase on a mac clone.

One of the best Lowfish tracks no one has heard? Dunno but I love this track. Sappy Jupiter-4 melodies meet all my dusty drum machines.

"Hello Tinnitus / A Little Thing Gets By" is a new 7" single from Canadian electro mainstay Lowfish, a preview of his forthcoming "Hypersensitivity" full-length. Lowfish is Gregory De Rocher, and this is suction023. 

Barring last year's "Memories..." album, a compilation of vintage archive recordings, this double-A-side 7" is actually the first new Lowfish release since 2008. While his last 2 albums could best be described as serene and clinical, electro at it's most austere, Lowfish's return to Suction Records, the label he co-runs with Solvent, also marks a return to a more melancholic electropop sound. This is not new territory for De Rocher, but it's been a while since we've heard this kind of direct, fragile emotion from Lowfish. In fact, with their slow, head-knodding 808 beats and wistful synthesizer melodies, these songs could best be described as electro-ballads. 

"A Little Thing Gets By" is almost cute, until the strings fade in - pure heartbreak. "Hello Tinnitus" meanwhile, is the most pure slice of synthpop that Lowfish has delivered since 2002's "Theme to Parked Cars", a firm Lowfish fave for many. While Kraftwerk remains the pivotal electro music reference, only a few electro artists can rival the masters' keen sense of melody and emotional depth — Lowfish is one of those rare electro artists, and this 7" makes that case clear.
