More Time Records was easily one of 2017’s most exciting new labels, treating us to music from the likes of Zed Bias, Mina, Bryte, Cardinal Sound and label co-founders Ahadadream and SNØW. Keeping their hot streak firmly in the red, the next release on More Time is a debut for London-based Trinidadian producer/vocalist Blasé Vanguard. His exciting AA-side has already been receiving heavy support from Toddla T, Benji B and Swing Ting, so you just know it’s gonna be good.

We’re premiering ‘Dahlin’’ - a heady concoction of soca and UK funky but married with the heads-down, rain-stricken introspection of early dubstep. Accordingly, the latter part of the track features Vanguard’s own vocals hanging mournfully in the background. The whole thing bubbles with tension but never quite spills over, showcasing a strange hybrid sound which is low-key but undeniably effective. Keep an eye out for Blasé Vanguard this year.

Sawt Al Mashreq combines a debke rhythm from Palestina/Lebanon with a trap estetic to create a mysterious and bewitching oriental banger. A Bewitching spell is being cast.

Thamghalt means woman in tamazight, one of the most spoken Amazigh languages in North Africa.
Built on the basis of an amazigh lullaby, this music is a tribute to women, to Amazigh femininity.
The image of this sound is an Amazigh woman from Algeria photographed by the orientalist Rudolf Lehnert, a photo that covers Lehnert & Landrock’s famous book 'Orient 1904 – 1930'.
The photographer’s approach remains very questionable in fact, in a colonial context, he contributed to the imaginary of an 'oriental fantasy'. One can also criticize the exploitation of the image of models for commercial, political and identity purposes.

Thamghalt signifie femme en tamazight, une des langues Amazigh les plus parlé en Afrique du Nord.
Construit sur la base d'une berceuse Amazigh, cette musique est un hommage aux femmes, à la féminité Amazigh. 
L'image de ce son est une femme Amazigh d'Algérie photographié par l'orientaliste Rudolf Lehnert, photo qui fait d’ailleurs la couverture du célèbre ouvrage ''Orient 1904 – 1930'' de Lehnert & Landrock. 
La démarche du photographe reste tout de même très contestable en fait, dans un contexte colonial, il a contribué à l'imaginaire d'un ''fantasme oriental''. On peut aussi critiquer l'exploitation de l'image des modèles à des fins commerciales, politiques et identitaires.

My first drum was a blue empty water basin that was nearly as big as me. Til this very day I don’t know how I ended up with it at 4 years old but it was destined to be banged on for hours in the bathroom as my mums goes sick at me from the outside. No matter how much noise I made after a while she still let me play. I joined the Bermuda Gombeys around the same time which taught me sonic language, soundscapes, pace/tempo and distinct rhythms native to its homeland. 500 year old dance moves and performance fighting between each Gombey, 7person drum orchestras, high pitched whistles, polyrhythmic riffs and intoxicating claps of rims and sticks. 

'Gombey' comes from an African word meaning 'rhythm. The infectious beat is provided by various percussion instruments, including a snare drum and goatskin bass drum which creates a unique type of percussive singing. On the first track Drum Core the loose and high sounds of a fife adds unexpected melodies as the hard hitting note flurries around you. Aye Gombey! provides a sonic escape to Bermuda's dancehall and reggae culture - chopped and slowed tempos using ship horns, snares and ethnic drums fused with whips and whistles of Gombey Dancing. Enchufada's Rastronaut flips Drum Core with a percussive head-bopping energy layering his unique imprint from the underbelly of Lisboa's electrifying music scene.
